“Fantastic start with 3 nights in Luxury and great staff”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We (6 adults) started our 2 week holiday here and fell in love with the hotel and staff immediately.
Having expectations high , we weren't disappointed in the slightest. We unanimously declared the food here set the standard and the staff fantastic.....The following 2 nights in Thilanka Kandy were equally great ...Highly recommended !

Room Tip: In Dambulla, rooms 206 / 207 upstairs near the pool ideal .

The hotel is set in wonderful grounds full of wildlife, many fruit trees and paddy fields. It's very peaceful and relaxing and has a superb swimming pool as it's central feature. The pool was the main draw for us as we are travelling with our young son.

Unfortunately the general upkeep, maintenance and hygiene of the rooms really lets it down. On entering our room we found a used ashtray and rubbish in the bin from the previous guest. Not an ideal first impression. On day two I spoke to the management regarding specific cleaning issues in the bathroom. These included the very dirty jacuzzi bath (thick brown smelly sludge around the plug hole and all bubble vents), the large dead bug that was still in the shower post the daily clean and general lack of care and attention to standards that you expect when paying for a hotel of this calibre. The manager was very apologetic, so I was hoping that these issues would be rectified the following day. They weren't (see attached photos).

If management aren't prepared to take action when basic cleaning issues are raised by a paying customer then the long term success of an establishment is doomed. Would I recommend staying here? If cleanliness is important to you then no, absolutely not.

stayed at this hotel with my family & it good place to relax. its chalets are very clean, spacious & has a big bath room. all the chalets are in a very huge mango plantation even when there is no fruits, you find birds, squirrels all around. so you may imaging when there is fruits (in april) .. how chanting will it be ...

you find a nice rectangle shaped pool, but not very big one & the paddy filed next to the pool gives the whole thing a rich greeny & lush look which your eyes will feel so comfortable.

you find both western & local cuisine to dine.. & i should say the food is not great but good. also there is a place to have barbecue dinner & a ground if you want to play cricket, foot ball etc..

the staff is friendly & helpful & good hotel to relax.

So we stayed at this hotel with high expectations - given the price tag for SL in particular, and left pretty underwhelmed.
The main building is nice, and the pool is very, very cool. Likewise the rooms are nice and relatively modern, but the small details really let this place down, and mean that we felt we didn't get value for money, particularly as we could have stayed at some other great looking hotels for only about $20 more in total.
Firstly, as a couple they gave us a 'double bed', but made up of two different mattresses, which is hardly ideal and also pretty nonsensical. It's not really comfortable to sleep that way, and this was a pretty annoying start to the stay. On top of this there is no wifi in the rooms?! which is pretty annoying if you have any work to do, or just want to go on whatsapp or something. Secondly, the buffet/food is pretty underwhelming, thirdly there were many small details that just kept getting overlooked. The AC/fan in the room was too loud/not powerful enough meaning it was either impossible to sleep, or very hot, the TV was tiny, and although we had a bath with jacuzzi, it only had scalding hot water. Plus the curtains were too thin meaning we were woken up by the sunrise at 6am or something each morning.
All in all none of these things were really that important, but together they kind of add up to make you feel that you're not getting what you pay for, particularly as this is at the top end of the price range for SL. It's also disappointing because it really would not take much effort to make this a really good hotel.
6/10 - must try harder!

Room Tip: definitely go to see the elephants at wasaguma national park if you're staying here!

We stayed only one night and got returned soon as my child was not well. Excellent staff and we got a great support from GM - Nishantha as he helped a lot for searching a doctor for us. Thanks and great job Nishantha and team. The hotel is clean and comfortable with big size room. Bathroom is extra large and well equipped with Jacuzzi and other facilities. No door locks for bathroom. Food is average but service is excellent. The prices of Spa is very attractive but we missed the chance due to early departure. This has a huge potential to develop to the next level.

We stayed here for the first two nights of our holiday, and were a little disappointed with the room. Our room was at the front of the hotel and in need of upgrading, however it was a good size room and clean.
Breakfast and evening meals were ok.
Internet only worked in the main reception/dining are.
Nice pool and surrounding area.
Two nights here was enough.
