My partner and I took the 3D2N Basic Chalet package which included a snorkeling trip, 7 meals and return ferry transfer.
The ferry transfer system in Tioman is the most horrendous I have ever seen. I had to prompt the hotel manager several times before getting a confirmation. I was waiting at the ferry terminal for more than an hour for the hotel rep to arrive with our tickets. We were not told until we asked the day prior to arriving that our package does not include the 6.30am ferry and we had to pay an additional RM20 per person if we wanted to catch the morning ferry or wait till 9am. This should've been clear upfront when we book the package.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful owner, Hisham. The chalets were your typical wooden Malay village house. The chalet was clean on arrival but later in the night and the next day, we found ants on the floor. Also, although the windows were covered with mosquito nets we still got bitten. So, bring your insect repellent while you are here. Shower pressure was very low and the flush was not functioning properly.
At night we had BBQ dinner which was included as part of the package. That was really good. However, the next day, our lunch was not as hygienic.
Snorkeling trip lasted only 30 minutes, partly due to the bad weather and boat condition. We waited for our 7am ferry for 4 HOURS AND MISSED THE BUS. Again, I reiterate, BAD FERRY SERVICES IN TIOMAN. They could not cope with the rising demand on public holidays. Overall, it was a bad experience for me in Tioman. But if you are looking for a budget accommodation with helpful hotel managers, I'll recommend this place. If not, look elsewhere.
