This very laid back Oasis in the desert is super chill this hotel offers deals for overnight stays with dune buggy and sand-boarding tours. It’s worth doing them all so much fun.

The pool is open till around 10 and is really refreshing. The beds are ok, as well as the showers.

Beautiful pool and rooms were cozy. It was extremely frustrating when I all I wanted to do was take a shower before heading to the bus station and there was no hot water. Other than that very important detail, it was good.

Room basic. One cold tap in bathroom. Nice pool area. At night, a disco started up, I may as well have been in it. Incredibly noisy, and stopped about 2am.
Lovely staff, especially in the restaurant. Fish really good there at dinner time.
Perfect position for sand buggies, very scenic with the huge dune behind.

Room Tip: Choose one over reception.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, a modest little hotel with plenty to be modest about. We stayed here for two nights on our tour of Peru.

This small, two story hotel is located on the outskirts of this small resort. It is away, therefore, from the central, lagoon area. On our first night, a Sunday, an incessant drumming noise emanated from there until at least 5:30am. This could only be partially lessened by the use of ear plugs. Blissfully this did not recur on our second night so I assume that it is a weekend phenomenon.

There is a pleasant pool and bar area which is towered over by probably the tallest sand dune that you are ever likely to see.

Our “superior” room was very basic. The sink had only a single (cold water) tap. At least, I suppose, the fact that there was no plug in the sink meant that I was never likely to get a decent shave, even if there had been hot water. At least you got two choices of temperature in the shower, cold and scalding. There were sufficient power points, each one strategically located to minimise accessibility and usefulness. There is no aircon. Instead a ceiling and portable fan are provided. Their main function seems to be to ensure that hot air is distributed evenly around the room. We never achieved a state where the room temperature was lower than that outside.

If this was a superior room I hate to think what the inferior ones are like.

The lunch we had just after check in was the last meal we paid for there. The meal was ok but the service was poor and surly. One area that management appears to have put some effort into is ensuring that the level of service was consistent throughout the hotel. Consistently poor. A particular theme was that anyone serving you would, abandon you midstream to deal with anyone else who hailed them in Spanish from anywhere within a 50 metre radius. This happened to us several times.

The minimalist theme continued at breakfast. It was described as American but is unlike anything we have experienced in the US. For me, sub-continental would be more appropriate. You could get a scrambled or boiled egg but, if you wanted toast or anything else in the way of warm food, forget it. One type of meat. No cheese.

For bird enthusiasts, vermillion flycatchers, long tailed mockingbirds and Pacific doves regularly return to the hotel. We will not.

On our last night I found a genuinely friendly and helpful young man on reception who was equally so we left the next morning. Apologies to him but it wasn’t enough to change our overall view of the place.

Traveller tips- become fluent in Spanish, stop shaving, avoid weekends or, if you value your sleep, take ear plugs, learn to put up with poor service.

Huacachina is a tiny town on the side of the Huacachina Oasis. The town is in the middle of MASSIVE sand dunes.
The Huacachinero is a modest hotel in the middle of the town and has a big dune right behind the hotel. The pool was nice and the restaurant had good food.
It really makes me wonder wonder why there wasnt an air conditioner in any of the rooms. We checked in at 7pm and had to turn on the fan on, leave the door open until 10pm to make the room bearable. We slept on top of the bed until 2am or so before we could get under the sheets.
The next day we went to the pool and ordered drinks. They didnt arrive.
Good hotel but it would need aircon and better staff before I could reccomend it.
