Located just inside one of the gates of the historic city walls, this is the perfect place to start exploring the old town, or have a coffee in one of the many cafés just outside the gates - one of them is hotel Astoria's cafe where we could take our breakfast, which we preferred to the relatively strongly air-conditioned breakfast room.
You have the choice from the cafe's breakfast menu, which takes a bit longer then just going to the buffet, but quality of coffee and food is good and service very polite.
Rooms are modern, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Ours was a bit small and didn't have a view of the sea, but there apparently are a few with sea-view as well.
Despite the busy nightlife in the old town, our room was very quiet, except for the light humming of a ventilation system in the courtyard (we slept with the window open).
The historic town centre of Budva is car-free, therefore you have to park on one of the parking lots about 250m from the hotel. You can get a parking ticket at a discount from the hotel reception (In April 2011 it was about 7 EUR/day). (Of course you can also try to park further away from the old town where parking is free, but that entails a bit more walking).
Staff at the reception are very helpful and speak very good English.

Cosy hotel within the walls of the old city. Quiet, only a few rooms. Near access to the beach. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good service when we arrived. No parking close to the hotel. No cars in the old city, easy to walk with the kids in the narrow streets.

Best located hotel in budva, new trendy styling inside beautiful old town walls. Great breakfasts and lovely room. Highly reccommend the sea view suite, Overlooking best beach in town and superbly located for beach / old town and generally the smarter area of the town. Great sights within an hour's drive too incl Cetinje, kotor, mountain roads and views galore. An undiscovered gem, but shame about run-down main beach area and hideous new development south of bay. This does not detract form a great stay however which was really made by the attentiveness of all the staff and huge amount of understanding and assistance offered for our 8 mth old daughter.

We stayed at the Astoria Hotel in Budva for a great winter break in December. We'd heard great things and read the great reviews about this beautiful new hotel inside the city walls of Budva. To be honest we were cautious because it was inside the walls and expected this to be a challenge- but it was not. The hotel is just inside the walls and the staff were able to arrange for us to bring our car very close - just outside the walls.
Ana at reception introduced us to all that the Hotel had to offer, and also provided superb informatuon on Montenegro - the country was new to us.

We heard that there was also another brand new Astoria in Kotor which we happened to look at after we checked out and it was also superb. It's on our list to stay there the next time we visit Montenegro and Kotor.

After a nice stroll through old Budva we quickly realized that unusually, the Astoria Hotel Restaurant was probably one of the best in the Old Town so dined there - a wise choice. We ate great food from a very extensive menu and had great service that was repeated each day at breakfast also.

Hotel Astoria - thank you for a superb stay

The staff could not do more for us, they advised on days out and arranged taxis for us. We were picked up at Dubrovnik airport and returned safe and sound. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was lovely, we really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is beautifully situated just inside the city walls. We were first shown a room which overlooked the air conditioning plant (an eyesore and emitting noise from the fans) which we declined, and were given a 2nd floor suite overlooking the street.
At the time we stayed (before the main season) the pedestrian traffic in the street reduced to very little by midnight although there were some rowdies below at ca. 03:00 on one night. I suspect that any room looking onto the street would be very noisy in high season. Avoid if you can. The aircon plant may be preferable!!

Breakfast is served in the bar/ restaurant on the ground floor. This restaurant is open to the public and also serves people at tables-with-umbrellas outside the city walls. Costs were included in the room rate but were quite expensive - about E9 for eggs Benedict as I recall.
On the first morning we received very poor service from the waiters; it taking 30 minutes from ordering to receiving coffee. There were very few customers and the attitude was inexcusable. I made my displeasure known but this did not improve the service. After breakfast, the hotel receptionist (I suspect she may have been the manager or owner) asked generally whether everything was OK referring to the room, and our general wellbeing. I expressed my disatisfaction with the service and she subsequently gave the restaurant staff a tongue lashing.
Service on the second morning was much improved.

Parking is some distance away from the hotel and it's necessary to pay for parking carry or wheel luggage maybe 300m and then after checking in move the car to a free car park about 500m away. Check out involves this in reverse or a longer journey with luggage.
We were offered no help with this which we felt should have been provided.

Overall the situation and ambiance almost compensated for the service shortcomings.

We recently stayed at the hotel and found that it was up to the level that it has been recommend at. Not only is the hotel in a great convient place to stay at, clean and modern/boutique style, but the staff put in that extra effort to make your stay comfortable and rememorable. If you are heading this way, please do not think twice in not staying there!
