From the moment I booked The Coconut Orchard the owner, Andrea Hussey, was more than helpful in every way, to ensure our stay would be as comfortable as possible. The villa was beautifully furnished, with all the facilities we expected. The staff who look after the property, Gamini and his daughter, Hiro, were so helpful and friendly. The tuk-tuk driver, Mahesh, was always available to take us wherever and whenever we wanted to leave the villa to go out on day trips or to local restaurants. The relaxed beachfront restaurants of Hikkaduwa were only a 10 min tuk-tuk ride away, and we also had a delicious curry cooked for us in the villa one night by Manori. Andrea even booked a restaurant for my birthday meal before in advance of our arrival in Sri Lanka, and was always available to answer any queries very promptly. Andrea even ordered a beautiful birthday cake as a surprise delivery for me on my birthday! It was wonderful to just relax in the tropical garden and spot the local wildlife, or just lounge in the pool drinking fresh coconut water straight out of the coconut, chilled in advance by Gamini! The only thing I would say is mosquitos are quite a nuisance there, despite our best efforts not to be bitten, although it had rained heavily in our first 2 days which did not help. Also the swimming pool tiles could be a bit slippery underfoot in the pool, but the pool is no more than 5 feet deep so it was never really an issue for us. I would highly recommend this villa to any one staying in Sri Lanka, especially with children. Thank you, Andrea, and your team for a really relaxing holiday!
We have just recently returned from the Coconut Orchard. Firstly I would just like to say what a beautiful villa and surroundings. The villa, Garden and pool are exactly like the pictures. Gamini and Hiro greeted us as we got to the villa with a fresh coconut drink (yummy) just what we needed after traveling. Gamini is so helpful arranging Tuk Tuk's for us to get around. Taking us to the mangroves and to see the turtles etc. I would definitely recommend Gamini to cook. He makes a good curry,BBQ etc.
Lastly many thanks to Andrea,Gamini and Hiro. Can't wait to re-visit 1 week just wasn't long enough.
Our family spent 6 months living in this secluded oasis within the small village of Pinkanda, about 5 to 10 minutes from Hikka. The villa is great and has everything we needed. We spent a lot of time sitting on the terrace watching the stars, full moons, birds and animals, entertaining at the the bar or swimming in the pool. Could not be happier with the staff who have been very kind and helpful, Hiru looking after our kids, Gamini's amazing curries and bbq's, Manjulas nightly watch and transport into town at all hours. Andrea has been a fantastic host and a wealth of local information. I could write on for hours but our expectations have been exceeded and we will look back on our time here with some unbelievable memories. Many thanks to Andrea, Gamini (and his whole family), Hiru, Manjula and Mahesh.
Having never gone the Villa option before (always done Hotels), I now never want to stay in a Hotel again!
I had a fantastic time, the pool is great for lazing in the day and when you get home late, all hot & bothered, quick shower next to pool then enjoy lazing in the pool watching the stars! (no light pollution)!
The grounds are beautiful & full of interesting vegetation and fauna.
Breakfast had me watching the 'chipmunks' and our resident small 'Monitor Lizard' and the amazing birds (too many to mention) go about there business. What a privilege, you won't see that in a Hotel!
The Villa is staffed and you can use or not? I would recommend USE! Gamini will cook you anything you want: Egg & Bacon for Breaky, to fish curries. His salads are fantastic as are his curries, deep fried prawns & chicken. OMG the deep fried prawns are 'really special'!
Hiru is so lovely, but really shy. She does the beds, arranges the flower bowls, picks the leaves from the garden.
Manjula is the 'Nigtwatchman' to ensure our 'safety' I don't think required, but nice to know he's there! I only spotted him 4x in 12 days . . so discrete.
A great base to investigate Galle Forte & Unamatuna with great beach & shops to peruse. ALSO can go on Safari to Yala National Park, although a 2 hour drive, I highly recommend a visit & stay 1-2 nights to make the most of your Trip. Leopard Trails & Cadjan Wild I can recommend as stayed at both.

We are a family of five and we absolutely loved this place. It became our haven after a hot and extremely humid day out. It was a real home away from home.
Gamini, the house manager was absolutely amazing! To us, he was such a valuable resource. He made the holiday so easy and relaxing.
Can't say enough about this place, it was exactly what we were looking for! It was a mini holiday within our holiday. The kids had tons of room to explore and play.
We'll be back, maybe a month earlier though, the humidity was something else. Thank goodness for that awesome pool!
Thank you, Andrea for making our holiday so easy and relaxing!
This was one of our most memorable trips we have taken to date! We generally take a hotel prior to renting a villa to ensure we get a good sense of the surrounding, but this time was different.
As we had not been to Sri Lanka before, we were a little nervous. Andrea, the villa owner, put our minds to rest. She was so professional but yet so easy to talk to as if she was a long time friend.
She walked us through the visa process (even sending a reminder about a week prior to travel about the E-visa), asked what our interests were, sourced the best companies to conduct excursion with and the safest companies that provide dive and fishing trips. She also arranged safe and reliable airport transportation who picks you up from the arrivals hall with a name sign. She also went as far as asking what provisions we needed to get us through the first night and arranged for them to be ready for us when we got there.
Upon arriving to the villa you are greeted by the very professional Mr. Gamini, the Villa manager. He is there daily to ensure you have the best time possible and enjoy the villa to fullest. He will also sort your day out with excursions to ensure you have enough time to see and do everything. If there is any issue with the villa, he will have it fixed in no time. He is also the resident chef for which I highly recommend you use. He will source the ingredients and prepare just about any type of food you wish. Our kids really enjoyed the fresh coconuts and Nutella crepes! His cooking was so good, we only ate out a couple of times our entire stay.
The villa and the grounds are absolutely amazing. Very well appointed with all the comforts of home, which far exceeded our expectations. Gorgeous swimming pool, lush garden full of flowering and fruit trees, A/C in the bedrooms, large beds stocked full of pillows, wifi, and satellite tv... and did I mention an amazing swimming pool to relax in and sip on coconuts all day! Theres even a pizza oven which Gamini will fire up if you fancy pizza night!
Gamini's daughter gives it the Sri Lankan touch by arranging flower art in the water baths daily. She even started teaching my young daughter how to do it! She also takes great care in keeping the villa and grounds clean and tidy. If needed, she will also arrange for laundry to be done.
If you are looking for an amazing villa, tastefully appointed, secluded - but yet only about 10 minutes from the beach by tuk tuk, with a very professional team of staff... This is the villa for you! I can not praise it high enough!
Such an incredible place to stay, we had a fantastic time. I echo other guests comments about Gamini and Hiru, nothing was too much trouble. They achieve the perfect balance of being there when you need but also allowing you privacy. Small things like Gamini cooking our daughter pancakes each morning and making me coffee were very much appreciated! His cooking is also fantastic, a must try.
The villa itself is stunning and very well equipped. It felt like a real sanctuary. Andrea was so helpful both before and during our stay, nothing was too much trouble.
Location is also perfect, very close to Hikkaduwa. We also visited Galle Fort which I'd highly recommend.
I could go on.....we will be back!
