I had been three times in this hotel for business purposes. My impression was the same each and every time: this is definitively not the hotel I would opt for. Except beautiful hotel park and interesting history and legends about the building, this hotel does not offer much, and what it does offer is not at the appropriate level.

Hotel and everything in and around it (rooms, restaurant, park, parking, halls, stairs) is really, really clean, and there is nothing to complain about it.

Rooms are huge and cold. Heating is provided by air conditioners which can hardly warm up over sized rooms. In two out of three visits, I had failures in the room which could not be fixed: once I could not switch off the lamps on the wall (the friendly staff had to unscrew the bulbs in 1 am) and the second time my air conditioner was so loud that I figured out that sleeping in cold is better then not sleeping at all. The result - flu in the following two weeks.

There is no relax, sports or any other additional amenities. Having in mind that a hotel is quite isolated - nearby is only little village Ecka - a guest has nothing left but repetitive walking or sitting in the hotel.

Internet connection is not functional in the rooms. Therefore, for any of his/her online needs, a guest has to go to the small and uncomfortable reception hall or even smaller bar.

Finally, the big problem which - to be honest - the hotel itself can not solve, is water. Running water strongly smells on sulphur and metal, and the taste is the same. Although the hotel staff advise people not to drink it (thank them for that), the hotel did not find necessary to offer their guests bottled water for free.

A breakfast was excellent in diversity and quality, but quite poor in quantity. Be a little late - plenty of breakfast offers are already gone.

Any pros? Yes: cleanliness, friendly staff and nature. But it is not enough to keep your guests.

My husband is from Ecka and we got married in Kastel in 2010 - and it was a fantastic day. Our guests came from around the globe and Kastel gave us e best possible service both in organising the day and helping all of us enjoy when it came. We go back regularly and it is well worth the visit - it has rich history and is one of the best lodgings for miles. The staff is fantastic and has been there for years and the gardens are an oasis of peace and history. Food is regional and Central European mix and if you are anywhere in the region this is the place to stay.

Country house - hunters residence for a wealthy aristocracy of the nineteenth century. Perfect style. Big rooms. Quiet. Close to Zrenjanin and Belgrade. Sadly we had time for one night only. Perfect food.

