“Great location, historic hotel, far from being new”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2012

The location is perfect in the center of town. Parking is available in front of the hotel.
The hotel dates more than a hundred years and was designed by Gustav Eifel (designer of the Eifel tower) which means it has a historic and unique design.
It also means that it is very old and could use a renovation.
The room was clean and fairly spacious.
Staff was helpful but not very friendly.
Breakfast is not that great but enough to get you going for the day.
It is a shame they do not have Wifi in the rooms. This should be a standard feature by now and the main reason I rank it 3 instead of 4.

Located on the central square in one of the grandest building in the city this hotel hotel is a prime piece of Romanian history. Built by famous French architect in late 19th century, the building served various purposes, including hosting the Romanian government during WW1. Having undergone full renovation in 2006 it is now the biggest and most elegant 4 star hotel in the city.

All rooms have high ceilings and a lot of space and offer great views on the surrounding city. Furniture is themed in classic french style. Breakfast provides plenty of high quality products to choose.

The only complaint is that sometimes it suffers from problems that most big hotels can demonstrate from time to time. The cleaning staff work on somehow selective basis, and often the room remains uncleaned for the day if, for example, you leave a little later. Reception staff are fluent in foreign languages and mostly helpful, however, on one occasion when request to extend the reservation was apparently confirmed, I was asked the same question again the next day...

Overall a fine hotel and probably the best place to stay in Iasi center. The nearby hotel Select offers comfortable but much smaller rooms with lesser views for the same price.

I stayed in the hotel for a few days for a conference in Iasi. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms are a little bit old-fashioned but all-in-all very fine. I had the unlucky experience of losing my luggage en route and the bell boy was extremely helpful in assisting me in purchasing clothes, shoes, toiletries etc. I ate in the restaurant and enjoyed the food.

In all the Traian Hotel is a wonderful place to stay at. The staff is very professional and they offer you a good service, and sometimes this comes with a smile.

The rooms are a little old, but clean. This is an old hotel, with a lot of charme, but I hope this hotel will be renovated to live up to ists reputuation.

This hotel is of course overpriced, if you only look at the rooms. The breakfast and location, the history and reputation make it a good investmen, but do not expect a 5 star hotel.

I left my design Thalys scarf, 'designed by Eva Gronbach' at the hotel. Hopefully next year, it will still be there! That would be a great service!

Thank you for your objective review.

Our charming hotel is 129 years old and has last been refurbished in 2006, when it receieved its 4-start classification. We will be always looking to keep it up to the highest standards and we appreciate when our guests help us spot the faults we cannot always see ourselves.

The staff of the hotel also wants to thank you for the kind words and hopes you will come back for a pleasant surprise next year.

The hotel looks very elegant and the location is great. However, for the price you pay, you don't get much in room quality or facilities. There is no wifi.
The restaurant offers a 15% discount to guests, but the food was very very uninspiring. The carpaccio was served with grey soaked meat instead of fresh red meat. When we sent back the dish, the waiter answered that that is how carpaccio is in Romania. Doubtful that anyone would eat carpaccio with tasteless old grey meat. We did not get the choice of another meal nor money back.

I had a enormously big room, ambitiously decorated in a mock Louis XVI style. Very nice bathroom, very friendly and helpful staff. In 5 years, this might be a 5 star hotel in a super trendy destination (Iasi is a lovely city). I don't think there is a better hotel in Iasi. Wifi in the lobby, not in the room if I remember correctly.
