“Perhentian Island paradise”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

The beach is stunning and the snorkelling in the coral reef just off the beach (to the left of the jetty) is amazing. We saw rays, turtles, sharks (small black-tips, not dangerous), butterfly fishes, bat fishes and so much more here. They have a diving center with very friendly staff, I tried my first dive ever with them and it was totally amazing.
The hotel itself has nice, but aging bungalows, the hotel garden is beautiful and there is a nice pool for those who would need it. Our three year old kid loved it.
The restaurant serves great food.
The hotel is surrounded (except for the beach side) by jungle and you can expect to see wild monkeys (dusky leaf monkey, super cute species), one-and-a-half-meter-sized monitor lizards, white bellied sea eagles, flying foxes and many more animal species at, or just outside, the hotel premisses.
There is a jungle trail leading from this hotel to another side of the island (flora bay). It takes some 45 minutes to walk and it is really nice. Dont forget insect repellent, though.
Be sure to visit the beautiful and quiet turtle beach - the most beatiful beach on the island, according to the locals. Its not far from the hotel, just take a boat taxi there and be sure to book your return trip in advance.
One drawback - this is one of the most expensive hotels on the island. The hotel just beside it is cheaper, but seemed to be very nice. That hotel also has very close access to the coral reef and nice beaches.
All in all, if you like nature and wildlife, this is nothing short of a paradise. The hotel itself is not the best, but the beach, nature and surroundings are stunning.

Staff are extremely rude, make you feel like you are a burden to them. We were basically trapped on the resort for 2 days as all boat taxis and facilities were closed for 'off season', which was never mentioned to us while booking.

The rooms are old, smelly and uncomfortable. The islands were a huge disappointment for us, but that is 100% as result of the resort itself.

The food was terrible also, with only 5-6 items available from the menu, we lived on club sandwiches for 2 days!

After the first night (which was the annual staff party, nobody was working) we booked a different hotel online on the small island, only to find out in the morning there was no boat transfers to get us there.

Simply put, the place is an absolute disgrace.

the beach very dirty but one ohe the best of the Perhentians, generally very dirty!
Quiet but a resort more 2 stars according to the service.
Horrible swimming pool.
No activities proposed.
Chosse Lang Tengah, one million nicer than perhentians!

This is a simple but pleasant resort in an unbeatable position. It occupies the entire bay on one of the most beautiful beaches that you can imagine. Colourful fish and large turtles can be seen just off the beach. The resort offers good value snorkeling tours around the island.
We were concerned by the negative reviews that we had read of this property, but our fears were unfounded. Our beach-front room was simple but attractive. Service was friendly, the beach is stunning. The meals are adequate but not exciting; however, it is only a five minute walk to the main beach where there are several tasty restaurant options.
This is the best option to stay on Perhentian Besar - all the other resorts or cabins are located on top of each other along the other beaches - but it's not first world luxury. This is a small island off the coast of the most conservative state in Malaysia, and is a lovely low-key holiday destination. But if your requirements for a holiday resort are based on the presence of security guards, activities and kids clubs (the basis of one recent review of this resort) then you would be better off in Bali or Phuket.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a little extra for a beach front room. The view was beautiful.

Chose this hotel only because it is the best one in Perhentian Island. After I came, I found totally not good value for money. First to say is the service. I sent the hotel email to confirm our reservation, but I found they were quite impatient. My agent told me it is no use to send email before arrival for a better room, they will pay no attention for sure.

The room is far from satisfaction. When we checked in, there is no electricity supply, so we could not use air conditioner. Also, no toothprush is provided, even in semi-suite. The furniture looked aged and in poor maintenance. The choice of food is quite limited, even without egg station. The quality of food is pretty average.

Bad value for money.

After, spending a disastrous weekend in Tioman Island, we made sure in Perhentian, we stayed in a resort where we wouldn't have to share the our accommodation with rats! (Anyway, that is a topic for another review (Tioman).

This resort was recommended to us by a colleague who stayed in another resort because the beach here is fantastic and it is not noisy. and it looks nice

Beach- Fantastic. Clear waters. You can snorkel in the shallow end and see beautiful corals and fish.

Restaurant - so so! our booking included lunch. The choice was not much. But there are other resorts in the Island. You can walk there in the evenings. I would say, go to other resorts for food if you can.

Accommodation - not new but clean. Let's say for Malaysia's standards it is good. In Malaysia, you don't always get what you paid for. After living in Malaysia for almost 2 years, I can say this was one of the best I have stayed in.

Staff - polite

Activities - My booking included snorkel in the morning and afternoon. It was good

Other activities - hiking - you can hike (there is a trail), to the turtle Island resort and other resorts.

Alcohol is not allowed in this resort but you can walk to others where alcohol is sold.

This resort is ideal for parents with children, families and couples who do not want to stay somewhere noisy.

Had some wonderful days at perhentian island resort. Nice staff and great bungalows. Breakfast was tasty, nothing to complain about.

The beach is a true paradise. You can swim with turtles right outside the beach. Amazing.
