“Great place to stay”

This is a great place to stay in Chefchaouen which itself is an incredible town and well worth a visit.

The hotel was close to town and the rooms were clean with great decor and facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had new years eve here and were made very welcome and had a great night.

Highly recommend this dar for accommodation in Chefchaouen

We chose this hotel because of the reviews, pictures and price, however, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The food was decent and the staff were generally helpful but the room was subpar and the bathroom let off a terrible smell that we were told was due to the construction going on next door. Whatever the cause, it made our stay very uncomfortable and I'm just grateful we only stayed the one night!

Also, Mohammed who works at the hotel is not the most trustworthy of people so if he offers to pick you up something or do you a favor I suggest you look for help elsewhere.

Hello,

Thank you for your stay and your comments, but normally once you have found a problem in your stay, you should first ask the reception or the administration to find you the solution and do not lie to the people, and try to be honest.
the construction that was next to us is beyond our responsibility.

Thank you,

I have stayed at dar chaouen a couple of times but my stay in December 2010 was the best since I opted for a suite. American travelers will appreciate the size of the suites, good water pressure and hot water, and cleanliness. Of course, the staff is tremendously helpful in every respect. I know that I will be in Chaouen again in the future and I will always use dar chaouen and recommend it to others.

Pros: friendly staff who upgraded us to a suite (when we only booked a double room) free of charge. The suite was huge, a big bedroom with a large lounge room. The decor was a bit dated and could have done with a makeover but it was clean. Great pool area (possibly the only pool in Chefchaouen) and lovely grounds for kids to play in.
Cons: location is a bit out of the way - just outside of the medina. Most of the restaurants are around the main square in the medina, about a 10min walk. The walk is ok during the day but after dark there isn't much lighting and it gets really quiet. There is a restaurant onsite of decent quality but it is much more expensive than in the medina.
Overall, would highly recommend to families and those who want space.

This place is an absolute gem, and complete luxury for the price. Room was beautiful, very clean and comfortable with lovely decoration in a local style, with great views over the complex and the town. Fresh water pool very clean and lovely to swim in. True - there were problems getting hot water a couple of times, but in August this is not really a problem as you're looking to cool off anyway. Breakfasts delicious - freshly squeezed juice, super strong coffee and fantastic selection of olives, cheese, mountain butter and honey, jams and breads - worth eating every bite of! You won't be hungry again til sundown. Staff very friendly, helpful and great source of local information. We were made to feel very welcome. The attention to detail to the surroundings (the carpeted tent by the pool is a particularly nice addition - especially for those with strong sun fatigue) and concern that your stay is enjoyable as possible is a very special feature of this hotel, as is the set up, which, owned by locals, seems to ensure that tourist money is pumped back into Chaouen's economy.
The town itself has to be one of the most beautiful I have ever visited - its famous blue washed walls really help to take the brightness off the sun and keeps the warren of narrow medina streets relatively cool. Local hammam near Ras el Mar lovely but watch out for a very strong massage!! "Shwoy shwoy" might need to be said!
Can't really recommend this hotel and place enough. Only real complaint was that we could only stay for five nights - we would have loved to have been there 5 more!

We stayed here for 1 night in a suite as the standard rooms were sold out. The big attraction was the swimming pool as we had stayed for 2 nights in a Riad in the Medina and being August it was incredibly hot. So the opportunity to take a dip was very welcome.

Over all the suite was very nice. Being the last one it lacked a bit of character, but certainly can't complain. The hotel staff were excellent and spoke very good English, French and Spanish. The room was clean. In terms of location it is just outside the Medina, but it is a pleasant 10 minute walk to the centre. The breakfast was good and lunch was reasonable (we struggled to find any amazing food in Chefchaouen but no doubt there must be some). Our previous Riad - Dar Gabriel was probably the best.

The big selling point is the pool and the views from here over the mountains and the town. They are stunning. Also the pool is only open to guests so it isn't very busy.

The one concern for me would be what looks like the hotel/riad they are building in front of this hotel and whether this will impede the views from the rooms over the towns and mountains. I think from the pool it will be clear but it is impossible to say how high the riad in front was going to be built. The work taking place wasn't really a disruption in terms of noise and no doubt when it is finished it'll look a lot nicer than it does now but it is something to bear in mind (though for us the pool more than compensated for this).

Would I go back - yes. And I would recommend it to stay in - definitely.
