“It is a wonderful tribute to those that lost their lives”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

I did not know about this part of the war, and it was sobering reading about what happened in the prison camp. The park is well maintained and a great tribute to those that lost their lives at this terrible time in history. We had no idea that this happened in Sabah, most enlightening. So glad we made the effort to visit.

“A walk through history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

It is a well-maintained place. Thanks to the large number of trees, the place is not so hot even though we went there in the afternoon. Unlike the one in Ranau, Sandakan Memorial Park doesn't require an entrance fee and it's bigger. You could see a handful of locals hanging around the area too.

“A must see place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

The park is situated on the former POW camp from where the infamous WW2 marches started.
The area is very well looked after and gives a great insight into the history of the camp.

“Very beautiful and peaceful. ”

It's really a nice place to visit in Borneo to see the history of WW2 in this part of the world. The surrounding was well maintained and kept. Would highly recommend this place if you visit Sandakan.

The gardens are kept beautifully. Glad that I went to pay my respects. It would have been nice to perhaps be able to purchase history books, t.shirts ect.
