we were so looking forward to staying on the Island of Tioman as we heard so much about it but it was a little disappointed for us yes the room was lovely we went for deluxe seaveiw it was large and lots off room but sadly it is in a block off 4 and if you have other guest that or noisey its not good.food was good as was breakfast but it limited to eat else were unless you went to village. beach was ok but lots off sand flys which we did not know about till we get to resort.I have had better snorkling the best was at reggis island you can book at dive centre 30mry per person and they are so helpful
watch out for the monkeys and dont be silly and fed them lots off wild life to see was relazing hoilday but resort needs a wee face lift.Have been would not return

Room Tip: I would go for the deluxe seaview full seaview not sideseaview ones good garden ones pretty but no...

Dear Valued Guest.

We thank you for your recent stay with us and for taking the time to review our hotel.

We are glad to hear that you have enjoyed your snorkeling session at Renggis. As a precaution for guests with sensitive skin, we have started to put insect repellant at a few locations on the beach for guest use.

We thank you for the feedback and hope you will provide us with another opportunity to welcome you back with a more positive experience.

Sincerely

Michael Tan

We stayed at the Berjaya for two days ..the hotel huge with the convenience of a buggy from the airport to the hotel, to and fro. Superior room with amazing view, just a few steps from the beach.
Indian restaurant "Tamarind" at the center of the hotel however very tasty food(bit pricey though) .
Met Mr Pravir Mishra Asst. manager very friendly and helpful. In total it was a good experience.

My boyfriend and I have been backpacking around south east Asia for 2 months, and my godmother booked us 5 nights in the Berjaya Tioman as a present, so we could end our trip in a bit of luxury!
We were obviously very excited after looking at the website, as it sells itself as a 4* star resort and the photo of the superior room looked lovely. We had been staying in budget guesthouses throughout our 2 month trip so looked forward to the more upmarket accommodation and service.
We were collected from the airport by the resorts pick up service and immediately noticed the lack of a friendly greeting and offers of help with luggage that we have experienced at all basic hostels across south east Asia. Arrival at reception was not any better, the pick up service dropped us all rather unceremoniously at reception with no indication of where to check in. We headed to the desk with 'cashier' written above it and waited to be acknowledged. The lady who checked us in barely spoke to us aside from asking for passports and an upfront payment. The very least I had expected was a 'welcome to Tioman' and was quite surprised by the cold check in. We were given a bunch of coupons (pretty naff for a 4* resort) for the prepaid breakfasts. Upon later inspection of these coupons I also found a coupon for a 'welcome drink'. This would have been nice if it had been pointed out to us on arrival as unfortunately we weren't aware of it until it was too late to use it.
We then had to wait ten minutes to be driven to our room, and again no help with luggage was offered.
It was when we were dropped off at our room that we really felt the disappointment kick in. It was in a nice location near the beach, although bizarrely there was lots of advertisements and flags for some sort of watch company covering the wooden buildings, which seemed really distasteful and out of place.
The superior room we had been booked into really felt like a grotty motel room. Including taxes and breakfast the room cost came to over £100 a night and for that amount of money you expect a hell of a lot more. The lampshades were dirty and burnt, the ceiling looked filthy, light fittings were coming away from the walls, the bathroom was just a small wet room that looked like it had been tiled in the 1960s, with weird waxy stains on the mirrors. There were big red ants crawling around the bathroom door frame and on the vanity desk. Aside from the dusty fan everything was pretty clean but that was the rooms only saving grace. I was very surprised there was no wifi in the rooms as even staying in budget accommodation in remote places that seemed to come as standard. Furthermore the walls are paper thin, when someone is walking around upstairs it sounds like a herd of elephants and when our next door neighbour had a cigarette, our room also smelt of smoke.
I was quite upset, mainly because it had been given to us a gift, and I felt terrible that my godmother had spent her money on this place in a bid to spoil us, and we had stayed in nicer places with friendlier staff for less than a fifth of the price.
We went to reception to complain, and the manager said if we wanted to leave they could refund the money. However we could not find anywhere else to go. It was quite hard to get hold of other places by phone or email, and the ones we could get hold of had no availability. Furthermore the receptionist tried to charge us to make these phone calls but we refused.
We stayed for the 5 days and enjoyed the beautiful beach and fantastic snorkelling.
The pool area is also very nice, although we found the staff a bit surly (when I went to get a towel the man in the towel cabana was having a cigarette in the cabana which is fine if your in a casual environment, but again, a bit wierd for a 4* resort). We had cocktails at the bar in the pool, but it was a bit gross to see the hundreds of dead flies lining the bar area. Looked like it needed a good clean, and made me worry what was in my cocktail!
We ate in the restaurant a couple of nights but the food was very standard and a bit overpriced so we ventured out to the wonderful 'Delimas' (I think that's the right spelling) which is just outside the resort gates, and has fresh fish every night which tasted incredible!
We have stayed at many different budget guesthouses across the course of our trip, and although lacking a big pool, they out trumped the berjaya Tioman in every way because of value for money and quality of staff.
This resort is in a fantastic location and if the rooms were revamped and the staff properly trained to
give a good level of customer
service, it would be a decent place
to stay. The only staff who were friendly and helpful were the ones who manned the beach bar at night, and there was one lady at reception who was a great help when I asked to borrow a microphone and webcam in order to have a Skype conversation.
Overall I think if you came to the berjaya Tioman with low expectations and feeling like it was quite a cheap deal then you would not mind the negatives I mentioned, but as we had been travelling for a while and knew what you could get for your money in Asia we were very disappointed.

