“Very nice and friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

We stayed in Bamboo Hill for 6 nights at the most upper chalet (rooms 5 and 6). The view from that chalet was great. The guesthouse itself is very nice and the staff is extremely friendly so you really feel welcome. Wifi works ok (in reception area only) but the internet connection is quite bad everywhere on the island so you might have trouble of having any good connection for a long time anywhere. There is also a nice automatic wakeup every morning as the monkeys run over the chalet screaming at 7 o'clock. :) The only minus is that there is no air conditioning. Luckily there were no mosquitos so we could sleep outside of the mosquito net in the nice breeze of the roof fan. There are two good restaurants just nearby and a nice bar where you can chill out.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 6 are at the highest location so you'll have a great view to the sea and some own pr...

Lots of bugs, but thats to be expected in a jungle, has lots of gaps where bugs and lizards come in, so as long as you get on with them you'll be fine. Amazing location beautiful views from all the rooms and gives you an amazing island feel. The guys running it are lovely and very friendly. Had two young children with us, and they were more than happy staying here with the beach at the bottom of our stairs.

Location was perfect, at the very end of Air Batang Bay. Quiet and calm, you had the nature all to yourself. Saw some monkeys and alligators passed by, as long as you don't feed them, it's fine. We stayed 3 nights in Chalet 4, the view facing the sea was amazing. Had to do a bit of walking and stair-climbing from the reception area but all worth it. No a/c but it's fine, it got cooler throughout the night. they provided mosquito coil but we didn't use it, we just used the mosquito net. they provided tea making facilities, towels, and extra bed tucked beneath the main bed. But I assumed it would be a bit crowded if 3 people stayed in chalet 4. we arrived at 9am in the morning and had our room ready for us. The staffs were all so helpful and nice. Communication was easy through email and phone. When we arrived, we decided to straightly go snorkeling, Ben the manager booked the snorkeling trip for us while we settled our stuffs in our room. Ben was very friendly, shared with us many stories and gave us suggestions on what we could do on the island. They also had a mini-library in the reception where you can borrow books to read. We had our meals at the nearby ABC restaurant (turned out they were the one who organized our snorkeling trip earlier), average Rm9 per meal, portion was big and the food was good. They are actually one big family that runs the snorkeling and restaurant business, all of them were very nice towards us too, on our final night we had barbecue there and the owner treated us with extra food on our plates. Staying at BHC you get the best of both worlds, if you walk along the Air Batang Bay, you get to experience the fun and happening side where all the tourists hang out at the small bars with reggae music.. And when you want calm and serenity - just the sound of waves, you go back to your private sanctuary at BHC. BHC and the people around made our trip so memorable, if we were to spend another holiday in Tioman, BHC is definitely the place we are going to stay in.

Room Tip: Chalet 1 & 2 have direct access to the beach, chalet 4 with amazing view but sharing wall with c...

Just back from 5 nights in ABC at BHC followed by a further 5 nights in Juara. BHC is ideally located at the head of the beach with views all the way down to Tekek rather than directly out to sea - the beach directly outside is pretty good and sandy whereas most of the ABC beach is covered with small rocks - reef shoes are a good idea. Suffering from a low boredom threshold and with an 8 year old in tow I was concerned that time would drag but quite the opposite - the days flew by once acclimatised to Tioman Time. There is limited but adequate food and drink outlets - try them all. Happy Hour cocktails at the Sunset Bar started as favourite but we took to making our own and taking them on our balcony at BHC as that really does have the best views. We did the snorkelling trip organised by ABC which was great and highly recommended - we also used them for our transfer to Juara which was handled with characteristic efficiency. We rented bikes from the closest supermarket to BHC and pedalled off to the big city at Tekak - there is a fairly strenuous portage (about 40 steps up then down) to get over the headland but worth doing.

We spent the first night in Room 4 which is the furthest out - bit tight for 3 (I slept on the balcony on the pull out) but perfectly adequate and close to the rampaging monkeys. We then moved to Number 1 which is much bigger and has easy steps down to the beach. It has 2 rooms which would be fine for x4 although the fan in the bedroom struggled to stir air sufficiently through a mossie net. In both places you'll live on the fantastic balconies which both provide millionaire views for pauper money.

The staff were great - helpful but not intrusive which was the same everywhere we went in Tioman.

It is a bit flaky in places but . highly, highly recommended and if you are off to Tioman I greatly envy you - particularly as I'm now sat on the train to London about to attend a dreary meeting.

Enjoy Tioman Time!

Room Tip: They all have great views.

We spend the beginning of our holiday at Bamboo Hill Chalets and with total satisfaction. We stayed at Chalet no. 6 which appears to be the best spot with great view on the bay of Tioman from Air Batang (ABC) tot Tekek. The price per night 90 Ringitt (RM) which is despite no breakfast a great price for Europeans. We had a fan, coffee and tea are provided and access to fresh filtered drinking water. The staff is friendly and relaxed which makes us feel at home. We already regretted we just stayed for 5 nights. But we had more to visit in our 3 weeks holiday travelling to Indonesia. But this place will stay in our heart.

Bamboo Hill is located at the end of the bay of ABC but near all the restaurants ABC offers.

Contacting Bamboo Hill via mail is easy and people are most willing to help you out. Even though you have to make a climb to chalet no. 6 i can say it's all worthwhile.

Great plus if you like flora and fauna is having daily a visit of some monkeys having their food next to chalet no. 5. No. 5 and 6 are combined together. It doesn't disturb your privacy btw! We had 2 couples that week and all works out perfectly.

Room Tip: Have your breakfast and dinner at ABC restaurant, first restaurant near Bamboo Hill and the little w...

Just returned back to England from Malaysia. This was our second visit to Tioman Island and Bamboo Hill Chalets. Lovely three nights there. This place never lets you down. The location at the end of the beach is set on a hill among wild bamboo and giant big boulders. We was lucky to see the monkeys come down from the jungle every day. The views over ABC beach are stunning. Lin does a great job. Always there if you need any assistance but she also leaves you to enjoy the peace and quiet of the place. Thanks to Ben also who met us from ABC Jetty on arrival to collect our luggage. Got to mention Bah also who works in ABC restaurant about 60 yards up the beach from the chalets. Nice friendly man with lots of local information and he also cooks up a great BBQ in the evenings. Try the fresh Barracuda with Sambal sauce served with a spicy vegetable curry and rice. You will love it.

Room Tip: Chalet number 1 right on the beach

We stayed in August and had an amazing time.
Clean,Friendly and the best views on ABC, we really did love every second with the jungle around you and the beach in front what a great little place.
the owners treated us well and if you want a quite relaxing paradise and want to stay on a budget you cant beat this place. we are lucky enough to have stayed in asia a lot and these chalets are up with the best, the snorkeling is fantastic and the chalets sorted us out with trips and even ticked one off my bucket list by swimming with a black tip.
all in all amazing island , good people and fantastic place.

Room Tip: chalet 2 was the best , its in the middle on the front!! best view and hidden a little so you are n...
