The bathroom was decrepit and filthy; the worst I've ever had the misfortune to use in many years of travelling. As other reviewers have noted the Western-style toilet was so low you might as well have been squatting. Our porch was too broken to use; every time we stepped on one of the slats we risked falling through. The staff were incredibly rude, especially the young woman (the owner's daughter?). And last but not least I am 95% sure we had bed bugs in our room. I had terrible bites that came up just after we left; I'll try and attach a photo later.

We tried to find alternative accommodation whilst there but as it was high season almost every room was occupied. The few rooms we did find were 4-5x more expensive than ours (40MYR) and whilst they had AC and hot water showers the accommodation wasn't of much higher standard and they weren't much cleaner either. There seems to be a real issue with accommodation (and local staff) in Salang; I certainly won't be going again.

We spent three nights at this "resort" in AUG 2012. Our initial reaction was a chock: horrible room with a small bed and dirty bedsheets. The bathroom was nothing you ever seen: the shower was in the middle of the toilet and the sink so when you took a shower (cold water) the whole floor would be covered with water. Not very nice and comfy to walk around in. The walls in the bathroom is half covered in wooden panels and after 20 years you can imagine what water and moist have done to this material. Exactly, its smelly, half rotten and full of mildew. The toilet is placed so low you actually think your sitting on the floor. And our toilet didnt even work when we came, so the manager had to do some McGyver-[--] to make it flush. The Aircon was so loud during the nights that we had trouble to get any sleep at all. And to even call it a "Resort" is beyond our understanding. Its as far from a resort you can ever get. The only positive thing is the view actually. We stayed in cabin number 1 and had a very nice beach/sea-view. Approx 10 meters fron the beach. All together we rate this as a low-budget hostel kind of stay thats is very bad maintained, and the manager himself said that NOTHING had been renovated or renewed there since it was buildt some 20 years ago. So if youre going to Tioman DO NOT consider this place at all. Its actually better to sleep directly on the beach.

I just returned from my second trip to Tioman 2 weeks ago. I did see the reviews here before going and contacted one of the reviewers about the place. Thus, i didn't have very high expectations of the place.

Compared to Paya Beach resort, the rooms are more rundown, and there are is no heater or wifi in the rooms. You have to pay for wifi at the reception if you need it. Alternatively, you can just walk further down to the reception of the next inn (next to the duty free liquor store) for a wifi password that you can use throughout your trip.

Walls in the room were peeling, there were gaps in the wood. Beds are soft, pillows hard. But overall, it was still kept clean and the lock on the door worked. The walls are extremely porous - there was a large family with 5 kids living next door and it was a nightmare every morning and night because we could hear every single scream, shout, cry clearly. When the children jumped on the beds (which was a daily thing for them) we could feel our beds shaking on our side.

Food wise, it's a notch better than Paya Beach Resort's. It's chinese style and the dishes vary from day to day. Standards too. But some of the dishes are not too bad and it's always enough or more than enough to fill you up.

Overall, if you don't mind living in a place that is a little rundown and just use it as a resting place at night, it's not too bad. You might want to pay just a little more (10%?) for a better place though.

The staff was very unpleasant, the room very basic, the location was good even though you can't swim on the beach directly facing the hotel because of corals. We didn't try the restaurant because it looked very unattractive. I wouldn't recommend it.

Room Tip: They are all simple bungalows. The main difference is with or without aircon...

Came prepared for a very humble resort but was still shocked by our room upon checking in. It smelled really bad though the muskiness cleared out once we filled the room with smoke from burning a mosquito coil (they had jungle mosquito flying around the room!) and got the air circulation moving by turning on the aircon which actually looked like it was newly installed (an unexpected pleasant surprise). The bathroom smelled pretty bad too and looked like it was built in the 80s, with a tiny sink that was half broken and only cold water for showers (which was of bearable temperature during the day but freezing cold in the early morning and late at night).

The sheets had a couple of small stains as well so bring a sarong to spread over the sheets if you can't imagine sleeping on stained sheets. It would probably be a good idea to bring your own blanket if it's possible to as well. I definitely didn't trust their blankets to be very clean and had to make a conscious effort to keep the blanket as far away from my face as I possibly could throughout my stay. There was also a piece of gum stuck to the wall right above our bed which was most disgusting to say the least. I had to constantly remind myself to keep my head away from the wall. The mattress offered no back support at all as you can imagine. If you love soft mattresses, you would probably be happy with the mattresses here though.

Our neighboring room was occupied by a group of china nationals who were really noisy as well (the walls are really thin) and when they walked/jumped around, we had to live with our entire room vibrating crazily away.

Keep away from the fabric deck chairs at the patios of the huts too. There are many cats prowling the island which get into regular fights that like to sleep on these chairs. We saw an injured cat with open wounds that were leaking pus sleeping on one of the deck chairs outside our room on our first night. Thankfully we saw that or we might have sat on the deck chairs without realizing the stuff that goes onto the fabric of those chairs!

The food was barely edible at the resort as well. The prawns weren't fresh and the fish was so hard and dry, it actually tasted like chicken breast. You would eat it if you were very hungry and if it's included in the resort package but you would probably feel really unsatisfied after. Thankfully there are several shops within walking distance from the resort that sell a good variety of snacks, drinks and ice cream, which kept us happy enough throughout our trip.

Given the price of the resort/dive package we paid, it wasn't the worse we could have gotten but considering how used we are to modern, clean rooms and good food, it was still quite an experience for us.

If you have no choice but to come to this resort, come expecting the worst so you don't get too much of a shock upon checking in!

Pulau tioman is bit more expensive so do book kn advance if you want to get into something better and dont go there at the weekends. This accommodation was very poor, staff not helpfull, didnt care, the room dirty and you can hear everything from the second half of the cottage. We had a family room. 140 rm and the bathroom was just horrible, there is rubbish outside, its not clean at all and had party guys staying next door and eventho they tried to keep the noise down we heard everysibgle word/step/phone/music. It wasnt nice experience, the beds are ok, aircon too

Took the 4D3N package with air con room and it was worth it. At RM400 per person which includes ferry transfer (mersing-Tioman-mersing), 3b/f,2 lunch, 3dinner and snorkel trip.

Nice place to go to since I've always been there during my childhood days and finally after 15 years, I've managed to return back the same childhood place and glad that I was there.

The owner was nice and all and of course the most important was the room which was ok since I've had worse b4. Overall experience was good. If only the people there was nicer, then the customer service would've have been better (a few cases where we asked for something and they were a little reluctent to do it or started grumbling). But I understand their position too.
