“Faulty Towers of the Sahara”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2013

The staff try very hard indeed. They were most gracious. We had mint tea (accompanied by unpeeled peanuts and popcorn) twice with the owner in the first 5 hours after we checked in. The room had no amenities save a pump bottle of hand soap; eventually four tiny 1"x1/2"x1/8" bars. Our 'suite' had an extra bed, no sofa or chair, save a small round table with chairs for preschoolers. There were beautiful saffron coverlets on the beds, Berber rugs on the floor, and stars and crescents painted on the wall (more Marin circa 1968) than tribal in feeling. There was heavy construction outside the room working on a future swimming pool. The manager arranged for us to swim nearby in an over-chlorinated pool in a completed deserted kasbah hotel nearby, There appeared to be about 25 similar properties in the immediate area, all equally low on guests. A travelling seminar from the Cornell School of Hotel Management? The saving grace was a drop dead view of the Erg Chebbi giant Sahara dunes. (We were, in fact, saved from that grace by a ferocious day time sandstorm that obliterated the view.) Also the hotel has two ten story cell phone towers on top--if you avoid such things--but great if you want to use MorocTel during a sandstorm.)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view of the dunes--though the rooms have tiny windows due to the sand and...

Abdul and his brothers made us feel very welcome. Mint tea, a chat and an understanding of the Sahara and activities to do, created straightaway a "feel" for the place .
Location is perfect with the view over the Dunes. We departed on camels from the kashbah and all was taken care of in a easy and natural way. It felt like we had done it many times. ,!!
We booked for three nights, but were only charged two nights as we stayed overnight in a Berber tent in the Sahara. A must do.. Ok, bottom is a bit sensitive, but all worth the experience, including the wonderful "silence" of the desert.
Room was comfortable. Traditional carpet, bedspreads. A warm douche and good toilet.
For the price it's a gem. We realize when the pool is finished the word will be out , to enjoy this kashbah to the full . Breakfast buffet had all you wished for. Thank you..

The place is absolutely fantastic! We have spent unfortunately just 2 night, which is quite not enough when you want to enjoy Berber atmosphere with fantastic people - with two brothers who take care about everything you need!
Acomodation - clean, typical mud house, jacuzzi and swimming pool with amazing dunes view is just made!
Food - typical Berber tasty food, that we really liked
Definitely this is the place in Marocco where we will come back and where we met most friendly people in our 15days tour in Marocco.

Room Tip: Every room is different but each really comfortable, clean,AC

The area is just fantastic and the kasbah is just in front of the dunes and you can easily walk up there.
The kasbah is very confortable. I read somebody complaning about the sand in the room, maybe they did not realize they were in the desert where they use to say where the water enter also the sand does.
The owner (Jussef) is a very nice guy He likes speding time with the guests. We stayed overnight and we had no intention to ride a camel, he just proposed us to do so but when we said we were not interested he did not insist.
Breakfast and dinner nothing special but I would not get out for dinner to be bothered by the tenths of guys trying to bring you to their kasbah or restaurant where they are granted a commission.
I would reccomend this place.

Room Tip: All rooms are in the same conditions with the desert front view.

My boyfriend and I travelled here a couple of weeks ago on a trip through Morocco and this was definitely one of the highlights.
Fantastic value for money the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was the best we had on our visit and the evening meals were delicious.
Super helpful nothing is too much for the staff we were really made to feel at home and comfortable. Morocco can be a stressful manic place to travel but here we felt we could really relax.
We also spent a night in the desert at the Kasbahs campsite and it was one of the most incredible experiences and the best night sleep Ive ever had, it really was magical watching the sunset and the sun rise over the desert.
We searched a lot for a compnay that offered such an experience but we really felt happy with our choice and the value for money was incredible.

Highly highly recommended

Room Tip: Merzouga is a dry area so if you like a glass of wine take it with you and a bottle opener!!

Absolutely massive rooms in a stunning complex built right on the dune line, with bucket loads of character and filled with Moroccan handicrafts. The hotel is a very short drive off the main road and very easily reached in a small sedan. From the hotel, it's literally a 5 minute walk to the start of the dunes and 20 minutes until you're deep in the desert. We visited during a relatively quiet time and frequently felt the solitude of the desert that we were hoping for. Breakfasts were amongst the best we've had in Morocco and can be enjoyed on the roof-top terrace overlooking the dunes. Half-board option is highly recommended and the guys put together a vegetarian kefte that was amongst the best meals we've had in Morocco. Extremely friendly and helpful staff who are always ready with a smile and an offer of more (of anything). Even when we accidentally took the room key with us to the next destination, the guys were not interested in accepting any payment for the inconvenience caused by our mistake. We also spent a night in the desert organised through the hotel and would highly recommend it. Camp facilities are above the standard we expected.

I stayed here for two nights with my partner.
I can tell you that this is a beautiful Kasbah, the service is superb, and the location is perfect.
We went on a 4x4 trip and visited several locations such as seeing fossils, a nomad family that offered us some tea and homemade bread, oasis, dromedaries (camels), to several locations for great views.
The hotel room is very close by the dune, so the views are the best I've seen in a while.
