This is not a hotel, but a genuine house, located in a small village, 5km north of Ait Ben Haddou. It's not even located by the main street, so you have to walk trough the unpaved pathways for about 200 meters before reaching it. The owners live here with their families. One of the owners is a painter, and the whole place is beautifully decorated with his works, along with handcrafted traditional carpets. There is also a spa center located in a small building next to the main house, another great experience.
The experience of spending the night here was great! The rooms are large and quite modern (Air conditioning included), the views from the balcony are stunning and the clear sky viewed from a perfect darkness is something to remember.
The owners strive to meet your every need, and breakfast was great.
Left this property with the only regret of not having had more time to spend here.

We landed here by accident - driving on backroads, we needed a place to stay, and were VERY lucky that when we knocked, they happened to have a spot.

This kasbah was started by two entrepreneurial brothers, one a painter an an excellent French speaker, the other an English lit major and excellent English speaker. They have made it a dream location. The floors of the common areas, covered in rugs and Moroccan divans, were lovely and relaxing, and walking barefoot over the rugs through this mud-and-wattle home made it feel as if one really was in a 500 year old kasbah (as this _is_, though rebuilt).

We stayed in a tiny bit more expensive room with a balcony - and it was worth every penny. Absolutely clean and well-furnished. We also spent hours on the balcony, looking out over the town and the beautiful mountains beyond, watching the sun rise and set in the lovely, lovely setting.

The service was amazing. The family that runs the home are lovely. We got to know all of them and doing so was one of the high points of our trip. They were also so attentive - for instance, one day we had asked if we could have mint tea around 6 pm. Not only did they not even think to charge us - but having noticed how much we loved being on the balcony, when we did not come down at the precise moment of 6, one of the women of the house knocked on our door and had brought the tea up to us, thinking that we would love to have it on the balcony.

Our first night there, a whole group of musicians performed in the house. Apparently, a French family staying there had asked for some music - the family danced with us, taught Moroccan dances to the young French boys, and even allowed the French dad to play the drums. It was better music than any we had heard at the Jemaa al Fin in Marrakesh - and apparently the hotel is willing to book this band for any guest who asks, if they are available! We loved it - what a special night.

Last but not least - the food was among the absolute best we had anywhere in Morocco - including Fes and Marrakech. It was SO good that I asked if they had ever considered opening up a cooking school - and apparently, such thoughts are underway. I want to return just to learn Moroccan cooking from these lovely women who make such wonderful food.

We took the long road to this area, rather than up from Ouzarzarte - and the drive was a bit tough going at the beginning, but we made it in a non 4x4 car - and it was the most beautiful landscape of any we had seen in Morocco. We decided to walk around a number of the mud villages en route, just ten minutes from the kasbah du paintre -- and everyone was friendly to us. There were also walking paths marked by blue dots that we had not expected, and made the walks even easier.

I can't say enough positive about Kasbah du Peintre. I already want to go back...

We spent one night in this Kasbah. A few kilometres from Ait ben haddou is located in a small and quiet village. From the kasbah there's a beautiful panorama over the mountains and the river bed. Rooms are clean and spacious. It's plenty of carpets all over the house and you can walk barefoot if you like it. There's a private hammam too. Food is excellent. The owners are ready to help you if you need it. We dind't have enough fuel in our car so they offered to go to the gas station, a few kilometres away, to buy some gasoline! The place is charming and the ancient house very well restored.

This is the most wonderful place to stay!! Gorgeous setting, beautifully furnished and the staff - the best ever!! Ahmed is the most welcoming host- speaks perfect English, is well educated, so is very interesting to talk with. Aziza, his wife, is a terrific masseuse/spa owner in the Kasbah and uses lovely local products. Azdine, Ahmed's brother, is a fabulously talented painter whose work graces the walls of the Kasbah and he gives classes in painting. The meals are yummie too! Once you stay here, you will feel like you're part Moroccan and will never want to leave! Stay here with the Magical Trio and you'll be talking about it for years to come!

Room Tip: Just ask Ahmed!!
