“Great place for company or family trip”

The chalets are nice and clean. The food here is good...however i do recommend for anyone to try out other restaurants on the island such as Abdul Chalet.
The sands of this beach is better here as not so many dead corals compared to the public ones.
The only set back is that you cant explore much to other beaches as it is quite secluded and far from other beaches. The good thing is that the beach are not crowded.

This is my second stay at PIR. My first trip to PIR was on 2007.
Nothing much changed except they have new jetty and the trees are grown up now. The beach stays paradise as always. For me, PIR’s beach is the best ever. The resort is well kept and looks good although after 7 years since my last visit.

It was a big surprise to me to find out that PIR is one of the favourite resort among the big group holidaymakers! It is okay to have a big group or more groups with you on the same resort as long as your privacy does not been disturbed. Both visits I stayed at the most expensive room; the semi suite chalet with the ocean view [honeymoon suite or any better suite is excluded in this case]. The reason was to feel comfortable with privacy, to enjoy and to be near enough to the amazing beach through out my stay. Unfortunately, I was served with the lousy and cheap open air karaoke session held by [most] groups who checked in at PIR as one of their gala activities at night time. This kind of activity is allowed in the resort until 11pm. It was a nightmare. They put no TV in each room but they allow open air karaoke session near the main area just a few steps away from the semi suite chalets?

If really PIR does not bother about other single, couple or small family travelers’ privacy, I do hope that PIR will soon build a sound proof karaoke room at the end and most back of their resort near the jungle. This kind of chaotic and noisy ambiance is not fair for single, couple or small family travelers who also pay the same amount to enjoy the holiday at the resort. Do you know why I picked Perhentian Besar instead of Perhentian Kecil? PRIVACY with paradise beach is the answer. If I wanted happening beach holiday, of course Perhentian Kecil is at the top of my list with no doubt.

On top of that, these big groups tend to make and throw rubbish along the beach area especially after group activities although there are many rubbish bins within the resort. Empty drinking bottles, plastic food wraps, empty cigarette boxes and cigarette buts can easily been found on the white sandy beach especially near the beach chairs.

The last but not least, yes, the food was awful like many other travelers commented. I had bad food experience during my stay at PIR 7 years ago and who would have not think that this issue has not been overcome or improved although after 7 years? The food is still awful.

Loved the place, it has an idyllic surrounding, just on the beach with the forest behind it.

Staff is friendly and always smiling. Great diving instructors in Fleur and Rashid.

Room view was not good, and the resort was on the expensive side. Breakfast was also not as expected.

Good values about PIR : Beautiful beach with crystal clear water just right infront of the resort (less than 5 mins walk). Great dive centre with profesional and helpful divemasters/instructors (compliments to Mr. Rashid, Ms. Flo & other members in the centre) and well-maintained dive equipments. Clean room and friendly staffs that ready to help. Near to nature with green jungle just steps away from room. Good food served for daily buffets with variety of choices. Punctual and well-arranged transportation from the jetty-island-jetty. Comments for improvement : To have TV and wifi connection in the room. To have some beach activities / nightlife for the guest (eg. banana boat ride, bar etc). (p/s : This is not the place if you prefer happening, noisy nightlife, but it is definately the place if you would like to have a peaceful, calm and enjoyful vacation, recommended especially for family).

This was our second trip to Perhentian - previously we had stayed at Kecil. But this was our first time staying on the larger Besar island. To be honest it doesn't really matter where you stay in Perhentian - you are guaranteed a spectacular trip especially if you are into scuba diving and / or amazing beaches. The resort is in need of a major facelift, there's no doubt about that. I won't go into the litany of things that need fixed because this would detract from the fact that we had an amazing three nights there. The food is not great - but you can take a boat taxi over to Long Beach on Kecil where you will find better food and a more hip and swinging nightlife. Everything is kinda crumbling and in need of some TLC. But it's a resort and so you shouldn't be in your room anyway. Oh, and look out for the huge monitor lizards! They make an excellent photo op.

I stayed there for two night , The room we got had a view on forest way back from the beach , it had no TV , no WIfi connexion no nothing, there even lot of electricity blackout , the service was medium and what i hated the most that price of everyhitng was exagerrated, don't think about snorkeling there ,it'a way too expensive!, the only good thing was the staff were nice and the food wasn't that bad

We've spent great 5 days at PIR. Although the resort itself has its best years behind and some refurbishing is needed the overall quality of stay was fantastic. We had a bungalow just about 10-15 meters from the beautiful beach (imo best on Perhentians), the atmosphere was laid back and with quiet evenings. Well, besides the wildlife ;-) There's a footbridge connecting the resort with other beaches - there are restaurants, hotels and shops with alcohol. This is important if you like to wash down the delicious seafood with beer, as most of the island's hotels and restaurants are alcohol-free zones. From the PIR you can take a canoe, scuba diving lessons and take a jungle trek, but what is truly amazing ? The jungle comes to you in form of monkeys jumping from the mango tree, great monitor lizards walking near the pool or colugo (not to be confused with flying squirrel) landing on a palm tree next to your house. If you are animal lover this is a place to be ! And if you can handle a suprise such as spider the size of a man's fist invading your walls from time to time ;-) The water is great for snorkeling and diving, you can reach the coral reef just swimming from the beach. I've had a wonderful holiday there !

Room Tip: Rooms with a seaview are pricey but worth it !
