A fantastic sea side holiday for the whole family. Read all the positive reviews on TripAdvisor and true enough on all the good things mentioned.
Beautiful Vicky welcomed us. Moderate rooms but sufficient. My 2 teenagers enjoy jumping off the pier in the evening with Daniel and Sophia (the owner's 2 kids age 7 & 9).
As we are there during Raya, we had the courtesy of eating the ketupat and beef rendang..yummy. The Sat seafood BBQ is excellent. Oh the lunch ala carte, just love the burger.
Drinks from mini bar is a bit pricey RM10 per can drink. Bring your own and store in the mini fridge provided in the rooms ;)
The waterfall is beautiful. So secluded that we had the whole fall to ourselves. A few private beaches along the way to the waterfall. We had the beach all to ourselves :).
The jungle trek is about 2 hours walk which we didn't make it. We turned back after stopping at the first private beach swim. :(
Staff are very friendly. Always serve with a smile. Before we finish our breakfast, our rooms were made up. Speedy service.
When we were returning to Mersing, we stopped at Genting to wait for ferry. There we shopped for some last minute duty free shopping and bought some duty free cigarettes from the local store there. We also enquired some people who stay at the beach chalet there. They are paying RM380/pax 3D/2N all incl. (ferry, lodging, meals and snorkeling trips) while we paying RM480/pax, which is all worth every cent of it. Firstly, we have the privacy of a secluded cove all to ourselves of about 25 persons only. We are served by 14 staff there. We don't need to go out by boat to snorkel. We just jump out of the pier anytime of the day. We got to swim with sharks and turtles. We can jump off the pier for fun. All these for just a hundred RM extra....Worth every single cent of it.
Rooms are with aircond and water heater. Shower gel is provided. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Coffee making facility provided with some coffee and tea packets.
We start missing Minang Cove the moment we were leaving it. For sure we recommend this to everybody who want to have a wonderful time and don't mind paying the little extra.

Extremely friendly staff at a quaint and relaxing location on a gorgeous cove on Tioman Island. The rooms are not first class, but for the price, they work very well. However, everything else about Minang Cove is fantastic for the perfect relaxing vacation.

Our nightmare began the morning after we arrived. My husband had food poisioning from their bbq the night before. None of the staff offered any help other than telling us there was a doctor who was a boat ride away but as it was a holiday, he was not on duty. None of the staff came to our villa to check if he was ok. The next morning my husband decided to come with me for breakfast to see if he could manage some toast. After we had finished I told him to wait until I came back as I had to take breakfast back to the villa for his mum( another diaster which I will explain next). When I went back to get my husband he had collapsed and four men were trying to carry him into the restaurant and lay him on the floor. Luckily for us there was a nurse who was on holiday there at the same time. I don't know what I would have done without her help. She was fantastic. The management only stood and watched.
Our other diaster was the fact that minang cove is totally unsitable for the elderly. We took my mother in law with us as she was visiting us for 8 weeks. We taught it would be lovely for her to see the Island. I checked before booking to make sure it was suitable and said that she could not walk very far. I was told that she would be fine and have no problems. Not the case. It was a total nightmare for her trying to get down to the villa and really scared her. The lighting is totally insufficent. There were no rails for her to hold on to and parts of it very narrow with a big drop. So I had to fetch her meal for her. This didn't make her feel very good. The day my husband collapsed we decided to leave and return home.
I have been emailing the owner with my complaints since returning to KL. He is not prepared to take any responsibility.

Don't be fooled by their website. The bathrooms are nothing like the real ones. They were not very clean and very basic considering how much they charge. There was no hot water in any of the bathrooms.

This was the worst holiday I have ever had and would never go back there again.

We stayed at Minang Cove for 2 weeks in May.

We took the Transnasional Coach from Singapore to Mersing, be aware that you have to carry all your baggage yourself through the Malaysian immegration point. The ferry from Mersing dropped us at Genting ready to be picked up by the Minang Cove boat.

We were met on arrival by Vicky and were just in time for tea and banana fritters. Following a comprehensive intro chat with Vicky we were shown to our room.

