“Not so great”
Reviewed 15 April 2014 via mobile

I fell in love with a beautifull beachhouse at Senja's. The house was great and quiet, but the rest of Senja's services where terrible. They told me to wait for cleaning before I could check in and after 1,5 hours it still wasn't cleaned. Crazy, because there were at least 5 stafmembers doin nothing in the meanwhile. The restaurant is beatifully located, but the food isn't so great and the music depressing. Not the island feeling I hoped for, although they have everything they need to create it...

I was hesitant about staying on Coral bay as had read that Long Beach was the place to be. How wrong I was. Long beach is a dump and the sea is very dangerous. we almost drowned getting stuck in a strong current there. Coral Bay is by far the best option, it is safer, prettier and all of the cafes and places to stay are close together.

The Senja seems to offer the best accommodation for the price and has a great location at the end of the bay, so a bit out of the way from all the boats that are lined up along the rest of the bay. That said it is very basic so don't expect much. There is also no room service.

The food at the restaurant is good, however the pre-paid breakfast buffet is VERY POOR and very limited. You don't get any of the things on the extended menu like roti, museli, omlette etc and it is overpriced - I think they add about 40 ringgit per person to your room bill. You would be far better off not selecting for this in your package and then paying for breakfast separately.

They also play a movie every night and have guest only sun loungers and a shower on the beach.

Room Tip: Level above the beach huts is cheaper and just as good for views.

This is not a good place to stay in island. The reception staff especialy the lady did not know how to handle the customer and not friendly. The transport to the island is horror. The boat is overloaded and not enough life jacket.

The place is run down, like so many other places we checked on the island. The bathroom is not very appealing (nor very clean). The BBQ is not as tasty as Mama's at the same beach. but you get magnificent views for a decent price (we paid 100 RM per night). From all awful accomodation options on this beautiful islands, it was a fair option in my opinion.

My fiancee and I stayed at Senja Bay in June-July 2013 for a week. The hotel was average - not the best I've stayed in and not the worst.

The problem is what happened last week (8 months after we paid for our room), when the hotel charged the same amount £250 to my account, without my permission or knowledge. I have contacted the hotel numerous times about refunding it and emailed proof that we have been charged twice, and yet we have still not been refunded. Despite them saying they would refund it as soon as I sent the proof....

I would recommend that YOU DO NOT STAY HERE or if you really do want to stay, DO NOT PAY BY DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD, or you may find that they also illegally take money from your account.....

Senja Bay is definitely on the nicer side of the accommodations on Coral Bay. However, for a higher end rate you would expect top end amenities. I can only speak from my experiences in the 3rd level rooms at the very top of the resort with fans. The first room we went into was beautiful until you went into the bathroom. It was disgusting! We asked to move and were instructed over to the other side. This room was better but our fan wasn't working and took about 3 hours for maintenance to come fix it. Another downer was the wifi barely if ever worked. At all other restaurants though it worked. Lastly, there isn't much of an atmosphere there. In the evenings the other restaurants and barbecues are packed and Senja had about 1 or 2 tables. This all being said, the staff were incredibly kind and generous and the view from our room was great. The food we had there was also quite tasty. Hopefully during high season the atmosphere picks up at bit though or else it's lacking the charm of other accommodations on the beach.

Resort rooms are very basic/ not very clean and some bathroom issues/ very good strong AC and location is great / they also take care of the beach in front of the resort, sweeping and cleaning in the early hours/ food basic but ok/ dinner i only went to beach BBQs for the fresh fish, but u need to be careful as some operators are pushing fish that are days old!
