“Nice Chalets and very close to (the best) beach in Tioman”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

I didn´t expect too much because it is a budget accomodation in Malaysia - don´t forget this. But it was a really nice 3 days stay there. Salang is the best beach in Tioman Island compared to other bays along the ferry trip. The rooms are really Ok. I mean you can not expect luxury in this price range, but it was clean for Malaysian standards. Of course there is sometimes a bad smell because of the sewage (we stayed in a garden chalet), but it was the same in Perhentian Islands and elsewhere on this island. It´s Asia...
It is very close to the beach where snorkling is really good. It depends on who is at the reception, but the woman was really friendly, the guy depending on his mood...
I would come back, as the garden is really well maintained and the site is great, but if you wanna have nice bayview, check in in the banana hill chalets (also belong to Salang Sayang)
Food is not very good in this Resort, but there are plenty of other places around where (sea)food is excellent.

We booked the rooms and paid for the booking fees 1 month prior from the date. About 2 weeks before that we did a follow up call and the staff said they are not operating on Hari Raya. Made arrangement to get our refund back and have to deal with the rude owner.
We manage to find another place to crash and found out that they operate as normal on Hari Raya but only attend Westerners (I have nothing against Westerners). This resort sucks big time!!

This resort is the last station that ferry stops there so you have stay on board from Mersing about 2 and half hours. You can see spectacular scenery and very calm and nice and clean coast, sandy beach with clear water and great snorkeling. But about the room if you expect clean and suitable condition you have to choose just honeymoon rooms. Other rooms are not too clean. Inside bed or mattress were too many insects that bit and hurt me so I was suffered for long time. However, there were hot water for showering and air conditioner inside rooms. I am satisfied about everything in resort except room conditions.

The resort is situated on the best part of the beach, has a good restaurant and friendly staff. We booked in advance via the net for a family room 2 adults and kids (4 & 6) and over the week went to visit the other resorts and concluded happily that this is the best that Salang has to offer.

Note that this is basic accommodation, rooms were cleaned, towels changed etc upon request.

Sandflies - be aware Tioman has sandflies and their bite is horrid, the itch lasts long term - on my wife it's 3 weeks and counting.

Booked a three bed room four months in advance. Reconfirmed booking with one month to go. Arrive (from the UK) to be told that our room had been given away and that Salang Sayang Resort was full.

I requested to speak to the manager, the man behind the desk replied that he was the manager. I asked if he could help us find another room in Salang. He told me to "Fu*k off." He then suggested that my younger sister could share his bed. A horrible, horrible man.

We ended up staying at Salang Pusaka Resort, where we were welcomed with open arms.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

BEWARE LEAKING TOILETS!!! Smells awful, not suitable neither for a family with kids nor for other people who don't enjoy taking shower standing in a [...] pool. Zaid was not able to organize a plumber for THREE DAYS. When we decided to move to another resort, he charged us more than the price we agreed before.
