After Lima, the inevitable start of most trips into Peru, Huaraz came as a relief.
We found ourselves in a large room, 2 floors up, with a nice view of the town and the mountain ranges that enclose it. The only detail we missed was the heating - we should have asked: it was winter and high up so the room was cold. The next day this was solved by a small electric heater. From the hotel the center is a short taxi ride away. We did some tours, sampled the peruvian food and on the last day visited the lovely little archeological museum. A good place to stay!

Room Tip: Choose a room at the street side; or at least high up to get the views.

Set approximately ten blocks from the centre of Huáraz, the Pastoruri Hotel is located on an anonymous and easily-missable side road.

The front steps lead to a reception area with faded elegance. A small bar and two computers with high-speed Internet are located downstairs; wifi is also available throughout the building.

The rooms themselves were of a good size and the bathroom ample with an effective power shower and a good supply of hot water. My room felt cold and I could not locate a thermostat to control room temperature. Whilst fittings were a touch worn and tired, the room was perfectly clean.

Beds were relatively standard with a decent mattress; given the altitude (3,000+ m), the hotel should provide more blankets.

Tourists should be aware that even if their reservation was made in US$ (for instance through an online travel agency), the hotel only has facilities to charge in Soles, and their conversion rate-at around 2.70-was less than favourable. Even though I paid in cash (Soles), the hotel was unwilling to give me the then market rate of 2.55. Given that I made the reservation in Dollars, I should be able to pay in US$ or be charged the exact market value in Soles. The hotel's inflexibility was disappointing.

A perfectly acceptance choice for a night or two; at US$35/night (advertised price) it's decent value for money.

My husband & I recently stayed two nights at the Pastoruri Hotel. For us, having arrived on a Movil Tours bus, it was a perfect location. It was a simple, 10 minute walk from the terminal to the hotel. (Albeit, through a street dug up for infrastructure repairs.) The hotel is clean and modern, with very obliging staff. The Wifi in the room worked just fine and there were also computers for guests' use in the lobby. We appreciated the coca tea which was available free in the lobby as well. The included breakfast is served in the 7th floor restaurant, which offers excellent views of the city and mountains. Breakfast is made to order, not buffet style. The location was also perfect for walking along the main street to the Plaza Mayor and the markets. Considering the price and that this is rural Peru, we are rating the hotel as a 5.

I need to say this is an excellent choice for a hotel, if you are going with your wife or family to Huaraz. I have to mention all these good things that i noticed: excellent service from the staff, amazing food in the Restaurant with a nice view to the Cordillera Blanca (by the way a BIG HELLO to Mrs Aide, who gave us a total perfect service with the meals), their treat is something they should never change to the tourists, since this is the trigger that made me discard other hotels like el Tumi or La Joya, which by the way are far away from a good service from what i could talk to some tourists we met.
We personally chose a room in a higher floor, in order to have a nicer view and so it was great. By the way, to me, coz im from Lima it was pretty crazy to walk from the hotel to the Plaza de Armas, coz i would get tired pretty quick lol but no noise at night and very nice located.
We gotta thank Mrs Sonia from the reception, she was great for all the information and services she provided to us at all times
We wanna thank also Dennis and Flor Violeta Conco Tito, this last one was our tourist guide from the "The Golden" Tour agency, she is an excellent tour girl, very knowledgeable regarding everything about Huaraz and any other places (by the way, i didnt know what the word Lima meant, until she light us up with that lol), just wanna say we loved her!
Hopefully im not forgetting anyone or to mention anything else, but 100% recommended for the Hotel and the Tour agent !!!!

Room Tip: Always ask for a heater if needed, they will provide you with a mobile unit. Ask with views to the Cordillera Blanca. It is not really that you will be able to see it all, but still the higher the better.

Very nice place near the center. It can be reached by walking from the tourist office. The hotel is also used by groups.
The restaurant provides standard food. All meals are served, no buffet ( not even for breakfast ).
The pick-up service from the bus-station works also after heavy arrival delays.
