“a beautiful boutique hotel with fantastic service, pool and food”
Reviewed 31 January 2010

This was our second stay at Aditya and we were delighted to find that it was just as good this time. It is a small, very luxurious place, with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. There are only about 12 rooms which are all suites and are beautifully furnished. Last time in 2007 we stayed in a garden suite which was huge and had a fab outside/ inside bathroom and a private terrace and plunge pool. Our daughter, who was 9 at the time, loved it and particularly liked the star projections on the ceiling at night. This time we had a sea view suite which was stunning. It had a big, private terrace with plunge pool and views of the palm fringed beach and sea. The hotel is directly on a quiet stretch of beach and has lovely gardens with hammocks and seating areas dotted around. The pool is very large, well maintained and the area around it has lots of loungers and a great wooden canopied day bed in which to relax. The design of the building flows very well, and reminded us of a modern take on a bawa building. The restaurant is at the centre, overlooking the palm trees and beach, and is a light, airy space leading directly onto the gardens. The food is very good, the breakfasts amazing and the kitchen catered to all tastes from delicious sri lankan dishes, lots of fish, to more westernised food which our daughter preferred. Meals could also be taken at any time, which made for a very relaxing stay. The staff were exceptionally nice and looked after us very well on both visits. The location is great because its on a stretch of beach which has not been spoilt so there is no hastle when going for a walk and the view is picturesque (but only a short tuk tuk ride away is Hikkaduwa and Galle Fort). We only ever paddled in the sea because it was a bit rough, but the pool was so nice and never too busy, that was no hardship! We definately hope to return.

If you don't want to think about anything else in the world except how lucky you are to be alive, then visit Aditya. This is a boutique hotel experience which will rid you of any stress, worries or troubles - a real hospital for the soul!

We arrived here after an equally wonderful, although completely different, experience at the Victoria Golf Resort near Kandy and what a brilliant way to finish a holiday. It would actually be a brilliant way to start too! The rooms are huge and beautifully appointed with private spas on every balcony. There is a peace here which immediately engulfs you as you step over the threshold of the resort after your typically hectic taxi ride!

A garland of frangipanis is your first gift, a refreshing fruit cocktail your second. From there on it's one surprise after another - the room, the FOOD (!!!!), the staff! Having the flexibility to eat anything at any time of the day or night makes for a wonderfully lazy and timeless stay. We went to Aditya with every intention of site seeing but we ended up only going into Galle (very interesting and lovely) once and spending the rest of the stay contemplating our 2 largest problems - do we relax by the ocean, or the pool - and which cocktail shall we try?

I cannot talk highly enough about the staff - the people of Sri Lanka are the gentlest and kindest people I've met. Nothing was too much trouble here - dinner by the pool one night, dinner set up on the beach another night - it's all a pleasure for them to organise. The staff were attentive, but you never felt they were hovering - they just seemed to appear miraculously when you needed them.

There are only 12 suites at Aditya, so if you are looking for a party hotel this is not for you. It is romantic, relaxed and so peaceful. The rooms were all booked when we were there but we hardly saw another soul for 3 days!

We will definitely go back - and we can't wait to do so!

We had a wonderful 4-5 days at Aditya. We stayed in the Surya suite, which is a duplex suite with the bedroom and an enormous sun terrace upstairs and a sitting area, bathroom and smaller (but still large by most standards) balcony downstairs. The sun terrace has unbeatable sea and sunset views and a huuuuge plunge pool. The plunge pools are unheated but very soon warm up in the sun and are lovely to laze around in with a nice cold beer.

We arrived early morning - about 8am - and we given breakfast on arrival and a courtesy room for a couple of hours until our room was ready for us which was a welcome touch after an overnight flight and a 3-4 hour car transfer from Colombo to the hotel.

The reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff were very courteous and very keen to look after us throughout our stay. The service may not be as slick as a city hotel, but that didn't bother us at all. The food is very good too.

Aditya is just off the main road to Galle - Galle about 15 minutes away in a 3-wheeler/tuk-tuk, and is worth a visit. There isn't loads and loads to do at Aditya itself, but it's the perfect place for a relaxing break in an amazing location.

Aditya was a perplexing hotel.

A really fabulous location and quite private, the hotel and facilities are modern, but are of that could be anywhere on the beach design.

We had a spa room with a plunge pool that followed the "could be anywhere design".

The food was OK and the service good, but getting a bill could could take a while.

The worst thing was that there were mossies in abundance. No mossie nets and ceiling fans meant you had to have the AC on. Unfortunately the bathroom is open to the elements - so if you opened the bathroom door during the night it was mossie central!

Overall, I left feeling the place needed to be made over to provide a more contemporary Sril Lankan feel and every room needs a celing fan and mossie net.

Thanks for the favourable comments regarding the location, facilties, etc.
The decor at Aditya is not entirely contemporary Sri Lankan because then it would be make it one more 'anywhere along the beach' hotel.

If one takes the trouble to look with awareness one will notice that we have maintained and utilized plenty of aspects of traditional Sri Lankan culture from much of he furniture and decorative objects to the pictures of smiling Sri Lankan faces on all our walls.

While mosquitoes are ever present in most parts of Sri Lanka we do our best to minimize the problem. Some of the anti-mosquito measures we take include seeing that our garden, etc is kept completely clean, eliminating breeding grounds along the seashore, the use of anti-mosquito vaporizer devices in the rooms and mosquito mats in common areas. Mosquito repellent is also available on request. Two of our rooms downstairs have low ceilings and which have no fans. All other rooms have fans.

Thank you very much

We stayed here 5 nights and had an amazing time. Staff were really friendly, especially the pool team. The food is good and quite varied, and even though the hotel was quite full there is so much space that it never feels that way. its well worth spending the extra on the Ocean Front rooms - the bathrooms are huge and the plunge pool, whilst cool, is great for sundowners! To go out Galle is a much better bet than Hikkaduwa.

We were so happy to have managed to stay in this place even though it was peak season then. We didn't book a hotel when we arrived that day and thankfully they had a check out!

When we arrived we were greeted with the usual warmth and fruit drink etc. We enjoyed our time basked in the sun by the pool and also laid on the beach. (Tip - in the afternoon the sand can get sooo hot that you have to wear slippers in order to get back to the resort, otherwise you will soo burn your soles!)

But we found this place to be soo charming and at the same luxurious. It is a small but wonderful boutique resort.

The architecture was tasteful and will appeal to everyone tastes. Service here was also very good that we just couldn't complain. Especially the free wifi everywhere you go!

The food here were so delightful that we ate to our heart's content. What really impressed us was the size of our room!! It was incredibly big that you're very spoilt for space! The toilet and shower and bath were located outdoors that it was different but not that you'll be worried for privacy.

We really loved this place and is still in one of our top places to stay. Because this place can only accommodate a number of people, it made the setting personal and homely which most big hotels lack.

Would definitely go back here again!!!!!

We stayed one night in this hotel in November.

We had the Surya suite. The suite is massive and set on 2 floors.

On the ground floor you have the living room and the bathroom and the the frist floor the bedroom in mezzanine and a big terrace with a jacuzzi.

This is a proper luxurious boutique hotel with great style and excellent service.

We really enjoyed the amazing view on the ocean.

The restaurant offers top quality food.

I really recommend this hotel to couple looking for a romantic hideway.
