The hotel was clean and on the main street of town, which was nice. The breakfast was below average but, the rest of the hotel was nice. The hotel does have some odd features about it. For one, the bathrooms all have windows that open up into the main hall. Also, the rooms are all next to a large staircase or courtyard so it can be a little noisy. The internet was hit or miss but, worked the majority of the time. Overall, the hotel did its job and allowed us to see Machu Picchu. It just did not blow me away.

La Cabana is actually quite a good three star hotel. The rooms were well presented and very clean and the rates were quite reasonable.

There were a few quirky things about the hotel which made our stay quite interesting.

The staircase is in a large open area in the centre of the hotel with some of the bedroom and bathroom windows opening onto it. It was quite disconcerting to be sitting on the loo up on the 4th floor and be able to hear conversations going on at the front reception desk!

The bathroom itself was quite pokey and to fit the toilet roll holder in they had put it tucked away into a corner at head height making it quite a challenge to reach :)

The hotel is right in the middle of town so you do get a bit of noise. There are no vehicles that far up the hill so it is mainly dogs barking and I am sure I heard the occasional chicken clucking.

It may have been free but unfortunately the internet was frustratingly irregular. I would say 9 out of 10 attempts to login were unsuccessful.

Overall, our stay was quite pleasant and the hotel staff were very helpful.

We stayed here for one night last September, piror to an early start in the morning for our trip to Machu Picchu.

We stayed in a junior suite which we booked for about $180 (£120) for the night. While there was nothing wrong with the room, we didn't feel that it was particularly good value for money, especially with quite basic bathroom facilities.

However, the staff were very attentive and were kind enough to make us a packed lunch for our 4.30am start in the morning which didn't go unnoticed! The location is also good, right off the main street in Aguas Calientes, although nearer the top of the hill so not so great if you're a bit older or don't fancy the walk (it was fine for us though).

So while there was nothing particularly wrong with the hotel, nothing much stood out either apart from the service.

Best thing to do is to start out from Cusco early morning, get to Machu Picchu in 4 hours, spend several hours and return by 5:27 PM train back to Cusco. We stayed here overnight. The hotel is pricier just ok. The food is average. There is nothing special about this hotel other than it happens to be in Aguas Calientes.
The room was very small with a small bathroom.

Stayed at La Cabana in Aguas Caliente as part of our excursion to Machu Picchu and had an excellent stay. The room was clean and comfortable and quiet. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and the hotel staff from the bellman to Management was very accommodating and helpful. Even after we checked out they let us rest at the hotel until our we had to leave for our train later in the day. They were very hospitable and welcoming. I would stay with them again, the hotel is close to many restaurants, shops and places to hang out. It was also very close to the hot springs that we did not take advantage of.

The bill here was much cheaper because we happened to have the cash (US $) to pay without the exorbitant credit card fee. Otherwise, the service is average, the breakfast is ok, and it's not a loud area. Actually, it's a bit of a hike to get anywhere from this corner of town. The wi-fi was usually not working. The rooms were clean and everything worked inside. The outlet is behind the mattress on the back wall. The bathroom gets soaked after a shower. Good common area with seating, sunlight (not available in all rooms) and chess.

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite on the top floor was much bigger and had windows. My lower floor room did not, t...

Stayed here for the night prior to heading out for MP. I guess we were the last people to check in that day so we were able to get one of their nicer rooms even though we booked a standard room which didn't get any complaints from me. there was a nice flat panel TV in the room that we couldnt' really figure out how to work. the breakfast was your standard fare so we definitely loaded up in the morning for our day since we did the HP climb too. the hotel was nice to keep our luggage while we were out and brought them to the train station. it does require a nice little uphill walk to get to the hotel from the train station. i would recommend it.
