“Beautiful Chefchaouen”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We went to Chefchaouen from Fes by bus for an overnight trip & stayed at the Casa la Palma. Carlos picked us up from Bab Mahrouk & walked us to the guesthouse. We were in Room 5, the one with the purple bedspread. The room was cozy & comfortable with a nice bathroom. They have a nice terrace with views of the mountains. The wi-if was good & everything was very clean. We followed Carlos's directions down to the medina & river - took wrong turns sometimes & got lost but that's half the fun really in wandering around this lovely little blue town. The main square is very charming with the kasbah, restaurants & colourful shops selling local handicrafts. The textiles in this town were so bright & full of colour contrasting against the blue & white walls that one is almost compelled to take multiple snapshots. I liked some pretty cushion covers in the riad & Anna gave me directions to the shop selling them. The owner is the weaver himself & it was really nice to observe him at work.
We had only 1 night there but it was definitely worth visiting such a picturesque town.

We loved Chouaen from the moment our friends sent us sublimely blue pictures. Probably the most picturesque and colorful little town we have ever visited. The contrast between the cool blues and the brilliantly colored textiles and artesanry was striking and hypnotic. I couldn't take enough photos! Even the local woman often wore brilliant blue dresses. Like going to heaven. Ana was extremely helpful from the time I first contacted her, patiently answering any and all of my questions. And it was no problem to arrive one day later, having realized we needed to take an overnight train (fun, cheap, painless) from Marrakesh. We were warmly welcomed and immediately treated to a bowl of cold watermelon. I can't tell you how delicious and refreshing that was! Ana and Carlos connected us with Daniel, of Caiat Refuge, who organized a couple of treks for us. Ana, Carlos, and Daniel shared with us a wealth of information about the local area, their love of the area along with their challenges, and were unfailingly helpful, showing us restaurants, attractions, and even taking us to get a Moroccan phone chip (which didn't pan out because we would need to leave the phone for several days to have it down). We ate two dinners at La Palma and particularly enjoyed Ana's creamy cold carrot soup and Carlos' nutella crepes. Everything was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated with local art.The hotel was not easy to find, even the last night we were here, when we were wandering around in circles and eventually found our way back at 10:30. It is truly a long, steep walk, but I found that kind of fascinating. I would have liked a place to hang our clothes (of which we, of course, brought too many). I found the mattress hard (very much like others in Morocco) but the bedding and pillows were soft, clean, fresh. The best water pressure I experienced in Morocco. Loved the bathroom shower, tile work. Beautiful local handicrafts everywhere I looked. The biggest challenge was the nearly constant noise of the children playing outside our window (we understand this is a June-August problem). We learned to adapt. It was extremely helpful for us to have high-speed internet since we had a day of work to do online. Chefchaouen is so close to Spain and yet it is truly another world entirely.

Room Tip: We were in #3. Lovely but be ready for screaming kids outside your window much of the day June-Augus...

This was our last stay in Morocco, and what a lovely experience it was. As travellers, we have come to the conclusion that what we appreciate in accommodation is the friendliness of the hosts, cleanliness, wifi and proximety to the center. Casa La Palma ticked all of these for us. What makes this place special is Carlos and Ana, they are incredibly nice and caring people. The accommodation is simple, clean and has plenty of hot water. Excellent value for money. And make sure to ask Carlos where to eat, all of his tips were spot on.

Carlos and Ana, who own this tiny guesthouse, are sweet and likable hosts. We were their only guests on our one-night stay, and we appreciated the orientation to the town provided by Carlos, along with the excellent breakfast prepared by Ana. Our room was clean and comfortable. Warmly recommended!

Casa La Palma is Anna and Carlos. While everything about the place is great, the rooms are simple but cozy, the food is fabulous, the water is hot, the roof-top terrace is perfect, what makes this place special are the owners. From the moment we called (last minute) to find a room, until we left three days later at some ungodly hour in the morning (there was Carlos to make sure we got off ok), Anna and Carlos were responsive, generous, and gracious hosts.

If you're looking for the height of luxury, Casa La Palma is not for you. It's not what they strive for, and certainly no what you pay for. Prices are very reasonable and the value is excellent.

Every one of their restaurant recommendations were spot on, so be sure to ask. And when you get tired of Moroccan fare or want a restful night in, they'll be happy to prepare (a delicious) dinner for you at the Casa. And as we left too early to have breakfast on our last day, Anna was kind enough to pack us one to go for the long bus trip.

My husband and I stayed with Ana and Carlos for two nights and they were wonderful hosts. From the time we booked over email, communication was prompt and helpful. They picked up bus tickets for us in advance and Carlos met us at the city gate to walk us to the B&B.

We were the only guests staying there at the time so we had our choice of rooms. We chose room #3. Love the colourful and cozy decor. We moved to room #2 for our second night and liked that room even more! Water was nice and hot in the shower and tap. There are strong space heaters and warm blankets provided for the chilly winter months. There was a toasty fireplace in the common area upstairs, too. Beautiful light fixtures. Lots of books on Morocco, Spanish books and English books to browse through.

The real highlight of our stay was Ana and Carlos themselves. I was sick with an ear infection while I was there and they took real concern for my well being. They were a pleasure to talk to and very kind.

Breakfast was very good - crepes with nutella, scrambled eggs, fruit, bread, juice and tea. Location is very nice but I don't think you can go wrong in this beautiful town! Wifi worked very well. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: Room #2 is quieter than room #3. I stayed in each for one night.

We chose Casa La Palma because if its great reviews on trip advisor, and we were not disappointed. Anna and Carlos were by far the best hosts we had in Morocco. They were incredibly helpful with suggestions about where to go and what to see, and always made us feel at home. We had to leave early on our last day to catch a bus, and they prepared a delicious picnic breakfast for us take on our journey.
