I just got back from my much awaited honeymoon at Aditya. Despite my high expectations from reading its reviews on Tripadvisor, this boutique resort outshone itself in every single area.

First off, I had casually mentioned in an email to the hotel that I was staying at the hotel for my honeymoon. Sure enough, once we checked into our room, a delicious chocolate cake awaited us with the words "Congratulations" written on it. The hotel room was large and elegantly designed and it's clear that plenty of thought has gone into its architecture and interior design. The outdoor bathrooms and plunge pools are exposed to a breathtaking panorama of palm trees and tropical shrubbery filled with birds.

The food here was fantastic. We had a candlelight dinner in front of the swimming pool one evening and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks and food. The breakfasts were sumptuous with freshly baked bread, home-made jams, king coconut water and delicious tropical fruit. For those with ethnic tastebuds, the Sri Lankan food here is just as enjoyable as eating at a local Sri Lankan restaurant.

The hotel staff takes great pride in their property and are always cleaning up or refurnishing the property throughout the day. Their service is top notch and they were always around to serve us without being intrusive. On one occasion where I requested a larger size of rubber slippers and even though they didn't have my size at the hotel, they purchased a new pair from the neighboring town before evening.

The hotel spa offers great massages and my wife and I felt totally pampered by their service. The pool was another wonderful place to relax in the evenings after a day of sightseeing.

The Dutch town Galle is about 20-30 minutes away from this hotel and definitely worth a visit. We visited the fort, dutch church and numerous gem stores in the area.

I've staying in many hotels around the world and I have to admit that when it comes quality of accommodation and service, Aditya is currently 'numero uno' in my books. I felt fully relaxed during our stay at this spectacular honeymoon destination and I look forward to going back here again.

I stayed at the Aditya for 5 nights to attend a friends wedding, What a stunning place. the rooms where fantastic and BIG with my own plunge pool. Combined living & bedroom and a bathroom that could only be described as luxurious.

Serious choice of tea and coffee in the room with biscuits, milk well stocked reasonable mini bar.

Overlooking the sea and pool the view was stunning. Unfortunately when we stayed storms out at sea (unusual for late November) stopped us using the beach so I cannot comment on that element. However 2 Aussies and a Canuck who where on holiday and happened to be surfers disappeared for the day and where raving avbout the surf when they got back.

£5 ride on a Tuk Tuk to the nearest town was well worth it. the hotel is an Oasis of calm until you step outside the secure compound and you have manic drivers and friendly locals all wanting to help you. A good example was local who spent an hour with us to help pick silk and refused point blank a tip. unusual in that part of the world.

Food was simple or very exotic. the menu covered a number of various cuisines. Want a burger or club sandwich no problem. A good curry Thai, Indian or Sri Lanka easy done. Egg, chips and beans off course sir. Plus as much fruit as you could eat! The bar staff where very friendly and are possess all the information you wnat about where to go and not go.

Save the best until last. The staff. Absolutely wonderful. Attentive without being imposing, thoughtful little touches like getting aloe vera from a tree for my burnt bald head!

Will I go back? You betcha ;-)

We are halfway through our stay at the Aditya and just had to write an early review. We are officially on our honeymoon, but still haven't left the hotel after getting married here yesterday.

The short summary is that the Aditya should be considered the best hotel in Sri Lanka and certainly should be a serious candidate for the best boutique hotel in the Asian region.

The longer summary is:

Well let’s start with the building. Although only three years old, the building has been created in sympathy with its surroundings, in a old colonial style that echoes the works of Geoffrey Bawa. High ceilings of the open areas are dotted with lazily swirling fans that make the most of the cool sea breeze coming from the open front of the hotel. The architecture is enhanced by the tasteful use of Sri Lankan antiques, contrasted by colourful photos of Sri Lankan people. The sweep of white walls are occasionally interrupted by splashes of Burnt Orange, adding colour and contrast. The overall effect is to evoke the pleasures of the senses that go hand in hand with the climate, landscape, and culture of ancient Ceylon.

Having the advantage of taking over the entire hotel for a couple of days for our wedding, I was fortunate to be able to see all the rooms on offer. Any of the rooms would be considered grand suites in any other hotel, but here they are merely termed garden view or sea view rooms. Each is unique, although all have Jacuzzi style plunge pools to allow you to cool off in comfort, a bed that would comfortably sleep 4 people, air-conditioning units that would make an Eskimo chilly and for those of you missing the telly, an impressive array of satellite channels (including sport and movies) as well as a DVD and CD library. The unique touches range from ceilings painted with “glow the dark” star scapes, to dual level bedrooms. Sea views mean an uninterrupted view of a deserted beach and azure sea, Garden views mean a private view to your own garden. All of them can be enjoyed on sumptuously cushioned armchairs, on generously sized balconies.

The pool is large enough to provide our tri-athlete friend with a bit of a challenge and the rest of us with somewhere to chill off when the heat drives us from the wide cushioned sun loungers. The bar is close enough to the pool to provide welcome respite from the heat and the bar staff provide light hearted banter along with a dazzling array of cocktails, mock-tails and endless cold beers served in chilled glasses (a very nice touch).

