We booked this as a treat on a long trip round Asia and it really delivered. It was probably a promotional rate so it was exceptional value. But the whole thing was perfect. Huge room (v comfy beds), infinity pool, brilliant service, great location.

Would highly recommended this place.

A fresh new hotel with a wonderful wiev ower the ocean and a swimingpool on the 13:th floor. Nice! Very good location. The breakfast was large and the restaurant was located on the 13:flor and had a wunderful wiev.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a wiev and high up in the hotel.

I used the Four Points as a base after spending time down the Kinabatangan river and at Selingan Island so I found the bed and shower to be absolutely fabulous - to say I arrived a bit windswept would be an understatement!!

I found the reception staff to be quite helpful; but the staff at the concierge desk were fantastic and went to the extra effort. Wifi reception was a bit hit and miss during my stay.

Breakfast was ok. (A number of other people I met during my stay reported quite a few problems with breakfast and the hotel at dinner time, however I didn't personally eat at the restaurant).

I also left a bag at the hotel between while I went to Selingan Island which was handy.

This hotel is located on the waterfront and right next to the market. I had a view looking over the pool which was pleasant.

Aussies & Kiwis - I stayed here the night before ANZAC day. The hotel organised a free bus to and from the dawn service, so if you're intending to go along be sure to ask if they have room for you.

Central location close to waterfront food options & supermarket. Nice pool area with good view. Nice enough hotel & good for the area. Free internet access.

We found it hard to find somewhere to do washing so for the benefit of others - there is a laundrette around the corner from the Four Points just on the right hand side (1st floor) of the roundabout up from the Sandakan central market, called Tepian Tanah Dobi. It washes by the kilo rather than by item which most others seemed to do.

Dear Borneo50,

Thank you very much for your review. I'm glad that you had enjoyed our hotel in your recent stay. In regards to laundry service, we actually offer such service in the hotel as well which you could ask for express service as well if you need it back urgently before you leave. Please do call our service agent to pick it up next time.

Wish we will welcome you back to stay with us again in the near future. Have a great day!

We had a long flight and a busy 3 day schedule so booked a club room.

The check in staff were friendly, helpful, enthusiastic. And slow. They gave us a list of club room inclusions: Welcome drink on arrival didn't arrive; Complimentary breakfast was ok; Daily fruit bowl - fruit on day 1, nothing thereafter; Executive lounge had no staff in it, only old magazines from past guests and a small jar of biscuits. I was charged for soda water as it was not one of the complimentary soft drinks! There were not enough chairs in the lounge for patrons; the one waitress was so slow that it took over 40 minutes for a drink to arrive, our “free flow” amounted to 2 drinks; both times we went they had run out of what we asked for; snacks were limited, so when they were gone, that was it. Slow wireless internet access was available once you’d hunted down the staff for the passcode. None of this is vital but it’s irritating to pay for promises that are not fulfilled.

Add to this that they had soy milk on day 1 but not 2 or 3; had no mint in the hotel for mint tea (despite serving mohitos!); and ran out of limes.

We spoke with the concierge about the trips we wanted to make and he tried to push us onto pre-arranged tours with their preferred agencies, so we walked around the corner to Sepilok Wildlife Adventures, where a very helpful lady sorted us out with a car and driver for 3 days. For the same cost as the tours offered in the hotel but doing what we wanted when we wanted.

Rooms were ok; tatty around the edges but big and clean. The hotel is sea front and has nice sea views - and a strong smell of fish outside! There was no way to recycle - with the sea outside full of plastic this was front of mind; we had a horrible feeling that is where our rubbish was ending up.

There was a power cut 2-9pm on our last day. Stuff happens, but it seemed there was no plan for it. At 8pm, we were advised to go to the to the pool level. "Complimentary” snacks (already in our room rate and nothing vegi) were laid on and water. Could have done with a beer! We decided to go elsewhere for dinner and no-one offered to contact us when the power came back on. So we had the restaurant staff check out of the window - Bilit - in the Hotel Nak - great food and bar.

On check out next morning, there was no mention from the still sleepy, hoodie wearing receptionist of being locked out of our room and having no access to showers, meals etc due to the power cut.

It has a good pool area and the pool staff are good. There was a great guy running about organizing things during the power cut. Everything else was average and the staff need a lot more training. We stayed here as a base for Sepilok and Kintabagan and step off to Danum Valley. We would not do this again, we'd stay in Sepilok and Kintabagan first as this is an average hotel and it just adds to the length of the day trips.

Room Tip: If you are there for the wildlife, stay in Sepilok.

Dear JamesandJodie,

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the experience you had at our hotel recently. This had concerned us greatly and we did take these feedback seriously to improve ourselves moving forward. We had reviewed our Executive Club Lounge experience and the revamp of this whole experience is underway. I am so sorry about power outage experience as well. I am aware that better approach in managing the situation should be taken. I and my team had done a post mortem and came up with improvement action in handling such incident in the future. Once again I do apologize for this unacceptable experience.

Thank you very much for giving us your honest feedback. We do aim for a great improvement and hope you would give us another chance to show you how we deliver the true service quality as our real standard.

My brother and I stayed here for 2 nights to visit the orangutans at Sepilok. We decided to do this rather than trying to do this in one day from Kota Kinabalu. We talked to another couple on our tour and they were going to be travelling for approx 16 hours just to do the organutans and city tour in one day from Kota Kinabalu.

Hotel is relatively new, waterfront location and we had seaview club rooms on the 24th floor. Club lounge you needed to find staff to get drinks as there was no one dedicated to look after you. Staff in the restaurant need to have further training on the menu in particular what the individual dishes contained and be more aware of the guests.

Our rooms on 24th floor were comfortable but the bathroom had a shower over the bath with a high ledge to step over to get into. As it seems a bit weird as were talking to another couple and they had a separate walk in shower.

It appears that Sandakan is a transit point for the orangutans, eco tours and jungle tours. No one seems to be there more than 2 days.

Room Tip: Seaview room looking over the ships or markets are a good option but Club lounge service needs impro...
