There are two ways to get to Tioman Island. Use the ferry from Mersing on the mainland or take the flight with Berjaya Air from Subang Airport in KL. We did the latter. A word of warning, the luggage allowance is a stingy 10kg per person and they WILL charge for excess. We had two cases and two golf bags and paid RM300 extra. Seems a lot but as the club hire on Tioman is RM100 per set we think we did OK. Arrival is a simple affair but can be slightly long winded as everyone arrives at the same time. They do fully man the decks though so it moves along at a fair pace. We booked a garden view chalet but were allocated one right on the beachfront. How bad is that? The chalets are very spacious and comfortable, aircon worked fine, bathroom was great and the bed was excellent. The breakfast buffet was first class. The evening event was also fine but if you are a vegetarian the choice is somewhat limited. There is stacks of stuff to do here. Scuba, snorkelling, glass bottom boat, jungle trekking, tennis and golf to name a few. The golf course, while not of world class standard is easily the most beautiful we have played on five continents. At about £25 including a buggy it is ridiculously good value for money. And you WILL need a buggy, especially for the second nine. The pool area is great and it has a swim up bar if you so require :-) There is free internet access at the resort but it is only available in the reception and poolside areas. The staff here are amongst the friendliest and most helpful that we have encountered, the only one missing was dear old Uncle John who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. Would we recommend Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort? You betcha!

Our stay at Berjaya Tioman Resort (six days) was extraordinary experience. Resort staff is very kind and helpful. When they found out that we are on the honeymoon, they sent us a congratulations cake. Food in the restaurant is excellent but little bit expensive. However, you can always have a good meal in a small Malaysian restaurant outside the resort on the right. The landscape and nature in and around the resort is fantastic, especially Renngy island. Beach and water are beautiful and clean. We strongly reccommend water activities such as snorking and fishing. Our bungalow was at the beach front with perfect view, and we enjoyed it very much. You get a perfect holiday for that price.

Just returned from Tioman Island and stayed at the Berjaya Tioman Resort.

I have read many mixed reviews here and agree with many, however if you are looking for a fabulous location and are not looking to spend the day inside in luxury, then Berjaya is great. While the resort is looking a bit weary it is perfect for a family get away with kids. Our daughters are 12 and 11 and they loved the freedom of swimming in the sea and in the many pools.
The water in the sea is so warm and clear that you can snorkel off the beach for fun. We took a day trip to various sites to snorkel first to get used to the place and this proved to be a great way to get into the fun of snorkeling.
Take the trip to the other side of the island by renting a 4x4 Taxi and driver as the other side of the island is quite different. Nice little eating place at the Jetty.

If you can, book the deluxe Beach Front units are they really are spacious for spending multiple days at the resort.

The food in the Resort dining area is typical of a resort and not that great, but there are other options which are reasonably priced.

The village of Tekek is the third stop on the island where we boarded the transport to the Berjaya Resort. It didn’t take long to realise that the Berjaya was a big mistake.

It’s a like a holiday camp. Our accommodation was one of a block of four dark brown, wood-panelled dingy rooms (unlike the boutique-style photos on the website) that was one of a number of similarly painted depressing blocks. We returned to the reception to speak to the ladies in colourful pyjamas. A manager in a suit offered a room in the (dark brown) Golf Clubhouse for an extra 700RM. We were too tired to find another location, so we took the room with its two TVs, two fridges, five boxes of tissues and eight towels. At least it was well away from the main resort.

For berjaya tioman resort is a great place for R&R. It was my first time going over to enjoy and the environment was great. It was a nice n pleasant place for couple and family. The service was good and they served us with great smile. The food was average as they have different kind of foods like thai, indian chinese and western. The best place I think was the snorlking and other water activities over there. I'll be back there again.

The stay was wonderful. The beach was beautiful n we had our own space on the beach. The snorkelling was great. The rooms were clean but old. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly, especially the resort manager mr pravir, who was very helpful.

on arrival at berjaya our room was not ready, which was not very good seeing that it was after 2pm, had to wait at reception for an hour, but when we got to our room we were very pleased with it. very spacious, good t.v. nice comfortable big bed, with view of the sea.
There are 2 pools, which mainly attract the children, but the sea is so wonderful and warm we didnt even use the pool area. Our breakfast was included in the price and there was a good selection of everything, you would have to be very picky not to find something that you liked.
we stayed for 6 nights, played golf , went for lovely walks to turtle sanctuary, snorkled, and played tennis, and just chilled on the beach, it was very relaxing break.
We only ate in the restaurant once, because we found the small restaurant outside the gates of the complex, ( the one on the right as you go out gate) dont be put off by the plastic chairs and tables, it serves great food and is really cheap, they let you take your own beer because they dont sell it ( either get a case of tiger at duty free when you get off plane and keep in fridge in room , or buy from other restaurant across the road)

Room Tip: book deluxe double with seaview, eat at restaurant outside gates
