“The Heart of Medina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

Pension Souika is just a stone's throw away from Medina, located in the narrow street of enchanting Chefchaouen with many great shops offering all sorts of merchandise. Rooms are nice and cosy, some of the staff friendly, talkative and eager to please. The hostel is great value for money, very popular with young people. It is pretty clean, with all the facilities, nice roof terrace. One disadvantage is only one bathroom per floor and not particularly clean, but considering the rest, it most certainly is the place to be recommended. Enjoy your stay!

The hotel is located in a town centre, in the centre of beautiful medina. The room we slept in was comfortable and cosy. The staff speaks good English. It feels like in hostel, cause many young people stay there. The disadvantage is that there's only 1 bathroom for 1 floor and it's quite small and not so clean.

I had a brilliant experience at Penstion Souika. There's something about Chefchaouen that is just magical, probably helps that everywhere is blue...

Anyways!! This hostel is lovely, great value, very quirky. I paid the extra euro for a bed in a dorm as opposed to matress on the roof, though they didn't look to shabby either! Everything was very clean- though the showers can be a bit tempremental. The location is spot on, and the hostel has all the facilities you really need- a good kitchen, a few good communal areas and also a nice roof terrace...

Has to be said though SOME OF the staff can be a bit nippy, a bit of a let down! Would reccommend nevertheless :)

Chefchauouen is an enchanting and beautiful place and I would 100% recommend going there. I came to hostel Souika cause I was on a shoestring and was in the mood for meeting some other travellers. I paid 40DHS (4 euros) for a bed on the terrace, and did as I intended. It is a nice hostel apart from the people that run it who are infuriatingly rude, lazy and unhelpful. When I checked out I paid for the 2 nights I'd stayed and they'd charged me for 2 bottles of water that I didn't drink (I think they assume everyone in the hostel is getting high off kif and won't notice if they charge an extra water here and there). When I challenged them about the water they got aggressive and rude towards me and accused me of stealing from them. I would advise going to the hostel next door to the souika hostel.. Much nicer people!!!!

Happy travellin'!!

I started my trip around Morocco in Marakesh and I really wasn't keen on it because of all the hassle and noise etc. Chefchaouen generally was such a welcome break and Souika was brilliant. You can sleep on the roof terrace for about 40 or 50 Dirhams which makes it incredibly cheap and the terrace is really lovely and has a great view. The staff were friendly and so were all the people I met there. Souika's a great place to meet people and then continue travelling with them as it seems most people are on the same sort of wavelength.

The only downside is that once people have gone to sleep there isn't really anywhere to sit and chat because you feel like you'll wake people up. Other than that though the hostel is pretty much perfect, clean, quiet, fun and in a good location. I'll definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: definitely choose the roof terrace in the summer, the rooms get way too hot and the roof terrace is...

If your just looking for the cheapest place in town it's good value at 40DH for a bed on the terrace, wifi and some stinky toilets. Often some hash dealers hang around the entrance because they know the kind of people who lodge there but they are no trouble

Very cheap and very noisy. Friendly staff. One toilet and shower per floor (about 20+ persons). This hostel (neither hotel nor pensione) is very close to the main square and a good location from which to explore the haunting blue hillside town's alleyways.