Hillside chalet in which we stayed ensured that we got plenty of exercise every day! From our verrandah we could watch the macaque monkeys playing. Other wildlife included flying squirrel, bats, giant squirrel and iguanas.
The room was fairly basic with but did have aircon, a fridge and a kettle as well as en suite facilities, it suited us very well.

Food was really good especially as so few guests were staying when we were there. Breakfast was fruit, juice, toast, choice of eggs, coffee/tea. Lunch (extra charge) was choice of asian dishes or burger/chicken and chips or a sandwich. Afternoon tea was tea/coffee with biscuits or fritters or donuts – different every day. Dinner was soup, then buffet and dessert, the seafood BBQ on Saturdays was excellent.
A chocolate birthday cake (with candles) was made for me which I thoroughly enjoyed with my champagne!

Happy hour was appreciated as were the vast array of cocktails! Thankyou Vicky.

Diving we enjoyed especially as we were the only boat at most locations. Lee, who ran the dive operation, was very professional as was Alex – the hotel manager. We dived from the boat most days but also did a few shore dives from the jetty. We saw turtles and sharks most dives. The highlight was the night dive from the jetty when we saw a baby leopard shark.

Snorkelling was good from the beach every day and we always saw at least one turtle as well as numerous fish and a few moray. We thought that the best snorkelling was to the left of the jetty. The resort are trying to encourage new coral growth by installing some frameworks in the sea.

Waterfall trek was very good, be aware you need plenty of drinking water. We walked both ways but you can arrange to be dropped off and or picked up from the nearby jetty. The dip in the waterfall pool was fantastic after the very hot humid trek. We were lucky enough to see a snake on the way.

The resort was very casual and the only time we wore shoes was the jungle trek.
Staff were all very friendly. Alex, Vicky and Lee were always happy to chat.

Totally relaxing place to chill out, don’t expect nightly entertainment or karaoke (thank goodness) TV or internet.

We stayed at Minang Cove for a week in August and cannot say enough good things about this relaxing resort. The staff is great-- from the maids to the manager, Alex. Vicky is also fantastic with helping out with things. and as a bartender and hostess, she can't be beat. We are all divers and Lee (dive master) took us out on several fantastic dives. Don't miss Jahat! Lee also did a very thorough refresher course for our daughters who had only recently received their dive licenses to make sure they were up to speed.
The accommodations are large and all appear to have great views of the ocean. We had a seaview villa and spent many evenings sitting on our patio relaxing with a glass of wine watching the sunset.
There is a happy hour every evening which offers a great opportunity to mingle with the other guests if you choose-- we met people from all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Meals are very tasty with plenty of food. They have a fabulous squash soup and a great fish BBQ every Saturday evening. A full breakfast every morning sets you up for the day. An afternoon tea is a welcome treat after swimming, snorkeling, diving or hiking.
If you like to snorkel, you won't be disappointed. There is plenty to see right off the resort dock. We saw beautiful fish, stingray, turtles, etc. The water is the clearest I have ever seen. Just beautiful!
With no internet, telephone, or tv, you have the type of vacation that allows you to totally relax.
It's a vacation we totally enjoyed and highly recommend.

We - family with two young girls aged 6 and 7 - stayed at Minang cove for 3 nights. In short, we experienced this resort, the service, the food and the whole setting as fantastic.

We arrived at Merseng the day before our departure with the jetty to Tioman. Merseng is not a place I would recommend anybody to stay. We wanted to be in time for the boat, but the next time I would plan it better to avoid spending the night in mersing.

But the service at the small office in Merseng was excellent. The lady helped us quickly on the boat, and after a pleasant trip we were dropped of in Tekek. Then transported to Minang cove in a very little boat, which was a bit bumpy but the kids loved it. We were welcomed by Vicky, and after a welcome drink and some explanation our room was ready. A standard (family) sea view room. It indead had a beautiful view and an airco! Not the most stylish room, but clean and spacy enough for us.

The restaurant/bar area is central close to the beach and the pier into the sea. This area is very nice, very stylish and comfortable. The food is more than excellent and they can mix very nice coctails.

