We arrived into Aqua Calientes, got off the train and walked a short distance to our hotel. This little town is a wild place. It sits as the jump off point to Machu Picchu. End of the line for all tourists, and all things Machu Picchu. It is built at the bottom of a steep gorge on the side with a raging river flowing through the middle. As you walk up to the hotel, you pass a traffic jam of trinkets and tourist novelties. Cross the little man bridge and up a cobbled stone walkway to our hotel. This little gem was a great find. We liked everything about it. The staff were helpful and friendly, the room was great and modern. Very clean and one of the most comfortable beds that we had in Peru. The WiFi was good. They included breakfast which worked for me. We left our main bags at the hotel for safe keeping while we went to Machu Picchu, not a problem. All in all, we highly recommend it.

I'm still not quite sure what we were expecting, but this place blew our expectations out of the water. The room was luxury incarnate. Large soft beds settled in a room so big that there was a neat little coffee table and two chairs where we could settle after a long day of hiking and marvel at our generous luck. I loved to wake up early and grab some coffee downstairs for some quiet moments on the small balcony. Everything felt rich. Listening to the rain on the patchwork tin roofs. Luxuriating in the waterfall of high pressure hot water from the shower. Dodging across the tiny avenue to drop off our laundry or pick up a cold Cerveza. I really loved this place.
And all of that is not the best part. The staff was, well, I might write them into my will. They personified everything that is exemplary customer service. From helping us decide what route to take up Machu Picchu to gifting us with good luck owls when we checked out. They packed lunches for our hikes and brought us warm milk for our coffee. They always had a smile even when our deplorable Spanish must have evoked a well hidden grimace. It didn't matter. Their English was excellent but they went out of their way to help us improve our language skills. These people are the best of what this amazing historical adventure has to offer.
Yes, this hotel is located at the top of the hill. I would walk twice the distance for a place this comfortable and welcoming.
This is the first review I have ever written. I mean that much to me. Thanks La Cabana Machupicchu!!

What a great place this was. Staff was kind and our room was perfect. Very comfortable, clean and right in the centre of town and not noisy regardless of its location. Our room was big too! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay near Machu Picchu. It was only a 30 minute bus ride from there. Right near the train station too. You can't get any closer to Machu Pichhu other than booking right at Machu Picchu which I would think would be quite noisy, busy and costly. We would return here no problem. Great value for your money. Near the thermal baths too. There are so many little restaurants right next to the hotel too that it is easy to go anywhere for all 3 meals or just have your breakfast at the hotel. Highly recommend it!

Hotel is very average.. quite a walk up a hill and far from the Machu Pichhu bus stand; rooms are tiny with not much space to walk round the bed; after a full day of hiking all you want is a hot shower and unfortunately we didnt get hot water in the evening or the morning after. Breakfast was pretty decent. I would look at other better rated hotels in the future.

The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. It is a good hike up the street, I think in a fantastic location. Far enough up the street for a good walk after eating at the many restaurants. Also away from most of the tourists since many people didn't want to walk that much. The advantage to that was getting to know the locals better! The hot springs are just a couple of minutes up the street. We spent Christmas Eve night there and the town had fireworks past midnight!

Great place to stay, our room was clean and comfortable. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the city. From the time we got there the staff was friendly and helpful. We were upgraded the second night into a bigger room for free. It was also in a great location, I highly recommend you stay here if you wanna stay in Aguas Caliente.

The hotel is very cute an quaint, well priced, and has very friendly and attentive staff. However, it's far from the center of Aguas Calientes - about a half mile up a hill from the busses to Machu Picchu (pretty much on the opposite end of this tiny town). This is not much of an inconvenience. It's about a 10 minute walk at a leisurely pace. It's also close to the hot springs (which are basically just a bunch of public hot tubs, don't bother with them). The hotel is also very noisy, with an open cabin style architecture that allows you to hear everything your neighbors are doing. Our neighbors were a frisky couple up at all hours making quite a raucous. Fortunately, we are heavy sleepers. Anyhow, despite its shortcomings, it's a very nice little hotel. If you own earplugs and like walking (you ought to if you're visiting MP!) give them a shot!