However, where many hotels let themselves down is poorly trained staff, that aren’t able live up to the potential of the surroundings. This is not the case for the Aditya. The management has obviously put a great deal of effort into building and training this team. All aspects of the service are delivered with a high degree of professionalism. Smartly dressed, attentive staff, strike an excellent balance between prompt attentive service and warm hearted openness, that is a reflection of, and a to credit to, the Sri Lankan people. If it is in their power to grant a service, the staff and management immediately and efficiently do what ever is necessary to make guests happy. From re-icing our wedding cake with 40 mins notice (originally made by the Hilton in Colombo, and it was a disaster) to ensuring that our very English friend had his tea the right colour of BOP fannings orange, his toast served with a consistent crisp factor of 8, accompanied by his own pot of marmite. We all enjoyed the sumptuous breakfasts, the legendary burgers at the bar and the an evening menu the continues to delight and surprise even after two weeks. My personal recommendation has to be the Thai green curry, the dhal curry, the rack of lamb, the chocolate brownies, the…… well you get my point !!

I could go on to tell you about the amazing job they made of our wedding, but it would take another couple of pages and would basically boil down to an amazing day, faultless planned and executed (including a smartly dressed elephant to join us for the ceremony). We could not of imagined a better day.

In summary, this is the best hotel in Sri Lanka, we will be returning and so will most of our friends and family. I only hope you have the opportunity to try it out, you won’t be disappointed.

This hotel is fantastic. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea that was incredibly impresive, high vaulted ceilings, acres of space and with a plunge pool on the balcony. It's unfair to describe it as a room, most definitely a large suite.

I believe anyone will struggle not to be impressed with the hotel and the service. Very much 5* and great attention to detail. As it's a small hotel they are always aware of any dietary requirements or needs and never once needed reminding, no matter how many staff we spoke to.

We also took a look at the other available rooms and all were equally impressive, even the garden rooms had a fantastic setting for their outside space.

Both the service and food at the hotel were impeccable. The food was also reasonably priced.

In terms of things to do, something to note is that the sea is regarded to be unsafe for a lot of the year, and was very rough while we were there. The beach is pretty much deserted so if you did want to lie there you would find privacy and not be disturbed. Any locals, as we found throughout Sri Lanka, were extremely friendly.

The pool itself is of course a great place to sit and relax with everything you need. The service allows for pretty much anything you require.

We took one excusion out which the hotel reserved for us. It cost about £50 for a driver for the day who took us to a turtle sanctuary, on a small boat through the mangroves and for a trip on a glass bottomed boat to see the reef up the coast. It's well worth doing this as you get to fit a lot into the day, all was excellent with possibly the exception of the glass bottomed boat. These are pretty scruffy boats on a beach that take you over a not very impressive shallow reef to see the fish. Probably worth going to give them some business but I'm not sure they don't further damage what's left of the reef. In hindsite I'd rather go there and do some snorkelling.

There are also numerous furniture and antique shops along the main road. We found the largest one to actually offer by far the best value for a couple of pieces, witha smaller one asking for about 4x the price for a similar item.

Regarding the Tsunami it looks like most is now repaired, but you see a lot of the consequences up and down the coast, and hear stories from all the drivers.

Ref. eating out, we ate at the hotel once, great but quiet while we were there, once at the Lighthouse hotel, also good value, busier and a nice sea-front setting (10m drive), and once at "Refresh" recommended as a good local restaurant (10m drive). This was the only disappointment as it worked out most expensive and felt a bit like a tourist trap.

Galle itself is a short drive away, but I would recommend getting cars everywhere once the Tuk Tuk novelty wears off as it's much faster.

Travelling fom the airport took less han two hours when we arrived as it was late at night. Going back during the day took over 4 hours so if possible I'd plan to travel at quieter times. The hotel arranged our driver from the airport, and the rate was very good as we confirmed on here with some Sri Lanka residents.

In summary, not just a hotel I'd recommend, but one I would definitely make the effort to stay at next time we're in Sri Lanka.

We loved Aditya. We visit Sri Lanka regularly and this is such a great addition to Sri Lanka's beautiful array of boutique properties. The design of the place on just an acre of land is stunning and an extremely clever use of space. We were looked after in typically superb Sri Lankan style. We were travelling with parents whom are residents of Sri Lanka and they equally loved the hotel. The decor was slick and our beautiful, huge room overlooked the pool. We particularly loved the bathroom that carried through to the terrace where there was a superb plunge pool. The terrace being a great yoga space. Downstairs the communal areas were sociable yet also private at the same time - very well arranged.

Room service is great, and the massage service was exceptionally good.

The hotel is in a great location, so easy to pop into Galle for shopping / afternoon tea (at the Galle Fort or the Amangalla) or to explore (the Dutch Church and a wander around town to the ramparts). It is also easy to reach from Colombo by car.

In summary, absolutely superb. We would very happily return for a romantic break or with family and friends.

We arrived at this hotel following a hectic trip round Sri Lanka, during which time we had stayed at some fantastic hotels, and we were looking forward to six days of relaxing. We were so impressed with everything this hotel has to offer. We stayed in Surya - the two storey room. It was decorated beautifully, with such attention to detail. The balcony downstairs was lovely and we were only 20 feet from the sea! The upstairs had a huge bed with two picture windows that meant you had a view of the ocean on waking, and patio doors leading onto the terrace and plunge pool.
The staff were so friendly, nothing was ever too much trouble. We had a cookery lesson, which was really good (and we got to eat the results!), and the chef Nimal went out of his way to ensure we understood everything.

All the food was presented really well, and very tasty! And the fact you can eat wherever you want to is a brilliant idea. We had one meal on the beach, it was simply stunning.
On leaving we were presented with a little ceramic plate to remind us of our stay- I thought this was lovely.
All in all I would stay that this hotel is absolutely perfect.
