“Good for back packers”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

This is not an family place. Good for singles probably & food is average. Rooms are basic. Only good thing about hotel is small & not much disturbance.
This is a small rest house type place. Good for old Hikkaduwa travelers, as usual people are nice. place is expensive for what is been offer.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you didn't find Drifters a suitable place for your family holiday. We have many families, including repeat guests, who find Drifters great for families, particularly because of our pool and our focus on cleanliness (both of rooms and pool), attentive staff and quiet atmosphere at nights.

In Drifters, appeared casually, having already arrived to Hikkaduva, to us advised this hotel. At first lived in standard number (number small, pure). But there were vacant rooms of deluxe, we moved to a vacant room. Excellent number overlooking the ocean. Number spacious and pure. Breakfasts in hotel the tasty.
Remained in hotel for a dinner, everything is very tasty, it was pleasant. Hotel pure and house. Staff of hotel with pleasure is ready to help. The Internet of wi fi works well. Thanks a lot for the help and attention to the owner of Lalith. If there are any difficulties or you need to organize something, it will be able to help you. Hired through it a moped and a transfer.
The hotel is on the 1st line on a beach for surfing. Directly near hotel, there is a school for Reef End surf. Excellent guys, I recommend.
In Hikkaduva tourism just develops therefore good hotels can be counted on fingers and Drifters enters into this number. Hotel the price = quality who seeks to hold the level and attention and care to the clients. Let's surely return to this hotel. Thank you for amazing holidays!

Room Tip: deluxe room Excellent, the only thing to the right of hotel is bar restaurant, happens is audible mu...

Drifters was recommended by a friend and we read all the reviews but they didn't come close to how fantastic the hotel, setting, staff and food actually were. We were travelling off season with two teenage boys and I have to say it was great for them to be able to walk straight in to the sea from the breakfast table and surf or body board. We would recommend that you eat at Drifters as we found this to be amazing, especially the seafood (particularly the jumbo king prawns). We also booked a 3 day tour with Lalith's minibus and driver which was defiantly the way to go as the local knowledge saved us time and money.
Overall we think that this place is a must if you want get away from the European all inclusive style of holiday.

not my english :)! we find it on tripadvisor, and we loved it. we enquired by email, and we opted for the 2 best rooms (ocean view), fantastic, all the night with the soud of the ocean under the bed!! the sea in front of the hotel is ok, and if you want the best place for swin in the waves is 40 mt on the left, without a stone, only sand!. breakfast is very various, srilankan, western, porrige, rotti (very good, sweet or salt)., lunch and dinner, are also ggod, and you can ask to Lalith, (great), to averything, we opted one night for the grilled crabs and another for the jumbo prowns.....(you can eat with your feet in the sand. the pool is not big but clean and with a perfect temperature, nice to have relax after lunch or before dinner. we have traveled with a 4 days tour from the airport directly enquired with Lalith by email, and the driver Arauind, was very prudent and a very kind person, that stopped to by for us wather and bananas all time! ask to Lalith for the tours. one day raining we have been a nice half day tour in Galle. we raccomand this hotel for everyone!

Room Tip: if you don't want have a cheapest holyday, choise the ocean view room.

We stayed here for a night during our trip to Sri Lanka in October. It is a beach front hotel located in Hikkadua on Galle Road. Our tour operator booked the hotel, so we are NOT aware of the per night rates. We checked in at 7 PM and checked out at 9 AM the next morning.

This is a two storey hotel with 15 to 18 rooms with two beach facing rooms. It also has a swimming pool in the center of the hotel. Most of the rooms are around the pool.

We stayed in one of the beach facing rooms in the first floor. We got an upgrade as the earlier occupants checked out in the evening. The room was spacious with a balcony. The balcony had couple of chairs where you can sit and watch the waves. The AC was decent and the bathroom was clean. It had a very nice ambiance and we enjoyed staying there. For complimentary breakfast we had bread with potato curry and coconut sambol, omelet, orange juice and tea.

Room Tip: Try for the beach facing room if you're staying longer. You will enjoy that.

We we're lucky to get this hotel, we have stayed in a few hotels over Sri Lanka and this one was by far the best. The owner is very accommodating and friendly and the staff equally so. The restaurant had good food and drinks was always cold. It also runs onto the sand and its nice sitting and relax with a awesome beach and food and drink with your feed in the sand. Will go back any day and would recommend it to anybody!!

Room Tip: AC is a must in Sri Lanka. Take a room with AC in!!

Located on a nice area of the beach and has a nice pool to cool off in. But, the room was small with damp smelling towels. The other restaurants on the beach have music and lighting.. Drifters lacks this and as a result lacks atmosphere. Food was nice, but restaurant had filthy table clothes so didn't eat there much.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate constructive criticism and will review the matters you raised. We buy new linens (table cloths, towels etc) for the hotel every year before the start of the season, as well as doing repairs and improvement works and repainting. This year we will be closing in September to carry out this work, so I am sorry that as you were one of our last guests for the year, that some things were not up to our usual standard. Our table cloths are laundered every two days, and we have several sets that we rotate, but unfortunately by the end of a year's use, although clean, they can be stained (curry is particularly bad for staining). Of course this is no excuse, so apologies are due here, and I will immediately inspect the linens to discard any bad ones before our new ones come in October.
On the issue of music in the restaurant, we have had many guests who ask for no music at Drifters and who prefer to listen to the sound of the waves. We have many families stay with us with children sleeping at an early hour, so they like a quiet and peaceful environment. Our focus in the restaurant is to provide good affordable food for our guests, rather than be part of the Hikkaduwa nightlife scene. We can't be everything to all people and there are many nearby bars, restaurants and party places for people looking for music and a crowd. Instead of competing with them, our aim is to provide a quiet haven close to but also away from the action, which most guests seem to appreciate (especially during peak season, when all the bars are in full swing and at full volume!).
