Hotel Mogren
Ranked #12 of 25 Hotels in Budva
Reviewed 17 September 2012

We came to Budva this summer to enjoy the coast of Montenegro. We chose Hotel Mogren as its location is quite good, very central. Here comes what happened to us in the first night: While we were sleeping someone broke into our hotel room (#218), stole all the money from our wallets and took the gadgets that were on the cupboard. We didn`t hear anything. Also the door was not broken the next morning. That`s why we believe someone from staff must have done the burglarly. The police came the next morning and filed a report. The hotel director never came to apologize! What is even worse: The police referred to the Hotel director for us to get a copy of the report. Despite various emails the Hotel Director never responded to us even six weeks after! Avoid that hotel! It`s hard to believe we are the only ones to whom this had happened!

Dear flo_com,
before posting such accusations it would be best to post all the facts and let the other users decide what actually happened. After you declared that your money and belongings was stolen both to us and the police we handed over to the policemen 3 CD's with the entire security footage of the night from all the possible angles. While the police reviewed this footage and found no one entering your room (not even staff) you left the country even though you were advised by the police to stay. The room you were in is on the 3rd floor so the chances of somebody having climbed over to your room in an area constantly packed with people is also impossible.

Now you claim that the police pointed you towards us to send you the necessary documents for your insurance claim. First of all we do not have the legal authority nor right to obtain and even send such documents. Second, you never again contacted the police or the German embassy to obtain these documents (the actual entities that have the right to issue and request such documents). Third you requested a copy of the police report which would do you no good in case of insurance claim since you need the original copy.

To conclude the story; the police unofficially concluded the case as an insurance scam. Unofficially because they did not manage to control the guests luggage since they left in quite a hurry.

Now you be the judge of what actually happened...

Our best regards

The hotel has no frills, although rooms are air-conditioned and some have a view to the sea. It is about 50 meters from the beach and right next to the enchanting old city. The hotel has a simple self-service restaurant that has surprisingly good food, and guests often ask for half board.

Fabulous location, professional and helpful staff, extremely clean rooms, good breakfast, fast Internet connection - we will surely be coming back! A bit unreasonable that some reviewers complain of the noise - what do you expect if you want to be situated in the very centre of night life buzz? You can hear live music coming from numerous cafes, but if you really want to go to sleep while the night is still young, it's enough to close the balcony door and then you hear it as if there was a radio playing discreetly in the room. You can't find a better located hotel in Budva, and the level of cleanliness and professionalism that's really impressive. Highly recommended!

Nice place. Rooms and whole hotel need a touch of future but great staff, clean rooms, great food, excellent location. It is located in the heart of Budva, in Old town and everything is very near. Beaches Richards head, Mogren 1 and 2 are a few minutes away. Rooms are very clean, We were in the room facing caff-es and restaurants but We could not hear a thing. Staff is very friendly, You can ask for what ever You need. Free parking is near bus station, since owner is the same, but it is a 20 minutes walk from the hotel. Food is great, big portion. We were very happy with everything and I hope to go there again.

Old hotel with ex-YU charme. It seems that there were no proper renovation since Tito`s death. It is located at the entrance of the Old Town in a pedestrian zone (Boulevard to the beach), this was the one and only advantage. But noisy and almost impossible to sleep....No parking near the hotel (there is one parking lot but you have to pay a lot of € for using that and parking space is not granted!), rooms with furniture from the 70ties, unfriendly staff. For the limited offer quite expensive :( I would not recommend it.

Stayed here many times in the course of last seven years, though somewhat dated, this hotel is the best deal in Budva, rooms clean, nice views and perfectly located, nice staff, beach passes

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Mogren is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Old Town's confining walls and is one of the oldest hotels in Budva. According to an ancient story, the name of the hotel is related to Mogren beach. After a severe naval fight sea has dropped a body of a lonely sailor, who survived the ship wrecking, right onto the palms of the pearl-like beach. His name was Mogren. As a sign of gratitude for the salvation, later on, he had built a church at the same beach and has dedicated it to St. Anthony, considered to be the patron of the poor and oppressed. Otherwise, hotel Mogren is widely known after its beautiful terrace, that looks towards the main square in front of the Old Town, where numerous manifestations, such as The Song of the Mediterranean,The Fish Festival, The Carnival, The New Year's Eve Celebration and many others have been traditionally organized and held. As an integral part of “Mercur System” company, hotel works continually whole year, ready to meet you and greet you with the traditional welcome of Montenegro. ... more   less
