During my say over the weekends I find this place rather relaxing. The settings of the resort was filled with wood and plants with traditional and cultural design in the lobby. The best thing is there's a private beach. I stayed at level 5 and rhe rooms were clean and well kept with new tiles and bath room. Considering this hotel has been ages, it had maintain its standards well. There's also sauna, hot water spa by the pool, water sports activities at te beach, spa, gym, a cafe specializes in coffee for coffee lovers, trips organized to the kampung where guest can tour around visiting local places nearby tge resorts and fireflies tour is great! Overall good breakfast with lots of variety but dinner in the hotel is not recomended as food is cold and lack of variety. There's a joke of the day corner near the entrance by the lobby longue where daily jokes are posted on the board. Overall, i enjoye my stay and find that its satisfying in Trengganu.

Stayed 5 nights as a business traveler this time, so could not make use of the resort facilities. Excellent beach front, swimming pools and play areas for children. Good golf course and driving range. Have stayed several times since 1998 and, therefore, could see that the rooms have been renovated. My room had a large bath tub INSIDE the room. Breakfast is excellent with wide choices in breads and local favorites. At dinner time the restaurant was deserted perhaps because there is a good choice of restaurants on the road side within 500 meters. Overall, this resort is good value for money for families.

I travel throughout Asia Pacific, staying in Hotels for more than 6 months of the year. This is the Hotel that I class as the worst! I stay at 2 / 3 star Hotels in China / Vietnam / Indonesia which are better than this supposed 5 star Hotel.
For a Business person you are left with two, equally miserable alternatives, but I would rate the Resisidence Paka as being better!
There is nothing good to say about the Awana, so I won't go into the list of problems.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same - unless you want to be totally overcharged.

We wanted to book a two night stay here but only had a chance to stay here a night as it was fully booked by the Le Tour de Langkawi contingent and had to stay a night beforehand in the really awful apartments situated next to Awana. The hotel has a nice spacious lobby and check in was fast. We took two adjoining rooms for our family with a nice view of the pool and ocean. Prior to our stay here we've heard of poor reviews of the rooms but the ones we had seemed to be very pleasant and comfortable. Plenty of toiletries and other amenities were available. Bathrooms were fitted with separate shower cubicle and a bathtub with sliding windows with a view into the room.

The resort seem to be very family oriented with a giant snake and ladders and chess courts. There is also a playground and a large kiddie wading pool with several slides. However access to the pool is tightly nazi like control with fencing all around it . Pool towel is zealously guarded which is almost comical since you must pass by the coffeehouse and towel counter to have access to the pool and it is quite a walk to get to the kiddie pool . Pity any kids who suddenly have the urge to use the bathroom...The beach is clean and deserted which is different from the beaches of Penang where we normally frequent. The hotel does not provide free wi fi which is a let down and the rooms still use the oldfashion key locks instead of key cards. They even had a sample lock on the checkin counter to educate people on how to use the key !

Nice location, but the years have had its way with the property. Service is mixed as a lot of staff turnover (typical of the area) creates some serious issues. Best option by far for the area, but that isn't saying too much. They offer everything you would expect from a large beach/golf resort. Reasonable pricing and lack of serious competition make this the only place to be in the area.

Checked in smoothly on 29 Feb 2012. Sharing the room with a colleague but only one key was provided for us to share.
No one offered to help on the luggage.
Room was no face-lift, same as my last years' stays.
Breakfast was with old time choices. Nasi Lemak was served with not-well-cooked groundnuts and anchovies.
Cafe was averagely managed but the chicken tortilla wrap and iced coffee moccha were nice! RM14++ each.

After reading dreadful reviews, was quite apprehensive when I booked this hotel. Surprisingly, the rooms were still in pretty good condition. I noticed that the hotel in fact did some refurbishment in the room wherever is required. And the rooms are clean not not dusty.

Except for the kids' pool which badly needed a total overhaul, there are plenty of games in the playroom to occupy the kids.
