The room we had was dark and very small. In the toilet no place to put your clothes, and too small but it had a very good hot shower.. We had pre paid our room and breakfast, but they wanted to charge us for our first breakfast. after a big discussion we received the Tumi breakfast that we had paid for. The second day there was no problem. The best thing was the lounge in the fourth floor with the morning sun shining in.
I would not go there again.

Clean. Old type parecedes coated with dark wood give feeling warmer in winter ... and darker. internet connection a little slow. Is not paid. Dinner menu with local and traditional Peruvian. Very good pie pollo y papas. The pizza is also good. two blocks of Central Avenue has a square in front of the church with artezanado. Morning has a Peruvian woman who takes a Llama "Carla" in front of the hotel through a "bribe" tip = take pictures.
Attendants thoughtful. Only thought the restaurant attendants should receive more training in English and Portuguese to explain the local dishes and have a little more empathy for the stranger who does not know cooking. In most think if you go beyond the tourist circuit Mountain Huarazcan (the third peak of South America - very beautiful and snowy and its lagoons) is a good option for a three days in the region. Airport access is beautiful, simple, small but clean and the head facing west is Mount Huarazcan. You can take nice photos. It is in the town of "Gorda" a 20-minute drive from Huaraz city, capital of the department Ancach.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing Avenue San Matins (main). Even a 22 hours has a little traffic .. nothing that is...

This hotel definitely does not worth the money.. The price of the room is way too high for what they offer and especially high compering to other great hostels in the city that charge a lot less and give a lot more..
The high price don't even includ breakfast! And if you will try to eat one at the hotel restaurant (for extra pay) you will find it very poor.. The service is very bad and whatever you do- DON'T use their outrages laundry service!!!! They charged us 75 soles for 2 kilos of laundry!!!!!!!! (While every other laundry place will take 8 soles for that.. MAX) we strongly reccomand you to find a nicer, cheaper hostel with better staff and much better services.

We got there at 5.30 pm without a reservation but were told that a room would be ready for us a 8.30 pm... .... zzzz...zzzz it is 10.30 pm and the room is finally ready El famoso " en un ratito" Peruano did it again.
The room is very clean but right away we notice that the TV remote control did not work, we never got another one even after calling the front desk twice!
We did try the Extra services on the top floor while waiting for our room:
1. the jacuzzi : water flow to fill it up is too slow= 2o minutes wait, the shower handle on the side of the Jacuzzi is broken.
2. Massage: 3 minutes after the massage starts the masseuse picks up the phone and let you dry face down for 10 minutes

NOW PAY ATTENTION TO THIS:
In Peru there is an official book in all the hotel and business that is reviewed by the government it is called the "Libro de reclamacion" if you request it the biz owner must give it to you and you can file a complain, this is no Joke it will have consequences... Unforunately in the case of the Hotel El Tumi it seens that the staff is told to give you a fake one or more clearly the non official one. My wife is Peruvian and could tell the difference right away , we will file a complain with Indecopi which is the consumer affairs protection agency so this is investigated. Heavy fines are given to Businesses trying to hide or do not have a complain book.

On the positive side I would say that the staff is very friendly. They allowed us a very early check-out which was very helpful after an overnight bus trip.
Rooms are clean and spacious but in a dark and old fashioned style.
There were mainly mining workers staying there.
There is coca tea available on reception all day, it was very good.

On arrival the room was freezing cold, we asked for portable heaters.
The windows and door to the balcony have gaps so we got all the noise and fumes from traffic.
We changed room but this one overlooked the hotel garage where workers turned their cars on from 6am, letting the engines running for hours, chatting loudly and blowing the horn.
We saw a truck inside the garage with three dead pigs staying there all day.
Also when we arrived there was no electricity but the hotel had a generator running.
On the second day there was only hot water but no cold water and we couldn't even flush the toilets.
Our booking included breakfast but nobody could agree which type of breakfast we were allowed to, generally people pay extra from the menu. It took a long time to sort this out, they even had to ring the office in Lima!
Dinner was good.
Next time I will try La Joya hotel, on the same street, it seems to have better reviews.

Room Tip: There seem to be some rooms that don't overlook the street or the garage, you'd better ask t...

We stayed at Tumi for 4 nights while visiting Huaraz and enjoyed the stay. The hotel is conveniently located 2-3 blocks from the main square and within easy walking distance to restaurants etc. HotelTumi caters for a mixed of foreign and local tourists.

We stayed in the Suite on the 2nd floor. I had originally reserved a double room, but managed to negotiate a good discount for the suite. The suite was very spacious (double the size of the double rooms I would say), well appointed and and clean. It has a king size bed, a small living room with TV, DVD and a large round table with 4 chairs. The room had carpet floors and a large heater. We were there in August and although cold outside, did not need the heather in the room.

The bathroom was good size. Good water pressure, lots of hot water, which was nice after a day's treck. The reception staff were frienfly. I speak Spanish, so not sure about their level of English. They have a spa on the 5th floor where I had a good massage one evening. I did not eat in the restaurant as there are many other choices around, no can't comment on the food, although the restaurant always seemed busy.

Overall Tumi was a good choice and despite the additional costs to upgrade to the Suite, much cheaper than hotel Andino. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a central mid range+ base and do not wish to pay the Andino rates.

Room Tip: Doubles face inside, Twins are a bit more spacious and face the street. Ask for a high floor (piso a...

I stayed at El Tumi on two occasions during July 2011 with a friend of mine. The hotel was a pleasant surprise from the start, and we enjoyed our stay. The only issue was that for a couple of days we lacked hot water.

The staff speaks a little of English, and are friendly. Especially the staff in the restaurant and the bar made us feel very welcome, every time.

Ear plugs may be a good idea, especially if you happen to stay there during festive season.

Location is very good, very near to Plaza de Armas and downtown services. The hotel is well recognized by taxi drivers around Huaraz area.
