This was a clean, uber modern hotel. It was comfortable, although loud, as it's made of poured concrete. Also lots of street noise (and construction), although you can't escape it in aguas calientes. I would stay there again, as the rooms were so clean, beds comfortable. A great option pre- or post-Machu pichu.

El Mapi would have been an okay hotel in Agua Calientes, but its entire site is under heavy construction as old building is being demolished. The whole hotel, lobby, hallways were filled with concrete dust, and workers transporting the demolished material thru on their way to get rid of it. Dirt and dust were everywhere, and it was enough to cause eyes to water. During the day the noise was terrible, and during the night, the dust hung over everything. The hotel was, and probably will be among the best in Agua Calientes, but that is not saying much. Would highly recommend if you are in the area to visit Macchu Picchu (and why else would you be here?) that you consider the following plan. Arrive in Agua Calientes late morning or noon and catch the bus to the top. This will get you to the site after the early large crowds have come and gone. Enjoy the site with less people around, then if you wish to spend the night to see it at sunrise, stay at the Sanctuary Lodge, and when you're done in the morning, take the train back thru the Sacred Valley to Cusco. The staff at El Mapi were very gracious and helpful, and the bar was a great place to socialize. The dining room was also nice. But the overriding construction makes this an unacceptable stop until it is completed.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere until the construction is completed. There is no way to get away from it.

El Mapi is a comfortable room in the quaint town of Agus Caliente, but not much else. Although the bed is big and comfortable, it takes up 85% of the floor space leaving very little room for 2 people to navigate and store baggage. During peak times when guest are getting ready, the showers run cold, which is unfortunate after a long day hiking the Inca Trail. Te internet is very spotty. The most disappointing characteristic, however, is the restaurant. Our breakfast and dinner at El Mapi were by far the least enjoyable meals my wife and I had during our 7 days in Peru. For the steep price, I would recommend that people consider other hotels in Aguas Calientes.

Location location location. This property tries to look chic, but the decor is more IKEA. Bar and restaurant are very nice. We booked a triple room but upon entering, there was only two single beds (there are four of us as stated in reservation). Instead of moving us to a bigger room, they added a third single bed to an already super tight space. There was literally no place to set foot after the bed moving. This is not to be confused with Inkaterra, their sister resort, which I wish I had stayed. When asked about walking tours which was written in bold block letters on their wall for chic factor, the front desk had to call Inkaterra. My tour guide said we could visit Inkaterra and their garden for free. This was not the case. To visit the garden, it will be 60 sols ($20) per person. Breakfast and lunch buffets and the 3 course dinner were very good. Staff is friendly and helpful, at times a little confused. Room is the least desirable part of this hotel. Bathroom was smelly and very very basic. Room price is written in block letter on the wall too. For the room you get, definitely not worth the official price.

Modern, clean and well appointed room. Comfortable bed. Slightly jokey feel with type stencilled everywhere in room (mirror in bathroom advertising happy hour/ shower curtain re towels rather than usual notice etc). Service in bar and restaurant was not great. The Happy Hour deal which clearly says 2:1 relates only to cocktails (not beers) and the "free" pisco is tiny. Food was good in circumstances as this is a stopover for many tour groups (mainly French and Japanese when we were there), who can be somewhat overbearing - make sure you sit in the right area at dinner (which is included in the room rate) or else you'll have problems!

Room Tip: In two blocks, one is closer to Restaurant/ bar but nothing to differntiate really. You'll get w...

El Mapi should be taken off the map!
We were promised check in within 15 minutes at 12:30 (to be fair the large signs stencilled on the wall said 13:00 check in) At 12:45 we were told the corridors weren't ready so we went for a drink??? Came back at 13:30. Still not ready. Lots of people in reception waiting for their rooms. Complained and got taken to a room.
In the room there's a notice from the management apologising for the building work but it was to improve the facilities they could offer us!!! Uh, not that we'd benefit from that.
No air con; opened the window to three construction workers chatting on a half finished roof six feet away.
We complained and were shown another room which stank of fresh paint and the washbasin had not been tiled. Definitely an unfinished room again. Further aggro and eventually we were moved to our final resting place. This room was adequate. Stenciled on the wall in big letters by the mirror in the bathroom was 'Happy Hour, 6 - 7pm. Two pisco sours for the price of one.' I thought I was in Ibiza or Magaluf.
In my opinion this is a hotel that should have shut whilst serious building work was carried out but they tried to make the tourists put up with it anyway.

I complained to my tour company as this was not the level of hotel I expected them to recommend.
Breakfast was just adequate with the electric griddle caked with grease and burnt offerings.
Dinner was included but having seen some of the food that people were eating (a well known brand of spaghetti hoops came to mind) we ate across the road.

Avoid like the plague.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

“Smart” and “contemporary” are the defining elements of this hotel set in the busy heart of Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes. The design brings together a blend of classic, modern, restored and recycled materials. The influences are smart, informal, fanciful, and snazzy. The feel is function and a lack of pretension.

At this moment we are doing some improvements in the property that should be over soon. The works are organized during certain times of the day in order not to disrupt the experience of our guest. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

We would like to thank you again for taking the time to write us and for providing your feedback, we are taking note of each point mentioned and corrective measures will be taken to ensure the quality of our service.

Best regards,

Loved our stay at El Mapi. The staff was very friendly and gave a big room for our family. The room and bathroom was very chic/contemporary and very clean. Breakfast and dinner was included through our travel agency. Excellent restaurant and the bar was pretty neat too. We didn't expect to find such a top-notch hotel in such a quaint village town. Everything was in walking distance, especially the train station and bus stop for MP. The hotel arranged for our luggage to be picked up from the train station on our arrival and was delivered at the train station for our departure. I wish they would have more flexibility with checkout time as many people are not able to come back from MP before 11am.

Don't look for another hotel in Aguas Calientes. This one is perfect! They need to add a swimming pool/hot tub for relaxation after a very difficult hike to MP.
