“Decent Hotel but outside of town center”
Reviewed 19 December 2012

Had to stay the night here as our aircraft broke down and we had accomodations arranged for us at this hotel for the night.

Got a room on the ground floor, single bed. Facing the street. Quiet. Air cond is good and cold. Has all you need for the night. Comfy bed and 11 channels on the telly including the all important ESPN and Star sports.

A bit out of the way as it is at the back of bandar baru sandakan and about 7 or 8 kilometers from the old town, not that there is anything great about old sandakan town anyways.

Lots of food outlets nearby if you don't mind walking. You get what you would pay for I think.

We were sent there by the airline which had cancelled its flight. We arrived after 9 pm. Warning: there are no lifts in this hotel. We proceeded to the restaurant which had about 11 people at the time, many of whom were a result of the cancelled flight. However, the service was so slow, food did not arrived until well over 1.5 hours by which time, before which time, we asked for the food and drinks to be sent up to our room. We were ready to sleep let alone eat dinner. The airconditioning did not seem to work despite making booming noise throughout the night like it should have worked (but did not).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with working air-conditioning

I've booked 4 rooms for 2 nights from 4th-6th August, 2012. There are 8 of us with 4 retirees, my 2 teenagers boys and my husband and me. Location is good with many shops around. Walking distance to the famous ice-cream store 7 Heaven. The hotel is actually shop lot turn into hotel. There is no lift so climbing up the stairs may be a bit tiring. Make sure you ask for a room at Ground floor if you are travelling with elderly or don't want to walk up the stairs. The room and bathroom is clean. The most outstanding thing is the friendly staff and manager Lionel. I am really impressed by the attentiveness of the staff. The bell boy actually manage to recognize us and brought umbrellas to us during a rainy day when we came back at night, even though we park our car about 8 shops away from the hotel. The manager, Lionel has been very friendly and helpful in every way. It's been a wonderful stay with them and we will definitely go back if we ever visit Sandakan again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lionel and the staff for their excellent service.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at Ground floor if you are travelling with people who has problem climbing up the sta...

The room and the bathroom are clean but quite small if to compare to other hotels in Sandakan. To pay for this price I find it was not too worthy.  There is no lift in the hotel as level 3 is the highest floor but just imagine if you are having a big and  heavy luggage to check in? One thing I was attracted is their design in the lobby and the staircase while you walk  up to your room.

Great to check in after a few days of being on the move to a room with a comfortable bed and very clean environment.

The highlight was the Manager (Lionel?) and a couple of his staff. They were very friendly, helpful in giving tips on the area and made me feel more than welcome.

Property can be a bit tricky to find if you are not familiar with the area, so make sure you get good directions from someone on staff who speaks good English if you don't have a good local map. It is 8k out of town, but surrounded by a great complex that is a hodge podge of trendy bars and restaurants and older local shops.

We did check in only for 2 days with not much expectation. But at our arrival we were greeting very nicely with face towel and welcome drink pretty original (lemongrass juice). The hotel is cozy and charming, room was really comfortable, very clean with facilities. The restaurant provide very decent western and local food, i did choose a basic spaghetti bolognaise but it was really a good choice, portion was good and plenty of flavour. They have also plenty of restaurants and clubs around. I will definitively be back on my next business trip in sandakan
