I can't imagine that one would visit the Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort for anything else but to dive (find it really strange when there are reviews that there's nothing for non-divers!), so, with that in mind, this is an amazing dive resort. The overwater bungalows are huge! The resort is pretty large so you can still roam around to various parts of the resort. Food is also pretty decent. Help, of course, that the waters are amazingly clear with many turtles and rays swimming around. All in all, my husband and I had an amazing time :)

Have you ever looked a gorgeous postcard of a place and promised yourself that you would go there one day? This was such a place for me. In fact, at that time I didn't even have my scuba license, but now I do. Wow, such crystal clear waters, stunning sunsets and remarkable diving here! Diving is all you do here and you do it well with professional dive masters, gear, boats and great dive sites. From pigmy sea horses, giant sea turtles, sharks, muck diving to the best sunrise dive ever! So worth getting up incredibly early to do that dive alone!! It's far away, Pulau, but worth getting here and checking this place out. This resort must be on every serious diver's hit list!

Room Tip: Get a west facing room to watch the stunning sunsets!

This resort did not disappoint! I have to admit, I was a little sceptical having looked at the pictures, compared to price paid for dive package... but it was truly spectacular! The diving was the best I have ever seen - an immense amount of big schoals of fish, of every possible variety, and coral that looks like the stuff you only ever see on National Geographic programmes. THe staff, throughout the resort were excellent - they cater for divers and non-divers with care and attention... and the resort is beautiful... where else can you lie in bed and look out to see.... sea, turtles, sea, turtles, sea, turtles ......

A nice resort, pristine water. However, this resort is suitable for divers only and there are no amenities for family other than diving and snokeling. No aircon in rooms.

Diving was breathtaking though.

Well what more can i say except it was great from the beginning to the end. The resort is also great for diving but do make sure that you book way in advance if you want to dive sipidan island... Which is a must if you are going to sipidan.

Was a great trip and will be back again for sure.

Room Tip: Try and get the room closest to the restaurant or front reception. otherwise you will be walking a g...

Individual chalets on stilts over shallow crystal clear waters of a submerged island teeming with colorful sea life. The chalets are big & very private, ie, well screened. Nicely furnished, huge bathroom with separate tub/shower, lounge chairs in the patio. No air con but the fresh sea breeze & ceiling fan was adequate. Bed a bit hard for me but was usually too tired at the end of the day to really matter.

3 boat dives daily, with buffet breakfast, lunch & dinner plus snack and drinks whole day long to keep the energy up for diving at the many many beautiful crystal clear dive sites teeming with life. The huge schools of fishes (jacks, barracudas & jacks, not to mention the reef sharks, turtles... At Sipadan Island itself was worth the trip. Just writing this review brings back a flood of wonderful memories.....

Non divers please note that there's very little activities for you - no tv, no massage, but you can go snorkeling, swimming, fishing, sun-tanning or just chill. Free wifi is at the reception only but a pre-paid card with local telco gets you decent 3G connection.

Room Tip: No choosing - they'll assign first available room. If you dive, it won't really matter anywa...

This resort is a strange mixture - while it promises a Maldives-style luxury dive resort, it actually under-delivers in many ways, while still offering a beautiful setting and very good underwater wildlife. Getting you to the resort is managed with great efficiency (though why the bus from/to the airport stops for petrol with all the tourists on board, instead of filling up beforehand, is a mystery), by speedboat from Semporna to the resort in less than 45 minutes. On arrival, one is knocked out by the beauty of the setting and the way in which the many huts on stilts have been laid out via a series of attractive walkways. Yet the luxury is more apparent than real (but the luxury prices are very real). There is no air conditioning, and the rooms are very hot. The toiletries are basic. The food can include some nice freshly barbecued prawns or caught-fish, and the french fries are a nice touch, but much of it is quite boring and bland buffet food. The coffee is appalling, and there are no fresh fruit juices. If you snorkel, then there is not a single activity arranged for you, so make sure your stay is no more than 3 days. The reef is right outside your hut, which is a blessing, and there is an abundance of green turtles to swim with. The coral is not particularly beautiful, but visibility is generally good, the water is very calm and there are lots and lots of lovely fish. There is no spa, nor gym. The wifi is very unreliable. The supply of alcohol is very limited (no spirits by the glass, for example), but reasonably priced. During our 5 day stay, there were throughout in total two packets of crisps on sale, both of which we had bought and consumed by day 2. No more ever appeared. There has been a certain amount of adverse comment in other reviews about the Chinese tourists, who represent about 80% of the clientele. In our stay we found the Chinese unfailingly polite, well-behaved and quiet. There was no unseemly pushing and hoarding around the buffet, and the children were nicely behaved. The noisy unruly guests were the Western diving groups, and the usual sprinkling of English or American brattish children running up and down annoying people while their parents took no notice. The resort is situated in a zone preyed upon by Phillipino gangsters prone to abduct tourists, but there was a heavy presence of armed guards during our stay, and the resort is designed as far as possible to minimise the danger of a night-time raid. Overall, I would say that this resort needs to up its game or lower its prices, and if you don't dive, you might find that you are not quite in the right place.
