Coral View Island Resort
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

That was our experience anyway.

Coral View has got the best aspect with two beaches and also a very short walk to the white sandy beach of Perhentian Island Resort. If you want to swim in perfect clear water, lie on powdery white sand or snorkel all day Coral View is the place. Just note that you can't drink alcohol at the restaurant (didn't bother us too much as we're not big drinkers).

Turtles: as mentioned in previous posts 100% chance (too much?) of swimming with turtles if you swim into the deepwater in front of Perhentian Island Resort. Just look out for the sea grass on the bottom and in no time at all you'll see one. You can swim from the beach or from the jetty. Or another good hint is just watch for the snorkel tour boats drop the tourists right on top of them. Magical experience.

We had a garden view deluxe. Far from deluxe but did the job. Also the bungalow's are very dark so you don't feel like spending time in them anyway. You can't complain though - your paying for the paradise of the Perhentians.

Also note that the bungalow's don't come with water boiling facilities and bottled water is not complimentary. There was only one powerpoint in our room so if we come again we'd bring a double adapter. Also wifi is free but you can only access it if you're close to the kitchen.

Which brings me back to the food. Probably my own real gripe with the resort was the inconsistency with dishes. The vegetable and rice dishes were great but the noodles were waterty and our sizzling fish with banana leaf was served with a white, cream sauce (???). Also when ordering my breakfast kaya toast set they only informed me there was no kaya spread when the toast arrived. Kind of essential for the whole dish wouldn't you think?

Anyway staying at Coral View was perfect and if you enjoy good food you're not locked into eating at the resort.

This is a nice resort and they have a very good scuba dive school attached with a great crew of dive instructors. The staff were helpful and genuinely friendly. The room wasn't great though. It was clean and large but the air conditioning unit was quite noisy and the furniture was dated. Also it was quite an uphill trek from the beach to our room but there were lots of other rooms right by the beach. There were monkeys and squirrels in the trees around the resort which added an exotic feel to the place. Service was very good and the food was good.

It's good for family, bad for those who looks into details, and a big no no for solo female traveller. The standard room was located at queit and remote hill side, it might not be safe for girls if you are on your own. I was harassed by one of the staff for 3 times and twice from my neighbour. Not to say unsafe, but you'll definitely not gonna have a peace in mind. The room is over charged, the furniture seems to be as old as me, the tower was torn, no water heater. Very far from cozy with its conservative ambience.

Was here during the Easter holiday in April, a resort with nice ambiance & food. You can just start snorkeling right in front of your rooms/resort, but the rooms was old, air cond not so strong and power trip often occurred.

I went to Perhentian last month and this is my 6th times. I always stay in coral view due to its location. The front beach is suitable for snorkeling especially when travelling with kid, if kids want to play with sand, the beach of perhentian resort is just nearby.
staff are great! room is sutable for family.

highly recommended.

Location is excellent, next to the best beach in the area where you can see plenty of sea turtles. Food in the restaurant is excellent too (we noticed lots of people from nearby hotels coming for lunch and dinner). Staff is also friendly and helpful, so my review about this is also very positive.

Main drawbacks are it seems they have not improved rooms since creation, with noisy air conditioning and very old furnitures. Also I had an accident and they don't even have a first aid kit, and their only solution was to take a boat to the hospital in perhentian kecil. That is very bad from my point of view.

Getting the fast boat and water taxi is all part of the experience at Coral View. On arrival a friendly faced staff member will escort you the few steps from the water taxi to reception and then on to your accommodation. From that point its difficult to do anything other than relax and enjoy the tranquility. All of the staff we came across were helpful beyond what was necessary and courteous at every turn. The accommodation and some of the furnishings in the rooms are showing their age but this detracts only a little from the charm of this lovely little resort. If diving or snorkeling is your desire then you are spoilt for choice with two diving schools and numerous organised snorkeling opportunities within 50 meters of Coral View as well as do it yourself snorkeling less than 20 meters from either of the 2 outdoor dining areas.I'll be back.
