“Average experience - Family oriented”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2013

The Hotel is 5 hours away from Lima by Bus.

The place was really beautiful but a little old. There were a lot of families around (not many young couples).
Regarding the rooms they were big and comfortable, on the other hand we didn’t reach good internet signal.

The alcohol they use for cocktails was really cheap , I had a Pisco sour and got a terrible headache during the afternoon. The only way to get a good quality alcohol is to buy a bottle or drink bear.
The front desk wasn’t that helpful either, we ask them to buy us some cigarettes and the girl almost hang up the phone on us.

Overall It was an average experience, is a good option to take a family trip (maybe a little too expensive for the services you will receive). I wouldn’t rate it as a 4 stars hotel, 3 maybe.

Room Tip: Near the pool the rooms are bigger.

A classic of Peruvian hotels south of Lima, this large hotel lies on the outskirts of Ica with a large sand dune sitting in its back yard. The rooms are spread over a large ground, built to replicate a small pueblo, with small streets and named squares and dome shaped roofs. Romantic to look at and fun for the family, the hotel offers several pools, including a large slide, gardens, plantations, horse back riding, dune climbing, sand boarding and a large array of family and children activities. Some forty years after its founding this hotel is still very well up kept and continuous to be a favorite winter escape for Lima’s society (today no just high society any more). I suggest avoiding weekends on high-season as it may get a bit too crowded and loud.
The hotel is also a good starting point to visit several wineries in the area (don’t expect much, yet some like Queirolo are OK) as well as the Nazca lines. The Huacachina oasis and the sand buggy rides through the surrounding dunes are classic activities here that almost can’t be missed.

I enjoyed my stay here, pretty location with plenty of space to walk the attractive grounds, the rooms were fair, beds could have been better, be a good place for kids, food good, extensive buffet breakfast with no restriction on what you could eat, I gave it a 4 star rating more like 3.5, great location for visiting the local area, would I revisit ? answer yes.
Look out for the lady tour operator in the foyer area, she was great and took us around the local places of interest, plus a great visit to Paracas with boat trip.

Stayed here for one night and first impressions were 'wow'. The grounds are fantastic and this low rise hotel is set out like a village. There is a choice of pools and plenty of other entertainments, especially if you have children. The room we had was huge but very basic. Sparse furnishings meant there was loads of echo. However, the walls to adjacent rooms are non-existant - you will hear every wake up call, toilet flush, blowing of noses and conversation. Hence, bring your ear plugs.
One good point - the shower was great and there were loads of satelleite channels (including several english ones).
The bar was great, especially as you could relax in a sofa by the open fire. The restaurant was good but we found the meals to be very salty (especially the mashed potato). Breakfast was the usual peruvian buffet - could do better!!
Overall the resort was peaceful and had plenty of character. It is a little way out of town so you will need to catch a taxi to the centre.

First things first - if you're planning on using the discount voucher from Trip Advisor, make sure you email the hotel to confirm that the voucher is redeemable and then print your email correspondence to present at check-in. On arrival, the receptionist tried to inform me that the voucher was not valid when reservations were made online. Only when I showed her the voucher AND my prior email to management was I given the 20% discount in credit with which to pay for food, drinks and other services.

Overall, the hotel is decent. The grounds are beautiful but there is some work being undertaken to build a new pool. It's by no means disruptive though. The rooms could do with a bit of improvement, however. Our room was clean but the paintwork needed retouching and the beds were pretty uncomfortable (especially when a wheel broke off one unexpectedly). The mosquito screen also had a hole in it, while the plywood placed over the window above the door (presumably to minimise light into the room at night) was flimsy and poorly fitted.

Food is good but a little overpriced but given that there is little on offer in Ica itself, this is perhaps understandable. The staff are very friendly and everyone made an effort to say hello when we passed them. Additionally, the tour operator in the hotel, comes highly recommended. If you want a good value and personalised trip to Paracas, Huacachina, the vineyards or Islas Ballestas, she's worth paying a visit.

In summary, this is a perfect place for families with plenty on offer to keep kids occupied. Once renovations are complete (hopefully in the rooms too), this will surely be a 4 star resort.

We spend one night and the kids without parent supervision was horrible! The noise and knocking at the door and running away, draging things and playing at all hours made me call for help twice. The spa was nice. The room simple and the team nice.

Comfortable, clustered-rooms in a charming maze around a little lagoon. Pool area lovely where breakfast buffet is pricey but delicious. When I didn't like our assigned room, the staff was accommodating and moved us to one more to my liking. Need to take taxi to the center of Ica where there are some good restaurants and a vibrant central plaza. The Cruz del Sol bus out of Ica will stop to pick up passengers but note: it may arrive early and it may arrive late and you must go downtown to buy your tickets.
