Notes based on Saga all inclusive week package (£414 only!) during opening days of new season when hotel was not fully functional and at times only 20 or so guests in residence. Main reason for choosing Montenegro was to gain insight into life in Europe's newest state so, my focus was on on culture, language issues, politics and people rather than hotel frailties, facilities and services, I admit..
Although hotel surroundings were suburban, location alongside narrow, well lit promenade (being resurfaced) within 15 minutes' walk of historic town was great advantage. Ambling in other direction took one to health resort of Igalo where concrete architecture evoked fascinating echoes of 'old Yugoslavia'. Prom was very popular with locals of all ages, especially (very) civilised youths and older strollers.
Bedroom adequate: bed firm, pillows fluffy, bathroom better than expected, small sea- and garden-facing balcony. Food fairly tasy and varied with 4-5 main dishes at dinner but small choice of sweets. Breakfast fine with usual hot and cold selection. Dining outside on crisp white linen with comfortable chairs and surrounding greenery was convenient, pleasurable and, given good company, memorable. Staff in reception and restaurant were generally attentive, friendly and especially responsive to my 50 or so words of their language.
Being a Saga novice, the 'all inc' extras and offers were of particular interest. All local arrangements, led by their sparkling, oustanding resort rep, assisted by her engaging, enthusiastic tour guide husband worked well, though the early season situation meant that some optional excursions were unavailable. The walking tour of HN was not inspiring but trips to Kotor and to the traditional and modern capitals inland were really absorbing. Talks on local culture, history and language were well prepared and presented but poorly attended. Wine, bottled beer and local liquers were freely available with meals and later in the Saga bar. Extras and entertainment included welcome drinks, cocktail party, celebratory dinner, modern and folklore dancing and a musical trio - presumably for dancing - in declinig order of interest for this reviewer!
So all in all great value for money but difficult to attribute my appreciation to basic hotel facilities, Saga services, resort appeal, dramatic scenery or friendly Montenegrins.
Hotel/holiday certainly worth a try - even at mid or high season prices.
Diolch yn fawr Montenegro. Llongyfarchiadau ar eich rhyddid a phob llwyddiant.

We really loved Herceg Novi. The beaches were great, there was a wonderful selection of restaurants, and the people were welcoming. The hotel was totally ok. The room was a good size and we had a little balcony that overlooked the sea. It was a bit noisy with the blasting techno music that is endemic to the Balkans which emanated from the bar below - but which stopped around 10 pm. My partner and I disagree about breakfast. He was content; I thought it was one stop above dire. We would recommend the hotel to people who have their own wheels and will get out of the hotel to see more of the area. A good base.

We stayed for a week and paid €1200 (hotel only) for the pleasure. Although we really enjoyed our stay, At this price, I do expect more. The only method of ironing our clothes was using the laundry service (at extra cost and waiting for 24hrs). Food was good, as long as you were in the restaurant early otherwise it is cold and half the choice. One night we turned up towards the end of service and were more than less told off by the waiter that we should get there early to get the good food. Apart from this, our room was lovely. We had the friendly service seen all over Montenegro and we loved every trip away from the hotel we had. The pool was warmer than the sea and there was plenty of clean towels left each day. Would reccomend if we weren't paying nearly €200 a night!

Saga advertise the hotel as 4 Star but it is clearly maximum 3 or even 2. We spent 2 weeks there from mid May and were glad when the ordeal was over. In spite of regular requests for air conditioning the hotel steadfastly refused to operate it and Saga were of little help either. The room temperatures were unbearable. Food was no better than average and warm dishes were consistantly cold. There were shortages too like no butter at breakfast and the white wine was regularaly warm and undrinkable. We were on all inclusive and this is by far the worst all inclusive place I have stayed in and we do 3 14 day all inclusive holidays a year. There is no comparison between the RIU Hotel in Marrakesh we stayed at in January or the Iberostar in Corfu in October. In the Sun Resort you will lucky to get ice without making a fuss and the beer is warm and comes in big plastic bottles so if you are not lucky enough to get your drink first it will be flat. There was always something out of stock like no whisky for a few days and then no brandy.
The rooms are small but acceptable but the water was frequently lukewarm. On some days there was no water at all during the day. On the plus side the outlook is very attractive and the pool is fine. The hotel has lots of steps which will difficult if you are impaired or not completely mobile. The price we paid to Saga represented very poor value and I think we will stick to Thomson Platinum or decent chain hotels in future.

Went with Saga returned Gaga food OK but cold, do not expect 4**** all staff excellent ,and found all the clients very friendly, we were all inclusive so plenty of local food & drink,I held the record for the most insect bites, we moved our room which was larger than the first one(room selection is a gamble)Tours were good if only it had stayed DRY. this hotel & Herceg Novi has lots of steps.
