“EcoLodge in the middle of a town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

Having the want to experience Peru in a more leisurely fashion, Pentagrama Tours set up a fabulous 10 day land excursion. One of the many highlights was a 2 night stay @ the Inkaterra Lodge in Agua Calientes, Peru. No TV or radio didn't phase us a bit. The rooms were clean & comfortable w/a sitting area that made you appear to be right in the middle of the trees. Watching all the birds coming in to feed was a great experience. The food was excellent & we had no need to leave the lodge. Or, the walk to town was maybe 10 min. I wish we could've stayed another night. So very, very relaxing.

Room Tip: Rooms farther away from the front desk were quieter, but any of them would be nice.

A wonderful place of rest where we spent two evenings following our visits to Machu Picchu. Our room was in the rear of the grounds and absolutely quiet with a beautiful view of the mountains outside our window.
The railroad adjacent to the property added to the visual memories of the place & the restaurant had excellent dinners. The front desk & restaurant staff were uniformly courteous and helpful. I enjoyed quiet time by the pool on the grounds & the birds which made this place their home (never did see a bear though).
It was hard to believe we were so close to such a busy tourist location.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Machu Picchu visit. I cannot think of a thing to change. The grounds are beautiful. The staff courteous and helpful. Our basic room was cozy and romantic with a kiva type fireplace. The restaurant dinners were some of the best of our trip.
The price per night is a bit high but well worth the splurge. Location makes it an easy walk to the train station and bus stop to Machu Picchu.

Friend and I stayed here, we weren't to sure what to expect while walking past the train station but to our surprise WOW
Such a spectacular place hidden from everything else. I recommend this awesome hotel to everyone. Bird watching was the best we had seen on our 5 1/2 week trip through south america, costa rica and Mexico all in the comfort of our hotel. We also got to see the adorable special bear. Such an amazing place with so much to offer! Staff were wonderful and very welcoming and the food was delicious. 5 star rating, get on it people you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for one night at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. It was very nice and we enjoyed our stay, but we had a few issues with the hotel. The property is somewhat rustic in a luxury sort of way and it seemed to fit in with the whole Machu Picchu experience. Our room was charming, but we thought it smelled musty. It may have been because the previous people used the fireplace in the room, but I don't think so. It just smelled slightly damp and we found that hard to get over. Another thing we noticed was the pool area. One of our traveling companions mentioned going for a swim before dinner. We walked down to the pool and found it filled with leaves. It looked as if hadn't been cleaned in days. Needless to say, we didn't use the pool. There were a number of things we did like about the hotel including the food ( breakfast and dinner were very good), the service ( everyone was pleasant and helpful) and the location ( convenient to the train station). After leaving Machu Picchu we met others who had visited the area. After hearing their comments about the hotels they has stayed in, I think the Inkaterra was the best hotel choice. All in all, we were happy we had chosen the Inkaterra and would recommend it to others.

What a place to arrive at when you are feeling exhausted from walking around the ruins of Macchu Picchu.
Your first thought is 'how can there be a peaceful sanctuary so close to a very busy train station that is discorging hundreds of people every hour?
There is no visible sign of a hotel, just the sound of spring water gushing everywhere. The mystery continues as you wend your way up steps and pathways surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, it reminded me very much of being at a typical hotel in Bali, Indonesia.
The check-in desk is unusual, semi-open air under a thatched roof.
We were taken to our room along a windy path surrounded by lush vegetation and pretty waterfalls. Our bungalow was breathtakingly lovely, it had an open log fire which you can have lit for you by staff, rustic heavily carved furniture, rugs and blankets. The bathroom is very unusual with windows up at tree level, lots of nice Eco-friendly toiletries and a luxurious rain shower which delivers pure Spring water. You even get a professional hairdryer.
The bed is huge and melts away every ache and pain. Lovely fresh clean bed linen and stylish throw on top.
We got up at 6.30 in the morning to join the bird walk, which was led by an expert guide. We saw 26 different species of bird including 4 types of Hummingbird!
Hummingbird feeders are situated everywhere and you can stand at arms length from them.
We had dinner in the main restaurant and I was disappointed at the poor communication skills of the waiters. Breakfast in the morning was a big let down starting with the coffee which tasted awful, like it had been watered down. I couldn't believe it. The fresh fruit had no taste, the bread was stale and inedible and worst of all there was no hot food. Of all the hotels we stayed at in Peru this was the worst breakfast and most basic. The waiters are useless and never cleared our plates even though I pushed them all to the edge of the table, eventually I had to ask them to do it!
I returned to my table to find the waiter removing the tablecloth, so ended a very disappointing breakfast.
There are lots of areas for relaxing in with irresistible chairs, rustic nooks and crannies and my most favourite is the meditation hut by the pool. It is thatched inside with Eucalyptus leaves which smells divine and there are big candles you can light while you sit on a low wooden seat in the dark.
I would have given this hotel full marks but the breakfast buffet really let's it down badly. Also staff need to improve their English.

The only problem with this hotel is that we didn't stay there long enough! Just one night was not enough as the room and grounds were beautiful. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good and the breakfast was excellent too. The location is great, right on the edge of the town and because the grounds are so large and the rooms are in a villa style, it's very quiet. Make sure you stay at least 2 nights.
