“Great base for night in Desert”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

We spent night in their desert camp. A memorable experience. Very well organised, we went out on camel, explored the dunes, lovely evening meal. Tents are spacious and with good beds and there is a proper toilet. Its very cold in the desert so take a few warm undergarment. Returned in the morning to a great breakfast on the terrace.

Room Tip: Go for the night in the desert - a memorable experience!

A very clean, calm hotel with beautifully decorated.
Upon our arrival we were given a tour of the Kasbah and facilities.
Our room was incredibly spacious with a separate sitting room lots of space. We were situated on the courtyard where the pool is a little set back to give privacy as it was quiet we had the choice of so many places to sit and take in the lovely building.
Breakfast and lunch could be eaten almost anyway to enlighten your enjoyment, dinner was in the restaurant. The food was of an excellent standard, as was the service.

Room Tip: Let the Kasbah arrange a 4 x 4 morning trip for you it is excellent value and you see far more than...

We had a great stay and it was so peaceful compared to the more hectic pace of Fes where we had just come from. Rooms were very comfortable and warm as it was February. We were given a choice of two and chose a family style (with a sitting room) one as it was right off the pool. The pool was very tranquil and inviting and a great place to relax. The outdoor spaces are beautiful and we had lunch out there. The waiters were extremely gracious and had awesome smiles. The food was amongst the best we had in our 10 day trip. We were accomodated for a late lunch with Berber eggs, cooked in a tagine of course! Breakfast was a bountiful buffet and we felt like we were often treated to little extras like a little yogurt at the end of our meal. The whole place is very comfortable and the dunes and the camel paddock are right down from the front door so you can go exploring as soon as you check in. I was particulary taken with the camels! We stayed one night and then the next morning did the 4 x 4 tour with a very nice driver who spoke English and was very accomodating. It was interesting to see some more of the surrounding area although at each stop you will probably be approached by some children, out of nowhere, selling stone products and fossils. Be aware that the beautiful gleaming broken open rocks are often painted to get those amazing colors. That night we did the camel ride and deep desert camp. It was beautiful and peaceful as expected. Once we got to camp there wasn't much interaction with the staff. They provided some mint tea and nuts, we walked around until the sun set. Dinner was served in a warm tent and that was it. I thought there might be drums and a fire but not on that night. It was cold and a bit windy and cloudy so we did some star gazing and what we saw was spectacular and we did get up a few times during the night to catch another glimpse. We were warm enough with 6 blankets. The camel wrangler was accomodating as we wanted to get an early start back to the hotel. The hotel provided us with a room to take a shower which worked out very well, we had another nice breakfast and then continued on our journey. Overall very nice place, if you had an extra day and just wanted to chill this would also be a nice place to do so. They also have beer. Very nice staff, just be sure to ask specific questions about what you want and when it will happen. Also as noted there is only wifi in the area off the main reception desk and it can be cold.

The Kasbah Mohayut is strategically located right at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We spent one night in the hotel, then the next in the desert at their bivouac.

The hotel is charming. Common areas are characteristically decorated; lanterns light the hallways to the rooms. Rooms are spartan, but spacious. Some have private terraces from which you can catch a glimpse of the dunes. Have your breakfast on the common area terrace for views of the dunes as you sip your tea.

We were there in February so the hotel was not full. When we spent the night on the desert, we left all our baggage in the room and returned the following morning to shower and change before getting back on the road. Not sure if this is common practice in the high season.

In addition to our stay on the desert, we also booked a 4x4 tour through the hotel. Our guide was fluent in English and extremely knowledgeable of the history, geography and political issues of the day. It was a great trip.

Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed three nights here and enjoyed great hospitality. Our room was clean and large with a separate sitting area with fridge. The bathroom large and complete with a family sized shower! The air conditioning unit could also heat to some extent. When asked the hotel provided a second heater.(the nights in February were very cold). There were plenty of blankets in addition to the duvet.
The hotel is attractively styled in that of a traditional Moroccan kasbah with loads of comfortable quiet sitting areas including around the pool.
Dinner and breakfast were good. I asked for my salad without oil and the waiter remembered and brought me all courses during our stay with a flourish and "without oil". Dinner is more or less a fixed menu but was agreeable to me as a bit of a fussy eater. Good choice at the self service breakfast.
One of the hotel owner's family discussed our plans whilst we enjoyed the mint tea on arrival. He was pleasantly not pushy and told us what we could do. We arrived in our self drive 4x4 and a guide took us on a five hour tour. I would recommend a guide who knows the sandy tracks on the edge of the dunes as a wrong turn could take you into deep sand very easily.
The sand dune start less than 100 meters from the hotel and we were able to walk for dawn and dusk photography. However the hotels has camels and arranged an evening photo ride for us. This was about one hour each way and got us away from the intrusion of the quad bikes and 4x4's. I can only describe the desert at sunset as beautiful even if I had a sore bum next day!
Great stay, very comfortable with a warm welcome.

Chose this hotel from the many on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes of the Sahara for my wife's birthday & we were very pleased. The hotel is arranged around tranquil courtyards containing the pool & gardens with birdsong everywhere. Our welcome mint tea was served in a lofty atrium with trickling fountain & comfortable chairs. The room, built to withstand the searing summer heat, was cool but brightly decorated with A/C, fridge & ensuite bathroom (loved the quirky tin kettle & pot used as light shades). Upstairs a roof terrace set with tables & chairs offered uninterrupted views of the orange dunes, which change colour with the light. At night the spectacular clarity of the sky takes centre stage.
Meals are tasty, traditional Moroccan fare prepared in-house & are served by the ever-smiling staff. The team are also able to assist with tours & suggestions for the local area. On my wife's birthday she was delighted to receive a delicious & unexpected cake prepared by the staff.
We would definitely recommend the Mohayut to anyone visiting the otherworldly splendour of the Saharan dunes.

We just stayed two nights at kasbah mohayut and it was a great time! We arrive late from Marrakech by bus and they were right on time to pick us up. Despite it being late, they made us a delicious dinner (one of my favorites during the trip). The room was spacious, clean and very quiet. Overall a very comfortable room. We did a night in the Sahara desert which was amazing! Our guide spoke English which was nice. Got to watch sunset and sunrise! The campsite was very nice with individual tents and plenty of blankets to stay warm. The dinner was good as well. There isn't much to do in merzouga besides see the desert. We also had to pay with cash as card machine was not working. The staff were so friendly and we would go back!
