“Worth coming back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2011

Me & family (hubby + 3 kids) stayed here in May 2011. We took a 3d2n package inclusive of a superior room (1 double bed + 1 single), meals, 1 snorkelling trip and return boat transfer from Kuala Besut jetty. The room is spacious & comfortable. I have no complaints except that the lighting is a bit gloomy but that's minor. The service is excellent & the staff are very friendly & helpful. One of our light bulb went out and they were quick to replace it. They have BBQ dinner on alternate nights and it was awesome although the only seafood that was BBQ'ed were squids while the rest are chicken, beef and lamb... But overall the food were nice.
The snorkelling package was also superb. We were brought to 4 snorkelling points among them are turtle point and shark's point. I did manage to see the turtle but didn't manage to see the sharks...
There's a swimming pool which is a plus point from other resorts. You'd think who needs a swimming pool when there is a beach just in front of the resort with crystal clear water, but my kids love it! We would swim in the pool after every trip to the beach... The beach is clean & the water was as clear as tap water...
Location wise, i was told by a friend that the corals at this part of the island are mostly dead, so this might not be the best spot to stay if your intention is to snorkle without having to take a boat trip. I didn't really mind coz with a baby in tow, could't do much snorkelling anyway...
Overall, i would recommend this resort esp to family with young kids for its comfort & facilities.

We stayed here after our agent failed to guarantee our booking at Tuna Bay. We were assured that it was better - mmm not sure. Dropped off by mad high speed boatman from Kota Bahru. Our room was not ready but went to see it for size/location etc - not we had asked for, they do not have interconnecting rooms and it was just a family room with beds for squeezed in. They moved us to a larger suite with its own private balcony and a partial divider between the double and single beds (at our cost, still being negotated with our agent as I write!!). The room was clean but very dark and damp, very dodgey shower with water heater that was rather temperamental and dripped all the time.

The staff were friendly but the food rather institutionalised and I do not recommend half board - there are so many lovely beach restaurants with really good food, just go for a walk and see where everyone else is eating. We found some fabulous places, just plastic chairs and tables in the sand, slow but great food, kids quite happy to just mess on the beach until meals arrived, all very laid back and casual. Fresh fish brought in off boats that day, fabulous Tom Yam Soup but still the basic pizzas or pastas.

The hotel pool was a bonus but we questioned its cleanliness, one of our children did get a gastric bug as did a child in another group, but who know?

Do make sure you do not get rooms near the bar, this quiet hotel is one of the only ones with a bar and after about 9pm the music and loud chatting starts until well after midnight.

The islands are beautiful but I do not think it is worth paying the price for this 'resort' - I think that the cheaper dive centres with huts would be much better value if you just want to enjoy the tranquility of the island without worrying about the frills (that the hotel did not have anyway!!)

We stayed at sea view chalet. Great sea view. Clear water. Great customer Service. Our ice bucket was steal by the group teenagers stayed there and happened because of our carelessness and the staff's help us to get back it. Food was great; nice cafe view. Had great snorkeling. Worth package. Very friendly divers.
Drawback: The room smelled damp, blanket not really dried and and found one cockroach in the bathroom. The water taxi charge double after 7 p.m.; Expensive.
No much activity in the night at coral beach and worse it rained and couldn't go to long beach where everyone said its happening at night.

Comfortable rooms and it's nice some times to have a pool.
Not the best location on the beach, but If I would travel with children I think this is the place to stay.
As usual in malaysia the service can be a little bit slow, but the staff is very nice and helpfull.

This was really the best Holiday i have ever went to and island.Everything was simply so good.U name it from Customer Service to Food and the Servic level s just out of the world.Pricing was also so cheap.i would strongly recommend everyone who have never been to Perhentian islands to visit this place and definately stay at Arwana Perhentian. The package offered was as low as Rm 398 per person for a Full board Holiday which includes Transfers to breakfast to lunch Dinner and also BBQ.Not forgetting 2 beautifull Snorkelling trips arranged by far most the experience people of Arwana. For those of you who loves alchohol there is aso a bar managed so well by a guy name Jim from malacca,a real friendly down to earth guy.I would definately return again as i really feel there is more to discover on that beautifull peacefull island. If anyone of you would like to go there please contact Nasir. He was the person who really went the extra mile to arrange everything for me.he can be contacted at [--].

I didnt actually stay here but walked past it and and through it every day for a 1 week in July, whilst staying just along the beach at Baju Dive Lodge. I don't know where they get the "eco" in the title. What I'd like to alert people to is the exposed sewage outfall pipe on the beach (sand cover washed away) which runs into the bay immediately adjacent to this hotel. I suspect its "only" waste water from soakaways, but at low tide the stench is nauseating. One wonders about the bacteria levels in the bay. I dont think it would any EU Blue Flag Awards.... We walked behind the hotel looking for the begining of the "jungle trek" to other side of island. Past a smouldering pile of rubbish and a heap of dumped trash.

There is a small strip of beach in front of the chalets which form part of the resort, but not one you'd want to lie on. Buts its much nicer just along the beach in front of Samudra Chalets and Bayu Dive Lodge.

The resort itself looks very traditional Malaysian and was pretty dead at night - and i dont think it sells alcohol. I'd not recommend it to a western tourist. Do yourself a favour - stay at Bayu Dive Lodge - basic, but much nicer than here.

I have been visiting Perhentian Island yearly since 1993. Reason: the beaches are world class, crystal clear, all chalets facing beach front. Also great fishing trip provided you get the correct boatman.
First time to Arwana chalet after reading some good reviews on them. Stayed in their Superior Family, 1st floor. Walkway super wide, about 10 feet wide. Rooms very spacious, 2 queen size bed, air-con and most important well maintain and clean. Facing swimming pool, also clear water.
However, beach front is less desirable, especially low tide, rubbish all along the beach and black sediments under the sands is real turn off.
Also there is a stench like smell on one side of the beach front, where there is one sewerage pipe (something like that) going into the sea!!
Service from the restaurant staffs is typical "Malaysian style". Hope the management can improve on this. Example: Dinner buffet is printed on the voucher 7-9.30pm. But by 9 pm, staffs start to clear food! Just finished my food at 9 pm, and quickly requested politely for some agar-agar desert but met with a straight "no more" answer! Next morning breakfast buffet, coffee but no spoon! Requested for spoon, same answer: Don't have and she just walked away! The staffs are genuinely friendly but not helpful at times.