We spend most of the time chilling at the beach, play with the kids in the sea. The pier is fun to jump off, and the snorkling in front of minang cove will keep you busy for hours. The trip to the snorkling island is also very good, for snorkling but also for diving. The dive operation of Mimang cove is ok. Modern equipment, but I think they don't go out very often. Max 1 dive a day?

We had a very relaxed time. With a limited number of guests (I guess max 25) it's a small operation and the food and service is very good. I was a bit disappointed about the willingness to help me to do more diving, but the snorkling is also very rewarding.
Our room was good... but with same modernisation could also be fantastic.

But I would do it again any minute, and has been the best place of our 3 weeks trip in Malaysia.

We had been travelling with my boyfriend around Malaysia for more than 3 weeks and after arriving from our round trip from KL, Taman Negara, Perhentian and Kapas islands, our last destination was Tioman, Minang Cove. Comparing the other islands, this was the wildest looking of all with the peaks and rainforest around. As we spent some time around in Malaysia, we had some experience to compare accommodations, service and prices.

Already the arrival was outstanding comparing the other places we stayed, as soon as we got off from the ferry from Mersing, Minang Cove crew was already waiting for us with a speedboat. As soon as we got off in Minang Cove, Alex, the manager (young, friendly and nice guy) welcomed us and two refreshing drinks were waiting for us on the table in the bar. He gave us a short introduction and basically we could start our rest.

We booked the simpliest room without sea view, but with air condition. It was up on the hill with a view to the peak, palm trees and a bit of the beach of the resort. Next to our chalet there were a bunch of monkies (we loved it) who were quarreling with us when approaching the jackfruit tree behind the chalet. It was fun! We also saw a big lazy lizzard that lives under the big stone behind the restaurant. You can see loads of them on the island, they are everywhere. There was a bat living under our chalet and we also met a few gekkos around, they come out around sunset and eat up the bugs on the balcony, We also saw two flying squirrels one day next to the beach :-)

The whole place is being run hand in hand with nature, so it is a bit of contrast to have a very clean (they daily clean the chalets and change towels) and comfortable room (massive, comfortable bed) with AC in the middle of paradise. If you like nature, this is definitely a place to stay. If you have the chance, choose room with AC, you will go mental of the humid, hot air with only a fan during the night. We tried that as well, it was no fun,

We went to jungle trekking the next day, easy to get around as you only need to follow the wires to the waterfall - in the middle there is a local village, it is worth seeing, but do not expect floatable plastic crocodiles in the souvenir shops, either heavy night life, if you are looking for parties and night out in Minang Cove, you will not find it. Then choose another location on the island. During the jungle trekking we saw three beaches, all of them were empty, so you can easily have your privacy if feeling getting away from the resort for a few hours or a day.

Guests were coming and going while we were there, mixed nationalities, mainly families with children or couples.

Food is extremely good, if you like spicy, go for the Tom Yam soup, one of the best I had eaten in Malaysia. Cocktails are also delicious, even pricing is a bit high considering Malaysian standards (still ok with European standards), but when we are on holiday, we rarely deal with these things as we want to enjoy ourselves.

There are diving, snorkling possiblities, also you can hire the speedboat to go to Tekek, where the airport is located and considered to be a big village, well, I would not recommend that as we went there and found it absolutely useless, but the boat trip itself was worth the money, Malaysian boat men are well experienced and they make sure that you are ok even if it gets bumpy. Tekek can be interesting if you are looking for very cheap booz as they have a few duty free shops and for a European, prices of even for the best quality brands are ridicilously cheap.

Overall I would recommend this resort to everybody, who would like to have a relaxed time, wants to get away from the everyday stress, as there is no connection with the outside world. No internet or phones.

I think you get value for your money, staff is highly professional/ friendly/ helpful (smiling at you all the time!), big advantage having an English manager, it makes communication easy, the rooms are clean and comfortable, beautiful nature all around.

Overall Malaysia is a beautiful country with hospitable locals. We did not have any extremely negative experiences during the 3.5 weeks we spent with travelling. We fell in love with Malaysia and planning to go back to see Borneo next year.
