“Best Hotel to stay in Terengganu”

No bell boy service. Fast check in. Comfortable & clean room. The interior design look a bit old fashion thou. Big Swimming pool, good buffet breakfast. Nice beach. Friendly staff. The towel system at the pool is really troublesome. Apparently a card towel was suppose to be issued during check in. Unfortunately, the person who checked me in forgot. i had to walk all the way up to get the towel card from the swimming pool. Not to mention the slow lift and the pool was about to close.

Room Tip: ask for high floor near the lift. if you plan to go swimming, remember to get the towel card when yo...

I stayed here and went back happy. I was attracted to this hotel, this hotel, Awana Kijal or just the resort name is great! Great staff, nice service and the best part is where they have giant chess which you can actually play with! I love the beach view room I got. There were bicycle rents available and I rented a bicycle for 2. One bicycle 2 people! Other than this, this hotel is marvellous! I really would like to thank the managment of the hotel especially the manager. I really need a great hotel like this! For the people who are reading this review out there, I really yes really recommend you this hotel! It is the best ever. But still the price is not cheap, its pricey. Thats the downside of this hotel. Pricey rooms are still ok. Will I stay here again? Well my answer is maybe. Since the price is pricey Id rather stay somewhere else, but for the greatness of this hotel.... suprisingly, I may come back. The rooms are OK, the bathrooms, well you can see people in your room bathing. Not great if you really need privacy. Maybe for couples it may be a great thing but if you are travelling with friends, you should do something. Nice pool tho. I dont recommend for people who have fixed budgets like me. My overall experience is great. You can ask me anything about this hotel anytime! Thanks for reading!

Room Tip: Take the room which has the beach view, its cool.

I stayed here on business in May 2013, for two nights. The hotel is situated right on the beach and is stunningly designed, with a highly impressive atrium which features restaurants and the reception. Staff are very helpful and breakfast was varied and of a good standard. Rooms are rather tired, but are perfectly clean and have everything you could reasonably need for a short stay.

There seems little to do locally, but the nearby Chinese restaurant "Grand View" is a good choice for those who want to eat away from the hotel - don't be put off by the very basic, cafe-style appearance!

Was staying here for two nights.
Breakfast was good, the spread had western and local mix.
Good enough for my simple requirements.
Location was a bit out of the way but the restaurants and shops just outside the entrance had very decent and affordable meals.
The residents of the service apartments mostly eat there.
The beach was clean and mostly deserted.
Occupancy was quite low possibly due to its location, mostly used by the staff of the nearby petrochemical plants.
Will return for sure if I want another break

Room Tip: Booked on Agoda.com and the rate was good. Must ask for non smoking room.

The rooms was average. They have kids playground swimming pool. I will never forget riding a bicycle with my kids and my husband. It was so fun.

No nasi dagang menu for breakfast. We booked two rooms with 2 breakfasts for each room. I have no problem to pay for my kids breakfast but the price far too expensive! Not worth paying because the food can consider average too.

Room Tip: You will get better room when you check in on low season.

The resort is the best place in the area.. there is not much more around. After re-branding from Awana Kiajal to Resorts World Kijal, some necessary updates have been done and are still ongoing. With one of the many golf courses beside, that is a kind of local country club...for the residents. A lot of guests are business travellers on the way to off shore platforms or local oil companies. Coveralls in all bright colors is usual outfit of guests. Therefore (nice big)pool is not very busy and beach is empty. Food selection is average, breakfast buffet is ok, but nothing 5 star at all. More 3* +. As Terengganu is strictly islamic, no alcohol is served in the restaurants. Only place is the KTV bar and the beach hut (closing at 7:00 pm) Rooms are average. Hotel is more than 10 years old, furniture too. CRT TV is standard, Internet is charged (quite pricy) and speed in the lobby quite poor. Staff is friendly but often not very fast. Parking is free. There is not much to see around there. In Monsoon time (November to mid March ?) the sea is too rough swim. It is quite expensive for the package, but they do not really have any competition close enough.

Room Tip: The shop cluster just in front of the hotel has several small restaurants and the Chinese operations...

The first impression I had on the property was good: The hotel boasts a stately lobby and grand appearance, especially when viewed from outside. The room I got, however, fell short of the hotel's 5-star status. It had the distinctive 'damp' smell that you normally get in an old, poorly-maintained hotel room. Perhaps they should steam clean the carpet more often? The interior fittings, whilst pretty grand, were very dated. The room looked like they were taken straight from a 90s film. The washroom was reasonably clean and the bed was comfy enough, so no complaint there.

I tried the in-room dining service, and the food was delivered on time. The food, however, was so-so, especially considering the price. The hotel cab, however, was the biggest rip-off: I was charged RM 70 to get to the Kertih Airport (Mind you that the airport was just 10 minutes' away from the hotel).

To sum it up, Awana Kijal is a reasonable choice when you're in Kemaman/Kertih (for lack of other options), but it certainly doesn't deserve the 5-star rating anymore. It's a shame that such a great investment would be left to rot gradually without proper maintenance. A breath of fresh air is what the hotel direly needs.
