There is a big selection of guesthouses on Matale Road, the main road, close to the Dambulla Cave Temple. Front the outside, this one looked great... the price was ok, but they charged me more, I think because I arrived with a driver, than the other guests I've meet there. I looked at the room quickly, it looked ok. When I went back in the room, in the bathroom there was about 17 cockroaches close the the shower drain, right next to the toilet - some alive, some dead! See the pictures I post. Disgusting, dirty! So no toilet or shower for me that evening. Also, on the room, the sheet used as a curtain is see thru, so you cant really changed in private with open lights as the window has a view in the front desk area and the guest lobby/dinner table. The food was ok, the people I met there were very nice, owner ok, but the quality of guesthouse and cleanliness is not worth it. Go somewhere else. Chamara Guest House has great location, that's it. At dinner, we didn't finish some fruits, we also killed some bugs with a papaya, next morning at breakfast, the same piece of papaya was served, still with the bugs. Check what you eat, check where you sleep, put the mosquito net. I don't suggest you stay there. The only good things, that many other guesthouse has, it's the location. Owner friendly - but bargain all prices.
