What a wonderful experience, great food, beach fantastic, staff SUPER friendly!!.Stayed here last 2 week for 3 days. Its a beautiful white sand beach, pristine waters, all the fish you hope to see and a very relaxed atmosphere. No pressure, no crowds ... Its a private island !!!!! Me & my wife stay at Water Villa & it was stunning!!..its all very clean and tidy, ( facing the south china sea ). Can see a lot of fish in the sea from the villa.
I got chance to hike to the top of the island for a pretty view. If u're person who loved photography this is the right place for you to grab the beautiful scenary.
There is a common area which is also the restaurant, and across a good spa. There is also a nursery for marine tertarughe and if you are lucky you.

A true paradise on earth ... for all .. island, resort, location, sea, fish, corals ... ah, a restaurant also excellent!!

Room Tip: . Please bring some food such as bread, cookies or mineral water. . Bring along your track/sport sho...

A lot of good things to say about this place. The island itself is beautiful and only 15 mins from Marang Jetty. Gem and Kapas island feel a lot less touristy than when we stayed on Perhentian islands with the vast array of diving centres and accommodation. The sea view chalets are brilliant; they have air conditioning and fans with a bed and a mosquito net(currently covered in bites). The balcony has two chairs facing Kapas island and the ocean and it's perfect to have a drink or read a book on. Service from the hotel is first class, really friendly and efficient with a good selection and standard of food. Lots of kayaks and snorkelling equipment and diving can be arranged from Kapas. The other half loved the turtle sanctuary. We stayed here for 2 nights then moved onto Kapas for a wider variety of food and a new experience, though we would have happily stayed.

Not much to do besides eat, drink, kayaking and snorkeling in the island. It is the only resort and with one restaurant its kind of what you do "relax". If you go for snorkeling, the coral garden is incredible (green, purple, blue, white corals), big vast area special on this days tha you can not find such variety in one spot. Food is OK, average and room very simple with just the basics.
Kayaking to Redang was nice and easy then take the oportunity to take a walk and snorkle as well. For my surprise they will charge you for the use of those, even in most of resort I have been non motorized sport are ususally free. Not sure about the swimming pool, I don't think there is one or at least what it looks like for me and the boys it was not it.

The only resort in the island, suitable for relaxing holiday and spend some private time with your love one. During weekend is always fully booked, so i suggested to go on weekday if you are looking for quiet time spend with your love. People are very friendly, well trained, food is excellent. Suggesting to go for full board package, but a-ala-carte is highly recommended. However, the spa provided by the resort is VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING. Will not recommend anyone to try.

Room Tip: May upgrade to different villas to get complete privacy without having any neighbour.

We had high expectations for Gem, expected to see turtles in the sea and were a bit disappointed when we could not see any in the sea,... The sea color is not as nice as on Redang or Perhentians and there is much less corals,... The houses are not renovated and mosquitos have no problems getting in and having a good dinner on your account,.. Positive is that it is the only resort on the nice little island. Get a canoe and row to the Kapas island, which have better sea than Gem.

My friend recommended this place to me although he himself has never been here before and I am glad that I listened to him :) We booked two rooms of 3 days 2 night full board package . The rooms in sea frontage water villas are spacious with AC, big fan on the ceiling, simple yet nice bathroom, TV with limited channel and a cozy sofa to relax on.
My toddler nephew liked to see fish from the balcony and feed them. I can say my nephew enjoyed the stay in the island as we did. He can play sand or simply play in the water near the beach.
The food was excellent with big prawns, octopus, fish and many more. Sometimes we can enjoy buffet ,sometimes ala carte. All
of the food are yummy and we were always be the first to arrive at the restaurant :D
We felt very relax spending time in this tiny island. The staffs were helpful

They have a certain time for a blackout in the afternoon. Electricity power was switch off in the whole island for a couple of hours due to the maintanence of generator. This is very torturing for us as we would like to spend 2-5pm taking a nap in the room, however it was too hot for us. My suggestion is, it is better to turn off electricity in the morning as the weather is still not too hot yet and people are spending time eating breakfast in the restaurant. During our stays, the air conditioner itself is not cold enough. We tried to use ceiling fan to help but it can cause dizziness as well. I don't have idea why it can't be cold although most of the air conditioner look new and have date written on it,which I pressume are the recent purchased date.

Overall, i can say the stay is good and hope they can do something with the air conditiner :)

Room Tip: Just make sure your A/C is cold when they show you the room

This is the second time I have visited Gem Island, the first being in 2009, and it still remains a beautiful and totally relaxing place to spend some time.
The rooms are quite spacious with great views from the balcony of the water villas.
The beaches are excellent and quiet perfect for relaxing. I did intend to have a couple of days diving around Pulau Kapas, but after snorkeling off Gem Island I didn't think I would see anymore. The reefs around the island offer a wide variety of marine life from clown fish to sharks and its a must to spend a few hours drifting in the sea looking at the marine life. We were also lucky to be present one night to witness the release of some baby turtles.
The food is also excellent offering a wide variety of both local and western cuisine.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone who wants a few days to relax and unwind, it's just a shame I had to come home.
