“A stunning location, but average standard ”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

The resort has by far the most beautiful location, stunning beach and surroundings on the island, however the entire establishment is in need of an upgrade. Rotten walls because of water damage, dead mouse in the ceiling, no functioning internet and a non useable restaurant. My group of nine did by dine there one single evening. All in all it does not seem like the hotel management want to earn money or please the guests for that matter. The staff did the best they could, but several days the people that cleaned the rooms forgot to clean our bungalow and we had to ask for the right amount of towels several times. One evening a turtle came up on the beach to lay eggs, however the resort had no procedures on how to handle such situations, so locals ended up stealing the eggs to sell and eat before we could do anything. The hotel manager told us he had been down there, but then obviously done nothing. He also lies to us about the procedures, which we got to know from a local dive instructor the day after. I personally find it horrifying that the resort does not take responsibility for the turtle eggs, after all it is the amazing marine park they earn their money on. All in all the bungalows are good, as long as you get the beach front ones. Other people living in the ones further back told us about rats and iguanas running around their doorstep. The breakfast is for most Europeans not very consumable, so foodwise I would recommend Watercolors or Coral View.

We recently planned a 5 day long weekend in Perhentian diving but since this is super peak season now, we were left with a few options in the Perhentian Besar (Big Island in Bahasa).

When I rang the Perhentian Island Resort sales office in KL, I was told that only Semi-suite units were available and went ahead and booked 2 units. However we were told upon check-in that the semi suites were no longer availble and were asked to take two deluxe rooms instead that are close to the end of the beach.

The deluxe rooms are run down, dirty and the tbathrooms are less than basic. There's a leak in my bathroom and dead rat (!!) next to the balcony. Even after complaining, no actions were being taken.

The hotel manager eventually got us the suites which are much decent. They are beach facing, clean(er) and well kept although bathrooms are still very basic. Housekeeping was done hastily everyday.

Facilities at the resort are poorly maintained - we experineced power cuts every day (sometimes when I was in the shower) and no water for one of the days we were there. The rooms definitely need some upgrading.

Breakfast was plain awful. Very little options. Poorly managed banquet staff and not well trained at all.

All in all, the rainforest, sandy beach and crystal clear water made up for the resort's poor maintenance.

Food options? Coral View Resort offers ok options for lunch. Or further down the bay, there are one big Thai restaurant and a small convenient store/cafe which also serves food. The big restaurant has better options but EXTREMELY rude service. We were told to leave the restaurant when they saw that us buy drinks from the convenient store next door. If you do not mind, take a water taxi across to Perhentian Kecil (Small Island) where there are more options. My recommendations: pizzas and cocktails at Oh-LaLa bar (in front of Panaroma Resort) and Bubu Resort Restaurant

Tips for divers:
- Diving is fantastic! The Pro-Divers dive shop is a 10 minute walk away from the Perhentian Island Resort (next to Coral View Resort), 5 star PADI certified.
- Do not miss dive sites: Tokong Laut (Temple of the Sea) and Sugarship Wreck

Room Tip: Ask for semi suites by the beachfront.

What looked fine on the internet turned out to be a huge turndown. The 'restaurant' buffet was always cold, always fried and always bland. The 'beach Kiosk' only sells coconuts, and the BBQ with freh fish only had chicken sausages and shrimps.
Everything (also in the 'gift shop') was extremely expensive and there was nothing too choose from. AC in room not working, door in hut can't open, huts very dirty and when it rains, it's rains in everywhere. We'll never come back here

Hotel is located on a very nice beach and location is stunning with greenery and tropical forest with monkeys and big monitor Lizards around you. Water is very clear with good coral reefs and Sharks and turtles can be seen in the lagoon. Chalets are nice but in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. Service in restaurants and food is not of the best standard must say. Breakfast is really poor actually. No alcohol served in this so called 3-star hotel is bad. Pool is Dirty. Shop has no good to offer You. Tennis and Badminton in very bad shape. Service is fair but nothing special must say... Hotel Coral View and Tuna Bay much better restaurants and are in Walking distance from the hotel. If they do necessary upgrading and shape up this is a nice place but other hotels are better such as Tuna Bay and Bubu Long Beach in Perhentians today.

Room Tip: Have to say that other hotels in Perhentians are better than this, sad to say as it could be very ni...

I went for a quick 3-day weekend trip, in between business meetings. My main goal was to blow as many bubbles diving as possible. All the arrangements and transfers were well coordinated and, to my surprise, was much easier than I anticipated. And the Dive guides were superb.

The rooms are so-so, but the setting is great. There is no booze, so the place quiets down about 9pm. Great for families and Honeymooners, of which there were many.

The diving, particulalrly on the outside of the two islands was pretty fantastic, and I encounteres many cheerful snorklers as well.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the beach are quiet, in a jungle setting.

The food provided very good, every meal we have a full stomach of nice food. We can snorkelling at the beach in front of the hotel where there is a lot of colourful fish there. The view very beautiful especially in the evening. Will consider to stay here again if ever come to perhentian.
