“Go elsewhere if you have a choice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2009

We stayed for one night at this hotel on 1st May (Labor's Day) and paid RM300 net. We chose this hotel based on information we got from its website, which was quite informative and better designed compared to other hotels.

Checked into a Deluxe room at Grd Floor with one single and one queen bed with pool view. The room is ultra basic, no welcome drinks (not even mineral water). The furnitures are old, the room gives a kind of nasty "fishy" smell. On top of that, the aircon is too hot, even though we set at 16 degree at full blast and its remote was not responding properly. The toilet is dirty with black moulds /stains in between the tiles. Hot shower was also not in proper working order.

The swimming pool is small n not well kept. The tiles /bricks sourrounding the pool have soil all over the place, not a nice feeling stepping over them on your way to a splash. A nearby tree, although gives a cooling shade to the pool, is also home to red ants!

The location, despite its name, is not beach front and one has to take 4 to 5 minutes walk to reach the beach. But there are many shops around for food and souvenirs, which is a good thing to have. Avoid the seafood stalls unless you are prepared to be charged a bomb as the price is not fixed and it' s up to the seller to call the shots.

However, on the positive side, the hotel does have a frenly crew and a very courteous, hard working, caring Manager. The balinese concept is somewhat a novelty to this resort but nothing to shout about really.

This is a sweet hotel! Contrary to the name, it's actually about a 4 minute walk from the beach in a quiet area of Pasar Bogak. When we got on the ferry from Lumut, we called the manager, and we were met by a smiling representative of the hotel, who paid for a taxi to the resort. After we were checked in, the manager took us on a little walking tour of the area and gave us his recommendations for eating, boat trips, etc. We were first shown a room on the ground floor, but it didn't look particularly nice, so we were taken to the second floor, and the room there was much nicer - for Pangkor Island, it was a decent value. The room itself was a "superior" room and it was pretty small and a little dark and the mattress sagged a little. There was a TV, water boiler with coffee and tea making amenities, and small table and chairs in addition to the double-sized bed, and a basic, hot-water shower. We had a view of the courtyard and pool (which wasn't all that clean) and the opportunity to watch the hornbills flying nearby, which was a treat! We could not see the ocean from our room - I don't think that it would be visible from any of the rooms. It was nice and quiet though - there was only one other room rented for the two days that we stayed here. Breakfast turned out to be a real treat! Not only was it big and varied with eggs, beans, toast, sandwiches, fruit, coffee or tea and juice (a la carte - they don't do buffets when it's so slow), but the waiter was very attentive and personable on both days. In fact, whenever we saw a worker, we were greeted with a smile - the staff here really went out of their way to make this a nice visit for us! The beach itself is narrow and sandy but quite clean and there are hornbills all over the island, as well as wild boar and monitor lizards. Since they don't keep their restaurant open all day unless you choose a full-board package, we had to walk to a restaurant - there are plenty of places within a very short walk.

  • Liked — Friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast
  • Disliked — Small rooms, no beach view

Golden Beach Hotel and Resorts offers a very welcome environment and comfortable stay for your holidays. This 3 star pleasant, homely and lovely resort is suitable for every functions, gatherings and group or meeting courses.

It is located near the prime beach of Pasir Bogak which is approximately 5 minutes away from the jetty of Pangkor Island. Pasir Bogak is the most popular stretch of beach on the island of Pangkor.