Room Tip: Great ambient

While that Friday I go to the village Ecka, to visit the hotel "Kaštel", which is housed in that place, in my mind are contradictory picture. The first is from history. From the annals and imagined, probably embellished. For each castle is in the imagination – magnificent! Second, long-term projections this facility, in the memory box are from the time when the Yugoslav socialism was on its last legs. Then the castle was represented by the ruins of the building that experiences working as a canteen and devalued rural pub. The castle was then, its appearance and function driven to despair. So on it and write young Zrenjanin avant-garde writers in the booklet "Pamphlets." Today, while I'm on my way, with a lot of anxiety, in the Castle, from further see that the Red Castle, so called from the beginning because of the intense color, in a rudimentary form was built in 1783, once again alive and proudly rooted in a powerful bark.
In 1820 construction of the castle was completed. It can be said that today has a similar appearance, because by the current owners restored almost to its original appearance. With careful restoration and modern catering interior interventions, the Castle became a prominent tourist facility.
So this is the Red Castle, which is just in front of me. Its facade with many windows looks like as an anchor that holds together a large park. In the background,
in the sky with a few clouds and lots of wind, in the opposite light, there is a looming tower of a cathedral. It looks like the silhouette of this autumn day in Banat. It is one of three local churches. Also nearby are Serbian and Romanian church. History can, here in Ecka to continue, as the current owners have shown respect for this noble nest. The original building of the Kastell was built by the owner of the property, Lazar Lukac, Armenian by origin. It was a single-storied building, with a facade in the English style. In 1820. was completed, the final construction of the castle, which was then, one might say, it looked almost exactly like the current building renovated and reconstructed. At least it’s exterior. As we enter in representative large hall, which is now used as a dining room, a discreet stylistic tribute to the era of Art Nouveau, bruised tones crossed with dark ocher, reminds me of the occasion in the past, which followed the completion ceremony of the spacious building.
Big and rich opening ceremony of the castle gathered a multitude of guests who arrived, so to speak, with many European parties, started when flares. Pose consecration Kastel and luncheon, a gentleman was staged hunt for their wives organized a gondola trip on the Great (Ecska) lake and river Begej. Ball in the evening was intended as the culmination of a ceremony. And so it was, and 1820. However, the history of the latter recorded a second event, which took place the next day afternoon, as the most important. On the last day of August, in the great hall of the castle, the famous Austro-Hungarian Count Esterhazy organized a piano concert his protégé, future and virtuoso pianist famous composer, Franz Liszt. The crowd certainly enjoyed his music-making though, I'm almost sure that nobody felt a premonition - a genius in the room Ecska's rewire.
In this same area, almost 300 years ago, could be hear ecstatic music brilliant Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt! The challenge is to dine in the hall in which the history of music has its traces. While sitting at the impeccably elegant table, silent and skilled waiters bring lunch, not without regret I think of Columbine, my French muse, who had back at Lion. It would certainly be delighted with this posh meal in an atmosphere of superior service, a refined atmosphere and intense awareness of the historical context. Somewhere in discreet salons, once at the beginning of the 19th century had lunch here and Franz Ferdinand, the Austro -Hungarian heir to the throne. And somewhere in the hidden chambers of Kastel, come to gamble on the future Serbian King Alexander. It was once...
For lunch we served is: Veal stew, with a well-balanced relation of meat, vegetables and spices, and a main course offered a combination of "Royal File", in which participation pork, prunes, walnuts, adding that "of kajmak" (It's kind of fat and aromatic cream), while the other half of the plate was supplemented with chicken medallions in a sauce of cranberries. The meal was fantastic arranged while its taste is not far behind. With white wine and seductive cake "Tiramisu" meal under the umbrella of history woven into modern catering time passed unusually quickly and elegantly. After that we went on a tour of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, equipped with all the elements of comfort, but at the same time and unpretentious.
The corridors of the hotel, unlike the traditional reminiscent of tunnels - there seem kind of soft, and have a view that as touching Park and nature in him. In the interior, with measure and taste, arranged portraits of former landowners, their shields and swords. As a drop of chivalrous times.
At the end of this trip to the Red Castle in Ecka, who also called the Hunting castle, because the environment is a paradise for hunters it is desirable to afford your body and mind a little walk through the park. At 17 acres, this green island truly offers you stay in a different world. We arrive at the entrance or exit, in each case, and the Storage Contemporary Gallery from Zrenjanin. Then again, as I heard the voice of my friend's Columbine, “Maybe you can suggest a Director of Castle; it seems like a sensible and enterprising man, to do what we have seen in Saint-Paul de Vence, there in the hills above Nice. In this hotel - "La Colombe d'Or'' , the management of all areas of his mansion decorated with the works of Braque , Picasso , Miro, Seurat , Duffie , Utrillo, Modigliani ... artists who have lived and painted in this hotel. Probably in this Art magazines have and Serbian art works greats from the past. It is a pity to their canvas does not stand in that magnificent Ballroom. It is not good to stay in the dark instead of watching guests while dinner listening to the music of Franz Liszt. It would be something expected in this, the otherwise good hotel.
Indeed, the Castle – Hotel in Ecska village, near Zrenjanin, has a great opportunity to engage in some of the views on Europe. Birds , fish , lakes and wetlands , trace Liszt pianist , and an impressive collection of paintings from the former Yugoslavia , combination of authentic and exotic , seen through the eyes of the Red Castle , a romantic " Sybil " and sudden wildness " Imperial Swamp" , with unique sacred plain " rainforest " may be the challenges for the most demanding tourists and the passionately curious .

It’s a very isolated and nice place. One can spend quiet two-three days in a renovated hotel… The food is very good. Try carp, it’s perfect, the meat is also very good. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars for the food in the hotel. But there is an issue with tap water. Although it is drinkable, I would not recommend it. It smells. Maybe, that is the reason why coffee and tea there are not so good. Skip it if you can do without those…

We did a company team building in Kastel, it was well organized by the stuff there… They have everything one needs to organize meetings, presentation etc.

Besides, there is not much to do around. The hotel was totally empty when we were there. Anyhow, it looks like place dedicated for weddings and other kind of celebrations. Maybe there are some activities during spring/summer. Close-by there is a place for bird lovers, there are also few hunting grounds around, some fishing activities. Maybe a visit to a city of Zrenjanin can be an option also.

The stuff is nice, not too busy in this period of a year.

I stayed in Kastel Ecka with my boyfriend for a weekend. It's nice and romantic place. Hotel is a real castle and everythin there is in that spirit. Room was very big, with beautiful oldfashion furniture and very clean. Bathroom was perfect. We got enough clean towels, bathrobe, slippers, shampoo, hair dryer, and even cotton wool, earscoop and nail file! Stuff is very friendly. Food was fantastic. For breacfast you can choose between muesli, salami, cheese, butter, eggs, omlets, salads, jam, fruits etc. And for dinner you choose between two dishes.Portions are big, perfectly decorated and so tasty. You have soup, main dish, salad, bread and cake at the end. In Ecka you don't have anything to see. But, near is Zrenjanin city where you can take a walk, sight seeing, shopping and go out at night. So, it's very nice, but not for some long stays.
