My friend and I returned to Auberge Takojt in March, a year after our first visit, with high expectations - and we were not disappointed. The hotel's welcoming exterior beckoned to us like open arms, and once inside we quickly settled in to familiar, comfortable surroundings. The hotel's owner, Mobarek, is personally invested in the quality of every guest's experience, no matter what brings them to the desert; to know this young man is to like him unreservedly. Our days were spent looking for birds and other wildlife in the Erg Chebbi dunes and surrounding desert, and in the lush and colorful palmeries; finding souvenirs and having cafe au lait in the fascinating shops of Merzouga; looking for fossils and other treasures in what remains of an ancient sea bed; four-wheeling through the dunes in search of the perfect sunset; relaxing in the hotel's serene patio or "tea tent"; and eagerly dining on the delicious dishes expertly prepared and beautifully presented by the amiable kitchen staff (our favorites were the delectable homemade breakfast pastries, the perfectly spiced tagines, the artfully arranged fruit plates and the aromatic sweet mint tea).
To add to all of that there was a big surprise this year, too: a stunning bivouac encampment out in the dunes, built into the limbs of a massive tamarisk tree, a testament to Mobarek's visionary genius. One must experience this wonderfully crafted hideaway in order to fully appreciate it. Beneath the tree's spreading canopy one can relax comfortably on generous cushions that serve also as dining seats, or spend time in the "lounge" listening to music, or retire to comfortable sleeping quarters that come complete with running water, showers, and functional toilets (solar panels to heat the water, obtained from a well, are planned). There is a kitchen tent where sumptuous meals are prepared, and an area for an open fire that just begs a party. I'm convinced that the stars are brighter here than from anywhere else on earth. We were enchanted by our experiences here; the memories will last a lifetime, and beseech yet another return trip - to Mobarek and his gracious family, to Takojt, to the beautiful red dunes in the desert.

We met many wonferful people during our stay in Morocco but Marie and her staff were by far among the very best. The auberge itself is lovely but the real treat of our trip was spending the night in the auberge's private camp in a tree amid the dunes. The food was wonderful and the full moon and stars at night were breathtaking. When we returned to the auberge the following morning, a huge breakfast awaited us. Marie was also very helpful in matching us with an excellent driver who continued with us onto our trip to Fes.

Thanks to help from Marie, Amed, Mustafa, and Mobarek, we loved our time in the dunes and in Merzouga!

Merci à toute l'équipe de l'Auberge Takojt!

we went to the sahara and we booked a night in the desert whit Takojt and it was excelent. After driving 9 hours, because we were following the speed limit we arrive to the hotel and took the camel ride to the desert. The food was good and they make a fire under the start, we sleep very good we were not cold at all even though we went in the winter. Next morning we woke up to see the sunride and then back to the hotel.
The breakfast at the hotel was just perfect actually it was the best food we had in hole marroco. The shower and the rooms looks really nice but we didnt stay there because we didnt have time.
Mobarak spoke english which is a huge advantge.. he was very very friendly and honest.
The only min punt and we are not 100% sure is that some one took fuel from our car... we had to tank before leaving because the tank was empty and we usually never let the tank go that down... I am not sure what happend and maybe you can show mobarak how much fuel you have so he will make sure no one take advantage of you...

Definitly a must do in marroco!!!

Stayed here as part of our tour across Sahara and Atlas in Sept 13. The place is rustic, clean and charming, reflecting the life in the desert. Great service - very attentive, pleasant, friendly and kind. Great terrace with amazing views of the dessert - we ended up sleeping in the terrace instead!!

I was the only guest during my stay here so had the run of the place - the owner, Mobarek, showed me round personally and made me feel very at home. A lovely hotel with views that have to be seen to be believed - I could have sat on the terrace and stared out at the dunes all day! But then I would have missed out on quad biking in the dunes at sunset, a superb 4x4 trip around the 'black desert' (so many fossils!) and the classic dromedary ride into the dunes overnight - the stars, wow... The food was great and everybody from the owner down to the 'chamaulier' and the waiter was extremely friendly and welcoming - in summary, a superb experience in an unforgettable location!

Our group of five women was warmly welcomed to this very comfortable, fun and relaxing desert paradise. After the hustle and bustle of Morocco's famed Medinas, we were more than ready for the peaceful beauty of the Erg Chebbi dunes and the comfort and personal service afforded by Tegojt and its people.
And we got even more than that:
Camel rides into the sunset, a night under the stars in a desert tent, the best food anywhere, and evenings filled with music and laughter. If you are going to Morocco, include a stay at Tegojt; you will only want to go back again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Auberge Takojt for a two night desert excursion. The first night we spent in the hotel and the second out in the desert in a Berber tent. The entire experience was perfect from start to finish. When we arrived, our bus had broken down along the way from Marrakech so we were five hours late. Mobarek was there to pick us up even though it was nearly 2am! He was very friendly and so accommodating the whole time as were the rest of the staff. Ibrahim who took us into the desert on camels was awesome. He and his friends at the camp provided some after-dinner entertainment in the way of various percussion instruments- so great! I can't say enough here about how helpful and friendly everyone was. The location was brilliant and the facilities were clean and all in perfect working order. The food was excellent as well. I recommend this trip to anyone who is looking for some adventure and the chance to meet some amazing individuals. Loved it!!!
