There is the Medina which is the old city and also the new city. All the charme of Chefchaouen is in the old town: Medina

If you are going to Chef, you will definitely wind up in the medina. In my opinion, Chefchaouen has the best rugs in Morocco (and maybe the cheapest as well).

Excellent shopping in the medina,
people are friendly and helpfull, highlights include a soap shop with hand made lotions ad potions piled high, as if it were something out of Harry Potter

When I was in Chefchaouen it was very busy with place filled with tourists. Even so, inside the medina was still a relaxing and magical experience. The food that is on offer is world class and cheap. Ofcourse grab yourself a fresh orange juice from one of the many vendors. I didn't find there to be any hassle from the locals. If you're in Chefchaouen you must visit the medina, it's blue walls are enough to amaze and inspire.
