ON the negative side -rooms are certainly basic - the air conditioner is barely adequate. Bathroom smells. There are no activities so if it rains be prepared to read. Unless you are in top physical condition, jungle trekking is out since the trail is steep and difficult. There is also no walking on the beach because it is too small. Certainly the place is no frills.
On the positive side - food was excellent and the snorkeling right off the beach was awesome. Another positive is the remoteness of the place. You won't be snorkeling with 50 other people.
Be sure and bring everything you need because you can't even buy sunscreen at the hotel. We thought the staff could have been more helpful but they certainly provide the basics. So ti just depends on what kind of place you want. I would recommend because of the snorkeling.

The reviews of these hotel were a mix of positive and negative impressions but honestly we can only say good things of this place.

The arrival is absolutely spectacular: the hotel is nestled in a very secluded bay with the jungle as a background and crystalline water.
Upon arrival the "famous" Vicky (she's a sort of general manager of the place) explains rules and services of the resort in a very pleasant way: and her drinks are as good (and as strong!) as everybody tells!!

Minang Cove doesn't advertise itself as a luxury resort and definitely isn't. It's rustic, comfortable and remote (no mobile phone - just a tiny little bit of singal at the end of the pier - no internet and no TV). It is a place where you go if you want to get away from it all and relax, not a place with resort standard facilities. It is a simple place on a remote little beach of a remote island, no Club Med! This means no signature toiletries, no room service and no marble bathroom so you should set expectations before you go. On the other side you get monkeys an squirrels walking right on your balcony and you wake up every morning to the sound of waves and birds.

The room (we had a sea view deluxe chalet) was spacious, bright and very simple, with a large balcony with comfy chairs facing the sea. We though the food was very good (we are Italian so we tend to be quite picky!) and the overall atmosphere totally relaxed and chilled out.

The beach is tiny but more than enough to accommodate all guest.
We both snorkeled and scuba dived. Snorkeling is absolutely amazing right fro mthe hotle beach and off the pier, no need to go anywhere else! Diving was also very nice and the young English divemaster very professional.
The trek to the waterfall is long and I have honestly seen better waterfalls but if you want to get away from the sea for a while you can give it a shot.

One small piece of advice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at set times and there's no food available outside meal times: bring snacks because there's none at the hotel and no close by shop (the resort is only accessible by boat).

Overall, we wish we could go back we spent three marvellous days!

My finace and I arrived here without a reservation and they managed to fit us in for 4 nights. We had a lovely time here, it's very exclusive and Vicky and Alex and Craig were awesome. The cocktails were great, if a little expensive and the food good. Although I am vegetarian and they made me some veggie meals but then tried to give me pasta for starter with the chicken picked out and some bits of crab on top, I managed to spot the bits of chicken I missed and handed it straight back!

Snorkelling was decent, saw some reef sharks but no turtles :( The walk to the waterfall was good, but the waterfall is pretty rubbish and not really worth it.

Not a great deal to do on the resort so take a book! it's great if you just want to relax though!!

We had a fantastic stay at Minang Cove, it's hard to know where to begin. To be fair, the place is endowed with enough natural beauty you don't need to add much (you can't really improve on perfection). But Minang Cove did add to the experience - very warm and relaxed staff, amazing malaysian food, great dive facilities, clean grounds and chalets, air conditioning, amazing views, fantastic cocktails, great sea life, accessible coral. We would go back in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Minang Cove Resort for a week in Sept last year and loved every minute of our stay! Everything was amazing...chalet, food, staff, weather, snorkelling. Having a reef right off the beach was incredible and the shark feeding every evening was really good! Every night there was a good selection of food, including fresh fish caught that day some evenings. The traditional malaysian bbq was a particular highlight. The waterfall trek was hot and tiring but totally worth it when you reached the waterfall - very refreshing!!
I would absolutely recommend this resort and will hopefully be returning there again very soon.

We visited Minang Cove not really knowing what to expect - we booked it last minute whilst staying on the neighbouring island of Rawa. I can honestly say it was perfection - tranquillity like I've never experienced before.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped.
The room was very clean and beautifully furnished.
The management couldn't do enough to help - a completely personal experience with no stupid rules because the computer says so.
The best food we had whilst in Malaysia
Beautiful sea
Amazing wildlife

Would we visit again? YES without hesitation!

If you are searching for a really nice resort on Tioman island and not looking to spend a ridiculous amount of money, then you'd be losing out not to consider Minang Cove - a very memorable part of our overall holiday.

Minang Cove Resort is an exquisite property on Tioman. We visited this place on our honeymoon trip to Malaysia. We are pleasantly surprised when we reached the resort. It is way better than the photos on the resort website. The location is great - in a cove with amazing corals around the jetty, The sea is very quiet here - ideal for swimming and realxing on the small private beach. Most rooms would have a view of the sea.
The staff here is very friendly and they do make your stay very comfortable. The meals in the restaurant are great. When we reached there were not more than 10 guests in the resort. This made the resort very exclusive and quiet for us.
One must note that there is no cell phone / internet connectivity in the resort. The restaurant phone is a radio phone and one can make calls only to Malaysia - mainland & Spore.
Overall this is great place to stay, relax and enjoy Tioman!
