“Rustic Retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2014

This is somewhat in the middle of nowhere but worth the effort for a night in the countryside where you are literally surrounded by fields and rugged landscapes, birds and wildlife.. Our chalet room was a little tired but was clean and comfortable. The food was very good, particularly the vegetarian curry which was yummy!

We didn't use the pool as the water was cloudy but we expect it was possibly just a bad day.

Excellent value half board stay.

You need to drive a little trough the fields before getting there. It is surrounded by the forest, the place is lovely.
The comfort is correct and the employees are very kind. They give good service. They walk with us to show a pond that was nearby.
Food is good and swimming pool is clean.

I stayed at this resort during the off-season and loved it. The owner and his nephew could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. The resort is settled on seven acres of prime bird watching wilderness through which the owner offers lovely, guided dawn walks to see and listen to the many birds as they greet the day. Although the resort is only a short drive off the main road, it is peaceful and quiet. The open-air dining area was evocative of those at safari lodges in Africa and at night, the little fruit bats zoomed in and out of the rafters. My room was large, clean and comfortable. I didn't go in the swimming pool but it was pristine and inviting..

Extremely friendly if perhaps 10Euros overpriced for a double room. The pool and restaurant were clean, the rooms less so. But this is a quaint and quiet place to stay way from the dust and bedlam of Dambulla. The perfect place to come back to after climbing Sigirya. They will cook to order for kids, chili free too.

Difficult to access specially after an heavy rain... We appreciate the nice swimming pool after one day visit to Pollonaruwa and Sigiriya. The place need some renovations and have the potential to become a Nature Resort because of this location! Food was ok, but may be more choice would appreciate.

We were a bit apprehensive about this place after reading the reviews (it was prebooked by our travel agent), but we were very pleasantly surprised. After a bumpy ride down a gravel path we arrived at the lovely resort among huge boulders and with an inviting pool right outside our 1/2 bungalow. We were the only residents for the two nights we stayed, so I guess we had our fair share of attention! One person from the staff took us on excursions to the lake at dusk and dawn to see the wildlife.

Our room and bathroom were both basic but fine and the maid service was exquisite. The food was not memorable, but fairly priced. Our driver was pleased with his quarters too.

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Friends and I booked the hotel through a 3rd party and arrived at the hotel in the early evening. The road into the Hotel requires a competent 4x4 vehicle to navigate through what is essentially a dirt track. Our first impressions were not good at all. The reception is open and dark. There is no welcome at all. Upon arriving at the hotel, we tried to check-in. Despite having 3 separate reservations, the incompetent hotel manager and staff were only able to provide us with one room and 3 beds – a double and a single. Considering 3 adult males were travelling, they could not see that separate reservations meant separate rooms. We waited and waited. During this time, we each had a drink whilst we waited for them to resolve the issue - we eventually had to remind them we were still waiting. After 20 mins they showed us around to a couple of rooms which were disgusting. In one room, rice and curry littered the floors. The hotel assured us that the room would be cleaned before we entered. In addition, the hotel advertises wi-fi and satellite TV, however, the hotel were unable to provide these two services. We politely requested the hotel to honour our booking request or provide a discount. The hotel refused and at this point, the hotel manager lost his sense of sanity shouting abuse and obscenities which cannot be printed. Other staff joined in with further obscenities. We opted to leave the hotel immediately as we feared for our safety. We will be filing a complaint to the Sri Lankan Tourist Authority to review the behaviours of this hotel and its management. This hotel is an absolute disgrace and isn’t fit to be classed as even a 1 star hotel. Stay here at your own risk.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel!