To get here is already a hassle. Very disorganized, crowded jetty with bloodsucking ferry operator. Slightly compensated when we arrived at the hotel looking at the beachfront Malay-styled resort from the outside. But inside, superior room hasn't changed the last time we came here 10 years ago (except for LCD TV with poor reception).
Okay, people don't spend much time in the room & I get it. Don't tell me we have to sleep on sloppy mattress with ants creeping inside the room. Maybe in-room wifi would be a good addition in future.
Breakfast was so so. For lunch or dinner, there was a reasonable place to eat just outside the entrance. The beach as what I noticed has been left to rot. No initiative whatsoever to clean it up by resort workers. I think they should deal with fallen leaves & cigarette butts more often.
Going back to the jetty is another nightmare. Again you have to face a poorly disorganized, crowded jetty and the same bloodsucking ferry operator. Wondering what the authorities are doing?

Well when you arrive to Tioman and you take your first glimpse of the ocean, beach and the scenery your jaw drops. It was absolutely amazing. The location of the resort is fantastic - the beach is great with clear, calm water and plenty of sealife - great for snorkeling just off the beach.

The accommodation is good. We stayed in deluxe rooms right next to the beach. The room standard definitely suits a 4-star rating. The only downside is that the wall (or I should stay door) separating different units is quite thin so if you're unluky enough to have noisy neighbours - that might be a problem. However, it was fine for us.

The staff were great. I read some previous comments and therefore didn't have high expectations. Yes, some of them may have limited English skills, however they more than make up for it with their friendliness and willingness to help.

Restaurants. We had breakfast there every morning. It was buffet with a great selection which was updated every morning. For dinner you have a choice of a la carte menu (which we preferred - and this is reasonably priced) or buffet (which is more expensive). My compliments to the chief - both options were great. And of course there are 2 little restaurants just outside the main gate that offer great authentic food at cheap prices. Try Tom Yum at the Malay restaurant - the best I've ever tasted.

Swimming pools were great, looked clean and big enough. But why do you need a swimming pool when there is such a beautiful beach!!??

Diving centre. The instructors were very professional. Enjoyed diving with them just at Renggis Island. My wife did a Try Dive with them and we were both happy. The only thing is they might need to update their equipment especially BCD's = they look a bit ancient.

The flight to Tioman. Well, yes, the plane looks very old. To be honest I was very concerned when boarding. However, the flight went smooth and pilots seemed to know what they were doing. I did some research on the plane they are flying - Dash 7. Apparently it's one of the safest planes ever made. However, getting a couple of new planes may help passengers avoid undue stress and anxiety.

Overall, Tioman is a magic place that you need to visit at least once in your lifetime. We are definitely coming back though. I had previously travelled to places like Phuket and Bali. And I have to say neither of them stand even close to being so pristinely beautiful and relaxing as Tioman. If you're after busy night life - you won't get it here. I would stay at Berjaya again.

Room Tip: Deluxe is great. Make sure you don't have noisy neighbours.
